I have brand new Inspiron 1520.
Battery fully charged, when I unplug the charger from the wall, but let the plug in the Inspiron for a while (let's say a night), when I startup my computer, I get the message "The AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adapter or higher for best system operation" (needless to say that the power adapter IS a Dell 90W...).
Unplugging and replugging the adapter solves the problem.
I have the same message under Windows when I unplug the adapter from the wall, leaving the plug on the computer side while the commuter is running (to go from one room to another for eg.)
I have contacted Dell support, they asked me to reflash the Bios (already done) then, they sent me an new power adapter : same problem... now they are talking about a mainboard replacement !
While Googling for a solution I've seen this is a very common and long term issue on Dell computers.
Are there any people around here that had the same issue and managed to have Dell correct it ?
I have an Dell E1505 laptop computer on which I purchased an extended warranty. Recently the amber battery light has begun blinking. I was informed by a Dell customer resolution representative that the battery needs to be replaced and it is not included in the extended warranty. Neither the representative (nor the two representatives I spoke to before this issue was sent to the escalation department) could show me where the extended warranty excludes batteries. He read a battery warranty paragraph that states that the battery has a 1 year limited warranty and stated that this implies exclusion from the extended warranty. Since all Dell hardware has only a 1 year warranty and is subsequently covered by the extended warranty, why would the customer reasonably be expected to assume that the battery would not be covered by the extended warranty given that there is no express exclusion clause in the extended warranty. The representative could (or would) not give me the phone number for his supervisor and told me that my only recourse was to contact the Dell Legal Department however he could give me no phone number for the legal department either. Is this an example of Dell's deteriorating customer service?
The battery on my Dell Inspiron E1505 will not charge. I have the AC power plugged in, and the light on the adapter works and it keeps my computer running, it just won't charge the battery. My warranty has expired on my laptop as it is just over 18 months old. The adapter is relatively new compared though-- only about 6 months.
In the three sets of lights on the computer, the last one that lets you know if it is charged does not light up. When I hover over the battery meter it says: "5% available (plugged in, not charging)" and when I reboot a message pops up saying that I need to attach a 65W-ac adaptor- but that is what is plugged into it. I have already tried taking out the battery and putting it back in, but it does nothing.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 and it's battery is already giving end of life signals. The purchase date is September 20 2007. I have a three year NBD on this machine. What options do I have?
Let me add about my experience with this laptop... The best backup I have gotten from it since day 1 is less than 1 hour. It's now down to 10-15 minutes. The laptop gets hot very quickly and typing on it becomes a pain in the ass.
I am currently in India and a new battery is going to cost me more than 200 USD as per the Dell representative. That is a lot of money for a battery that has a bad reputation as per the Dell customers on Dell's own website:
I have been told there is some free software to totally drain your pc battery and this might solve the "replace" battery pop up. Where can one get this software?
i am using my normal ac adapter y is it sayin that the adapter cannot be determined?
frustrated caz it was workin earlier an nothing has changed no binding of breakin of pins... it would realli suck if this requires changin somethin because my warranty jus expired a month ago. is this a frequent problem with dell hardware? is there a reason y this happens?
AC power adapter type can not be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge? I am at school and need to take my laptop places, however it is hard to do this with a dead battery. I have an Inspiron 1501 and have had NOTHING but problems with it. My screen constantly goes blue and I have gone through 2 batteries already. Then when I call, I sit on customer service for about 2 hours and get transferred to China and India and they can not even understand me. I am so frustrated!
I bought a Dell Battery for my XPS M140 because the one i got with my new computer had a 10 month shelf life! So on the 30th of June 2008 I made the purchase. I also purchased the next day delivery option which did not help at all. I went on vacation on the 4th of July 2008 to stay overseas. I informed my neighbor that a package might show up and my mother in law so they could keep an eye out. After I got back which was more then 21 days since I made the order Dell told me "too bad you didn't call before your 21 days expired from the day you ordered the battery, now we can't help you." We have exhausted every means of resources we know to get us to a manager that can understand our problem but no one in India can transfer us to the US or to anyone that can help. We are currently asking to speak to the Legal department but every time they transfer me it says "extension 0000 does not exist." Furthermore after the 3rd time that happened I asked specifically for the number not to be transferred but once again "extension 0000 does not exist" happened again. I want to speak to someone that can help me get to a solution. Does anybody here have their legal department number or any info that could help me? You can contact me at apliessi@gmail.com Thank you
The Battery died on my Dell xps m1210. I have used the battery function less than six hours since I purchased the lap top. I am told that I have to buy a new battery for over three hundred dollars.
I am six months past the warranty however it is clear that I received a defective battery and the cost of replacing that defective battery is being downloaded onto me. Dell makes a good product and has a good reputation for reliability so I am very surprised that they don't see the obvious. What should I do please?
Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 that's about a year old. The power adaptor is plugged in but the battery icon says I only have 7% because the adaptor is recognised but not charging. The message says "plugged in, not charging". What is wrong and how do I fix this??
Is it the battery or the AC Adaptor - or worse? Dell Inspiron 1505 battery shows 100% charge but unplug the AC Adaptor and it dies instantly. Won't reboot on battery alone.
Have tried a different adaptor (both are Dell), but since battery says it's at 100%, that doesn't change. Of course I'm 2 months past the 1 yr warranty... but it's the uber-expensive 85 WHr 9-Cell Smart Lithium-Ion Primary Battery for Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptops. I'm not really wanting to spend $300 to replace the damn battery when it's only 14 months old.
can you modify battery policy for life of product, i want 2 purchase from you but just can't bring myself to replace my battery every 18months. I have had IBm thinkpad for over 5 years and using same battery.
Your cost for battery incomparable to my cost for machine which I am apt to update every 2 years. You need more research on customer feedback.
