AC adapters not working for Inspiron 1525
Anyone else having ac adapter/charger problems with Inspiron 1525? Mine quit working altogether last Thursday night, I was sent a new one because my laptop is still under warranty. The new one was fabulous... for the first 24 hours. I just unplugged the charger to move to another location in my house, plugged the adapter back in, and the green light will not come on. I tried several outlets, and nothing. What causes this, and what can I do to fix it? My computer is not that old, I just got it about 4 or 5 months ago.

Inappropriate?I have that exact problem. The Adapter makes a beeping noise too. It happened to me about 4 months ago, they sent me a new charger, now the same thing only now i'm out of warranty so my guess is that they wont give a shit and charge me a fortune. mines a 1520 that's the only difference.

Inappropriate?Yep me too! I have ordered too replacements. The first one didn't work. The second one worked for a few days and then stopped without warning!!

Inappropriate?I had this same problem with my Dell XPS M1210 Laptop when it was under warranty. I called Dell support and they sent me a replacement power supply. That didn't fix it, and then they sent me a replacement battery. That didn't work, and then they sent a technician that replaced the motherboard. Then it worked fine for a few months. Now the problem started up once again, but now it is out of warranty. In researching this issue online, it seems that thousands have people have had this issue with several different Dell models, and for most it was the power supply. However, I'm afraid to pay the money to replace it because it may not be the root cause. I might just have to buy another laptop, and it definitely will not be a Dell.
I’m a disatisfied Dell customer

Inappropriate?OK ..this could be caused from a wire that has come loose inside your ac adapter port and would need to be soldered back together.. even when they fix this there is NO guarantee on it working or how long it will stay working once it has been fixed! I had the same problems with my computer
and these are the results from the tech...they quoted me a price of $275.00 to fix +the $50.00 (just to look at it)! The question is ....Is it worth that for the risk? The cause I assume is from moving the computer around while the charger is plugged in ....I hope you can use this as a possibility to research Good Luck!

Inappropriate? My daughter's power adapter for her four month old Inspiron 5125 won't charge the battery. They say they won't repair the power supply because "it isn't covered under warranty". We may get it fixed if its not too expensive. We've bought five Dells in six years, but the next laptop (or any PC) definitely won't be a Dell - this is our second Dell laptop with a power port problem.
I’m irritated and bummed.

Rochelle - you might want to look at the comment I just left. Perhaps it will help. -
Inappropriate?oh yea im never ever buying a dell again, no support on this issue at all another charger isnt the answer and dells response is simply non existent.
I’m ticked

I hope my comment helped. Solutions ARE possible, though not as straightforward as they ought to be. -
Inappropriate?Well, mostly. I did finally get someone at Dell's Customer Resolution Center to agree that a six month old PC ought not to have this problem, and send a tech to the house to replace the motherboard. Unfortunately, it was only good for two weeks before the PC ceased recogizing that the power jack was plugged in (before, it did but didn't take the power), and (maybe, hard to tell) begin to overheat. I called the guy who spoke to me (who was surprisingly helpful), and he arranged for the laptop to be sent back to them, their cost, to be repaired. So, I'm not delighted (as I was after the first repair), but they do seem to be trying.
I asked the tech, while he was here, if they have problems with that power jack a lot, and he said they did. Apparently, its a 'least cost' connector. Doesn't do much for Dell's image, though. I'd gladly pay more for a sturdier machine.
I’m guardedly happy

Inappropriate?i have the same problem! I cheacked the internet and one was very helpfull,i have a inspiron 1525 so i looked it up and there was one that said to take out the battery in the back of the pc.Idid and restarted the computer without the battery in,when my screen had come up i put back the battery and in a couple of minutes it started to work. You could use this method if the battery icon on the computer says its plugged in but not charging. Tell me if this method helps!
I’m Kinda helpfull!

Inappropriate?Same problem - I've probably got 2 weeks of actual run time on this computer that is 18 months old. I did my best to get Dell to back up their product but got the heave ho.
Only difference from what many of you have reported, is that I left it plugged in for several days without shutting it down. We did this at work all the time so I don't think that makes a difference.
I may try calling support one more time - if they don't help, knowing that this is a quality issue from the get go - I'll never buy Dell again.
-
Inappropriate?I too have had the same problem with my adapter, perhaps this should be a recall issue. I have a friend that runs a local newspaper, she is always looking for scam stories, this may just happen if Dell does not assume responsibility for a poor product. They say negative advertising spreads faster then positive
I’m amused

Inappropriate? Will buying a cheaper no name brand prove to be a better product?
-
My guess is, no, because Dells are pretty cheap now. If they're cutting corners to make that price (as I assume they are, based on the fact that the power connector is a recurring problem), what corners are the makers of even cheaper laptops cutting? I used a Thinkpad while I worked at IBM, and that was a solid machine. Unquestionably more expensive than the Dell, but to my mind well worth it. When the time comes to replace the Dell laptop, that's what we'll probably get. -
Inappropriate?I am pretty new to this, I hope someone can still help. I am having the exact same problem. I plug the AC adapter in and the green light doesn't come on. At first, it would work for a couple of days and then not and then it would work again. About 2 weeks ago, it stopped completely! I thought maybe the light was out and it would still charge it, boyy, I was wrong! I thought about calling dell, b.c it is not even a year old and I have a warrenty, so do you think they would send me another?! Or do I have to buy one online, b.c I found one for $25 and the description says brand-new and to buy it off of dell's website its about $65 :( Please help me.
I’m frustrated and a freshman in college!

Inappropriate?I have an inspiron 6000, and have the same issue. My power adapter has given me this problem in the past a few times, but it usually starts working fine again after fiddling with plugging it in to the wall and laptop in different sequences. Once the light is on and I've got power flowing, the adapter works as expected. Tonight it just doesn't want to work, though.
My warranty has been up for a few years according to dell's website, so no chance of help there.
