Another Dead XPS M1730!
My XPS M1730 died suddenly on 10/16. It was a replacement for an XPS 1710 that suffered video adapter meltdown after 2 years of service. The replacement only lasted 9 months. I purchased the original system with a 4 year, Next business day warranty. My original experience with customer service was fantastic, they replaced the entire system within 3 days, but now it has been 5 days with no resolution on the horizon, they say that the faulty part on the motherboard is backordered, and can only estimate when they will have it back in stock. So what exactly is next business day service? All I get is "im sorry, but that is all we can do". I posted to the unresolved board on the dell site, and a day later i get a response saying they have upgraded the level of my complaint to level 4 and i should expect to hear from them in 4 days. I was actually waiting on an alienware m17x to ship when my 1730 died, but i have since cancelled the order.
I will not purchase from Dell again. I was a loyal customer for over 15 years, and within the span of one weekend they have turned me away. I will not recommend a dell to anyone ever again.

Inappropriate? They are going to send a service rep to replace the motherboard, if the part ever comes in.
I’m frustrated

When they come to replace the motherboard you may end up have HD/OS problems so you will want to disable the antivirus before the computer is take apart and then restart afterward- Also be prepared to reset computer to factory settings- so back up your computer- (Im not an expert just speaking from experience) -

Heatsink/Fan/keyboard, pwr supply replaced September 2009
two weeks later problems started again
Sent computer to Depot two weeks ago got it back yesterday-
keyboard/motherboard/fan/video card replaced
Computer is overheating/ the fan is running loud and when it is on, the computer does not respond/ keyboard has two keys that are hanging on by thread and it hangs for nearly 5 minutes on start up (this is with SSDs)
I was on the phone literally from 12:25 to 430 yesterday tryin to get DELL to resolve this problem.
From what I understand Dell is not making the XPS 1730 system anymore (as of July 2009)
The Alienware M17 is the exchange model now for the XPS 1730
this computer was reviewed by cnet in july 2009 and received good reviews but many of the customer reviews are very bad.
I demanded a refund!! we shall see what happens.I was told that REC tech would call today (Im not holding my breath)
The G key just completely broke off.
I’m MAD
