Avoid buying software from Dell

In November of 2008 I contacted Dell System Support because I had purchased an Inspiron 1721 Laptop computer using Vista Software. Since, I'm self employed doing taxes I need a good laptop well the Vista was not compatible with my software. Rather than sending the computer back I contacted customer support and asked for their help in converting the Vista software over to XP. The customer service representative told me I would have to purchase Microsoft XP Pro the cost was $350.00. Once I received the software I attempted to convert my system over to XP. It failed. I called Dell Product Support and talked to a different technician who told me that since I was using the home based version of Vista that it was not possible to convert my Inspiron 1721 Computer to XP. So, I packed up the software (mind you no mention was made that I needed a return authorization at that time) and sent it back asking for a refund minus the usual 15% restocking charge. This was done by December 10th which I thought was within the 21 day return period. Well I kept on reviewing my bill every month and never saw a credit on my account, nor did they return the software to me. Could it be they returned it to Microsoft and collected the money and decided to screw me on a technicality? In California this is considered theft, the amount involved is grand theft. I think we are going to have to use a different company since Dell is a crook. I talked to a Millie Madaan, based on the spelling of the name she must be based in Bombay India, I guess Dell should feel insulated because their customer service department is 15,000 miles away from the problem. Not only do they give bad advice, and steal software but they hire Non-Americans to front for them!!!!!!!!! I hope someone out there reads this message and realizes that Dell is a crook and they should think twice before buying a product because their customer support is f##ked up!

sad I’m sad and frustrated.

They do this all the time.. Bought a XPS m1730 and paid for 7200 RPM drives.. Got 5400RPM drives.. Said they could do nothing.. This was March 2008 in Canada.. Finally, they sent me 3 coupon codes.. 1 for 100$ and 2 for 200$ each.. Used the 100 and 200 coupon.. Tried to use the last 200 on a Logitech steering wheel for my sons B-Day in Aug 2008.. Ordered the item in April.. June comes around and its STILL backordered.. Was assured the coupon code would be re-imbursed to me if i canceled since it was a 2 month backorder, they said the item probably isn't available from Dell anymore..

Cancelled order and was told coupon code, once expired, couldn't be re-issued.. Well, they got my cold hard cash for their mistake and now they tell me they can't issue out a new coupon code for an item that I ordered and they couldn't deliver on?? I legally paid for that coupon code in a way.. Why should the end user be the one screwed on this.. After fighting with them for 2 months, I gave up.. Now, as of may 3rd, my battery dies 1 week out of the 1 yr warranty and now they want me to buy a new one despite a LOT of people having battery issues with the XPS line.. I want my money back or small claims it is.. They stole 200$ from me and customer care has this on record.. They still say "They cannot issue a new coupon code after expiration" despite the fact I was assured they would as the item I bought with it wasn't available... haha.. I will never deal with Dell again, after 4 machines, their service now sucks.. Even XPS customer service is in India.. Thought XPS users were supposed to have Canadian Priority Support.. Oh wait.. Thats for technical support only, and they can only help ya get to the desktop in Windows.. When my vid cards started to overheat from loose screws after a 3 month old build, it took 3 weeks before someone told me to send it back after saying there was nothing wrong with it beforehand... :) Fixed it myself with new thermal paste and tightened the screws.. My 6 year old Toshiba's battery is still good, why does my 3500$ laptops battery die 1 week after warranty!?
