Inappropriate?yep - I agree. My son's battery in his Inspiron e1505 no longer holds a charge. The system worked great for about the first 9 months he had it. I bought it as his HS graduation gift. But after about 9 months (and after replacing the LCD), the battery took a drastic reduction in its ability to hold a charge. It finally just crapped out altogether. Problem is I don't want to drop $180 for a new Dell battery, since I think the original should have lasted longer. Not sure what to do. It runs only off AC (and better if the battery is not in it).
Just finally resolved a bigger problem that has been bugging me for several months. The thing just stopped working one day. A very ong story short -- involving contacting Dell and finally found the answer on the How To Geek support forum -- I to go to the Dell site and basically "re-set" to the factory default settings (can do that by hitting f8 at startup and going thru some steps). It basically wipes the disk clean but at least it seems to be working. Now if I can just solve the battery issue without spending a bunch of dollars.
My daughter is graduating in a few months and am looking for a laptop for her. Don't think I will be looking at Dell. They have fallen a long way in quality.

Inappropriate?I got a Dell Inspiron 1525 for my wife. It was used when I bought it but only 4 months old. It has been used less than year and the battery will not charge, period. It will only run on AC and since there are many power outages here windows does not have a chance to shut down correctly. I am concerned the whole thing will just crash one day soon. Any suggestions?

Many have this issue any consumer advocates out here--help us spreads the word .
This is a helpful post from a tech forum. I've researched and found others think this is the root cause of this common frustrating problem.
I've found many, many loyal Dell customers online currently dealing with this "AC adaptor/battery not charging" 'design flaw' in Dell laptops. I finally found the answer I'd suspected all along:
The cause is a faulty adapter 'design flaw' Dell should take responsibility for!
When Dell knew of the problem they should have notified all customers and offered a recall or at least a permanent solution. But it seems to me instead, Dell just sits on a large stock of those faulty adapters and is handing them out to anyone within warranty. When your laptop warranty runs out you're forced to by the correct (90W or higher) sold by 'Dell'. And that's only if you catch the problem before it fries your motherboard.
Here's why the AC Adapters / Motherboards for a range of DELL Laptops keep dying on so many good customers:
The design of the hardware circuitry for identification of the DELL AC Adapter is seriously flawed. The root cause is the use of an UNSHIELDED cable between the controller chip on the Mother board and the ID chip pin in the AC adapter.
This unshielded lead acts as an ANTENNA and easily picks up electromagnetic pollution going straight to the chip circuitry. The hardware circuitry is not hardened to deal with electromagnetic fields.
Consequently this energy is dissipated in the chips on each end of the lead ruining either one chip or both chips if the electromagnetic spike was powerful enough.
So use warranty to the max, this is a serious design fault. If outside warranty consider using a shielded lead or try to stay away from strong electromagnetic fields / switching.
I honestly believe Dell was fully aware of the problem when they sent me a faulty adapter for the $998.00 laptop I purchased. But Dell will lose in the end as my family will no longer buy from them.
Here's the full story of the Dell Antenna that many customers are slowly becoming aware of:

Inappropriate? There can be 3 problems with this mini so don't be a n00b and hear me out. Ac adapter (the brick or power plug) , mobo, or battery. Here is how you find the issue. First reseat the power cord from the brick ac adapter. Then unplug the batter and plug in the power cord only. If you have a green light and it turns on then your good on mobo and ac adatper. If you light goes out when you plug it in. Then its you mobo. If no light unpluged or pluged in, its the ac adapter. Next test your battery. There is a little button on the bottom its white and has five leds next to if. If you press it and lights come on, its good to go. IF you get flashing lights or no lights the battery is dead. (means no power so if you used it till it won't power on battery power anymore. you know the issue). :P
I’m excited

My battery has those 5 lights that light up just fine. But the computer says there is no battery. I just bought a new AC adapter for the comp hoping that would solve the no battery problem. The original AC adapter had a visible break in it. No luck. Still no battery.
I've had a few problems with this Dell e1505. HD died a few months after purchase. The battery / charger stopped functioning right around the year mark. Not the computer is suffering some strange sound problem, where there is a static spike about every 1.5 seconds, a stutter and or reverb quality also in the audio. In sync with the stutter is a slight pause for video.
All together I'm looking for a new laptop. But it won't be a Dell. -
Inappropriate?I have had the same problems with my E1505. After doing some research on the internet, I have found that the jack and the AC power cord are two weak links in laptops. Recently my computer quit charging all together and I was forced to take action. I knew that the AC adapter cord plug was faulty due to movement either making or breaking the AC/Charger icon on the task bar. I have cut into the end of the power cable plug and found broken wires. After re-soldering these wires, my laptop is now charging correctly. However, prior to dong this I already ordered a new cable pig tail and jack for the computer. These can be found at http://www.notebookpowerjacks.com/ and http://www.laptopjacks.com/view_part/... for a very minimal price if you know how to work on electronic equipment. The only thing I am not sure of is how to open up the AC adapter to connect the pig tail. If anyone knows how to open this unit without breaking it, I would appreciate the information.
