Dell Monitor Warranty?
My Dell SE198FWP suddenly It is nearly 2 years old. Purchased direct from Dell nearly 2 years ago - whole system had 1 year Base Warranty. I have been told that Dell Monitors have 3 Year standard warranty? Does anyone know if this is correct?

Inappropriate?If the monitor was purchased tied to the PC, then the monitor only carries the PC warranty.

Inappropriate?Oh dear.Wonder if you can help diagnose the problem? SE198WFP lost digital input, and then analog input. Were advised the issue was video card and purchased GeForce 8300 GS about 1 month ago from Dell. Monitor has been working fine since then, but today it just died. The pc and monitor were turned on, but were not being operated, and the screen just went black (power light also went out).
Have changed the power lead but this is not the problem.
Any thoughts? -
Inappropriate?Try the monitor selftest. If it passes, the issue is with either the video card driver or the card itself.
* Turn off the monitor
* Unplug the monitor from the computer (ALL cables)
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background -
Inappropriate?Hi Chris
Tried that already I'm afraid but I have no power whatsoever. Unable to do selftest as monitor will not power up. There is no light on the power button.
Do you think it is lost cause or is there still hope?
-
Inappropriate?It is faulty. Are you sure the monitor was purchased tied to the PC or could it have been a separate order?
-
Inappropriate?It was bought as a complete system invoice date 23 Oct 07. The invoice states Base Warranty 1 Year Collect & Return, but it seems that had I bought the exact same monitor separately it would be covered by a 3 year warranty?
-
Inappropriate?That is correct.

Inappropriate?Thanks for your help with this Chris - although looks like I need to buy a new monitor but probably not Dell.
It seem so wrong that the warranty period differs for the same model dependant upon whether bought independently or with a system.This is the second screen that has failed, both bought with systems and therefore not covered by the 3 year monitor warranty. Both failed within 24 months of original purchase.
I can only assume inferior monitors are shipped with complete systems.
