Dell Preferred Accounts not as they appear!!
I have a Dell Preferred Account and I have a large amount of Available credit. When I wanted to buy something off the web site with my AVAILABLE CREDIT, the idiot on the other end of the phone ran a credit check with out my permission and then tells me that I am not approved, which doesnt make any sense when on my monthly invoice it clearly states AVAILABLE CREDIT. The four different people and 1 manager could barely speak english and tell me that they do a credit check on everybody that wants to buy something and every time you buy something even if you have a preferred account. That is really messed up! I dont remember the last time I went shopping with my Visa and the clerk at the till did a credit check before I could buy my groceries!!! I think Dell should inform all of their customers about this and that when you have available credit on your account you actually dont have any !!!

Inappropriate? When was the last time you had received a monthly statement? Generally inactive accounts are closed after a certain amount of time -- and that would be the only reason we would need to re-run your credit.
If you call and don't have your Dell Preferred Account number handy, you are asked for your SSN and your mother's maiden name to pull up the account and should be asked for your permission to do a "credit review". This is legal scripting that we are required to read. It will not create an inquiry on your credit report unless the account has indeed been closed. If it is open, it simply pulls up your information. -
What you said makes sense, however, this exact problem happened to me. My Preffered account was setup on Dec 18th 2008 and we recieved our statement on Dec 27th. The statement showed a large available credit. I set the account up online. It also showed a large credit. I called the number listed for preferred account inquires. The automated service complied. There is no link on the Dell site to use this credit, it wants to pull a report for new financing. When I called the sales service line I was told they would need to pull a report. I told them I didnt want to. The documentation for the Preferred account on the statement CLEARLY states no report will be pulled when making a purchase with your line of credit,(which insidentally is the very purpose of a revolving line of credit),. I spoke with 3 reps and 2 managers and they all said the same thing. I got the very strong sence that they had no idea what a preferred acount or a revolving line of credit are. Now, what you said makes sence to me. I get the need for a soft pull. But they still would not allow to buy my TV even though I had a substancial available credit according to a two week old statement and a current online and telephone service quote. I just need to figure out how to use this thing or... Have someone explain to me why I can't. No one could tell me anything but "we cannot extend your credit at this time". I didnt want my credit extended. I wanted what my statement said I already had!!
Very frustrating. -
I get a statement every month and even in my contract and statement it states that the dell preferred account is a REVOLVING LINE OF CREDIT,which means that I can use my dell account whenever i want as long as I have an available credit, which I do and even the Dell Financial account phone # tells me my balance , when my last payment was recived and my available credit. I think that the people who work in the dell call centers need to learn how to understand english because when I called in to purchase something because there was no spot for me to put my prefferred account # at the online checkout, I gave the person my account # and he asked me some questions which I thought were just to verify that I was who I said I was and then tells me he did a credit check and that I was not approved. Of course I would not be approved for a new account with dell when I already have an active one!!!! The guy I spoke to was an idiot, I said why is that and he says that he ran a credit check and it came back not approved. I said you didnt need to do that because I have a revolving line of credit and he says he has to do that everytime someone calls in to buy something . I said I gave you my account # and that should have been good enough and he said no. So then I asked him if I was to go to a grocery store and pay with my Visa the clerk would have to do a credit check before I could pay for my groceries? and he said yes sir that is correct. I dont know how credit works in india but I do know that that is not how it works in canada or the US. The managers I spoke to were also very rude and said the same thing. I think that is a bullshit way to conduct business and I wont buy from dell again. I tried to get ahold of somebody at dell financial to find out how to add dell financial as a payee for my online banking so I can pay off my balance right away because dell doesnt deserve to collect any interest from me and they dont even understand the question. Dell Canada should change its name to Delll India !!!!!!!!!! because no one there can speak or understand the english language, which is important to be able to converse about financial matters!!! I have spoken to Dell employees 16 times in one week and each and every one of them including the "managers" cant even hold a conversation with me. They all say the exact same thing that each and every one of them is reading off a peice of paper. Dell Canada needs to open call centers in Canada. It is very frustrating trying to have a conversation with someone who doesnt understand what you are saying and thengiving you answers that dont make any sense and are not even related to the subject. If you know of a call ceneter in Canada that I can contact to resolve my isue that would be great. I'm doubtfull that there is but if there is what is it? I am in no way disrespecting India, I am just frustrated with trying to deal with outsourced call centers in India. -
Inappropriate?Hey Steve , I see you are having the exact same issue as me, if you get any kind of result from this please let me know, that would be appreciated.Good Luck :)

Inappropriate? It's funny, I called Dell Canada to find out exactly which numbers of my prefferred customer account i need to add dell as a payee on my internet banking to pay off my balance and close my account and they dont understand my question. I asked them if there was anybody in canada i can speak to about this and they said No. So unless I learn how to speak punjabi I think I am out of luck. Does anybody have an idea of what to do in this situation?
I’m frustrated and confused.
