Dell XPS M1330 no longer charging, no error message.
I'm having more motherboard problems with my XPS M1330. :-(
When the AC adapter is plugged in it will not charge. The suddenly started happening yesterday, even if I wiggle the AC adapter nothing happens. I'm in IT Support (even been to Round Rock for DCSE training) and since we lease Dell computers at work I have a lot of known good equipment to test with, my battery and AC adapter are working perfect in another M1330.
I've never gotten the "adapter type cannot be determined" error. It just stopped charging all together today. My guess is heat burned the power port out?
Of course though my warranty is expired, it expired days before my computer started showing the lines across the screen indicating the Nvidia GPU problem a little less then a year ago. Thankfully I could do the replacement myself because since my warranty expired Dell would only do a "parts only" repair meaning they would only send me the part. Swapping out a mobo has to be one of the most tedious tasks on the planet.
Even after my motherboard was replaced with the latest BIOS versions and the fan running constantly my M1330 still tends to run hot, that's one reason it's never left my desk. I can't help but think it's related.

Inappropriate?I'm cross posting this to several related threads. I have a different model Dell than you do, but maybe this is relevant to yours as well.
I am having the exact same problem on my five month old Vostro 1710. On this model anyway, it is NOT a motherboard problem. I'm still under warranty, so Dell sent a tech out to replace the motherboard and the power adapter. Brand new power adapter didn't solve the problem, so he went on to change out the motherboard. But once he got the system apart, he could see that the port where the adapter plugs in is NOT even part of the motherboard. It's connected to the plastic chassis underneath, by a couple of tiny plastic pieces, which had broken. Without those pieces to hold it in place, the port was loose and couldn't make a good connection anymore.
This is 100% a design flaw IMO...it doesn't take much to break those little plastic pieces. In my case, five months of normal usage (plugging and unplugging the power adapter once or twice a day) was enough to break the plastic and render the port inoperable.
My point being...this is NOT necessarily a motherboard problem, even though tech support seems to think it is.

Inappropriate?as I wrote here: http://getsatisfaction.com/dell/topic...
I have a very similar problem, and my warranty ended a few months ago (obviously...). I also tried with a different ac adapter with no success. I never tried another battery though.
Did anybody contact support about this issue?

Inappropriate?I think i've narrowed down this issue. I have been all over the web researching it. My wife found a solution, and a clue as to how to possibly fix. Its not the AC connector to laptop thats the problem its the connection between the Battery and the back of the Unit (the GOlden pins when you remove the battery.) If you remove the battery a couple of times while plugged into AC power, it starts charging again. Im thinking of bending the pins a little to make a more solid connection, as we are out of warranty as well. I'm a PC technician though...
It seems to be that the connector part that tells the computer what type of battery it is is whats the culprit. -
Inappropriate?not for me, my computer won't power on with the battery took off, if it was a battery issue the computer would work while plugged in

Inappropriate?well tina i have the same issue... its a bios issue... if you reflash the bioss then your battery will charge again at least till you turn of the computer... and if you enter in the bios and change the virtualization option and reboot you will have the same effect...
im looking for a bios mod to solve this problem
I’m sad

Inappropriate? It seems to Randomly work then not work. Sometimes we plug it in and it charges. sometimes we unplug and plug in and it charges, then randomly it will stop working. I am not sure what it is. The port doesnt feel loose, I don't think thats what it is.
The performance of the laptop goes TO HELL when its not charging. a 10 year old video game (Everquest) ran choppy as hell. Unpluggin and pluggin back in the power got it charging once and the graphics speed changed 100%. I don't know what's going on. I am really dissapointed with this laptop. It is my wife's and she doesnt have a PC for gaming, I bought the thing for gaming and my MSI Wind runs faster in Everquest than her laptop! The wind doesn't even have a real video card!
I’m irritated and upset

Inappropriate?I had the same problem but now it is one step further. My charger will be plugged in and the battery icon on my computer wont even say its plugged in at all. I had my motherboard replaces about 5 months ago. Then came my "plugged in but not charging", which only charged unless I pushed in my charger into the plug-in slot really hard. But just yesterday whenever I plug-in my charger into the slot now its not even saying that its plugged in and its running on battery power. I've had this laptop repaired 5 different times already, and its really getting on my nerves. ..
I’m mad!
