Dell XPS M1530's battery won't charge, plugged in.
My Dell XPS M1530's battery won't charge, all of a sudden. It says "0% available (plugged in, not charging). When I boot it up and enter setup (F2 at the DELL spash screen), it doesn't recognise my adapter (D series, the very same one supplied with the laptop), and mentions that my "battery has experienced a permanent failure and needs to be replaced".
I get no error message while booting normally either, simply the "0%" icon in the task tray in Vista. The battery status LED on the front of the laptop is flashing red, as if to say the battery is simply undercharged.. but the battery just won't charge! I've left my laptop off and plugged in for 2 days, and it hasn't charged the battery.
It turns on just fine with the AC adapter plugged in and battery removed, the same with the battery installed. I've checked all the contacts on the battery and adapter, they are clean and not broken. I don't have any other adapters or laptops to test with.. when I run the self help diagnostic tool (in the Dell Support Center), it just turns my laptop off.
My service tag is: 3YPWC3J.

Inappropriate? Its either the power adapter, battery or motherboard(charging circuit).

Inappropriate?AC Adaptors do go bad sometimes. With the computer OFF, plug it in for an hour, then check Control Panel:Power Options: Power Meter to see if the dell xps m1530 battery is charged. (If the charger is not supplying the proper wattage, it may run the computer but not charge it.)
If you have access to a similar computer, try your charger on the other computer, and the other computer's adaptor on yours. You may have a malfunction in the charging circuit which should be covered by your Dell Warranty.
I like to use the Control Panel Power Meter because you can plug and plug the adaptor and see what the computer is seeing.

Inappropriate?it is the motherboard. there are hundreds experiencing the same problem including myself. Updating BIOS, changing adaptors, battery...nothing. All solutions involved the changeout of the motherboard. Dell will not recall this either, so if you don't have the extended warranty...you are unfortunately out of luck...$500 for the board.

Inappropriate?in one year i've had this same problem and it was the motherboard both times, lucky for me i had the warranty but now it's run out and i'm shit out of luck 'cause it's happening again.. DeLL SUCKS!

Inappropriate?I've had the same problem with my XPSM1530 Laptop. A new bios battery, two trips to the local repair guy and a couple of hefty labour bills later, and still no luck, still 'plugged in, not charging.' Bummer, as I'm going away to college in september and this isn't the best time for it to break!
I’m sad

Inappropriate? Thanks friend for your response,if the issue still persist then please call up DELL tech and ask for motherboard replacement.
if your comp is under warranmty ..
it is a sure shot issue with motherboard or I/O panel.
also please letme inform you that DELL will not entertain purcahsing their product from other 3rd party vendor as it effect you comp warranty.
hope you will get the motherboard replacement if your comp is under warranty .
infor Dell Techinician you tried the few steps oftroubleshooting and please inform him everything perfectly as you told me.
also letme me inform you that the battery you purchase it is not not from DELL so DEll will not be held responsible for the issue with battery.
hope you will get the resolution for your problem.
if not then you have a DEPT call OWR (Out of Warranty Repair) which is a paid support and they will take of your comp..

Inappropriate?I had the same issue. When under warranty, they had to come and replace the motherboard and it worked again for another 5 months. Its doing it again but I have no recourse because my warranty is up now. If anyone is going to do a class action against Dell, please let me know cause I will be all for it.

Inappropriate? Here is another one! I replaced my AC charger and got a new battery and still wont charge so I know its the Mother Board. I would almost spend the $500 to get a new mb but if its going to fail again why waste the money. I am pissed, I really liked this laptop.
