Inspiron 1501: The battery cannot be identified! Also the AC adapter type cannot be determined! Help!
Hello, I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop. Recently, on boot-up, the following message is displayed:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
WARNING: The battery cannot be identified.
This system will be unable to charge this battery.
WARNING: The AC adapter type cannot be determined.
This will prevent optimal system performance.
Please check AC adapter connect properly, remove
AC adapter and plug-in it again, thanks.
Press Any Key to Continue
Press <f2> 2 times to enter SETUP
Press <f12> and Any Key to enter Boot Menu.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am using the same Dell adapter that came with my laptop so I don't know why this is happening all of a sudden. The green light on the adapter turns on when plugged in, also the green light on the laptop with the lightning symbol turns on. The system does feel slower after this message starting popping up.
Is there a solution other than buying a new battery/adapter? Please Help!
Thank You.</f12></f2>

Inappropriate? My daughter's inspiron 1501 is a couple year old. She has had the same problem as you describe for a couple months, except that this week it quit booting up. When powering on the laptop, it briefly sounds like it will power up and then nothing. The power light is on, but the system won't boot up.
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?Dan T, I had the same issue with a friends laptop and found it was due to a faulty memory module. You can remove the memory cover under the laptop. I removed one but it still didnt work so replaced it and removed the other and the laptop booted up ok. I have replace the faulty memory from crucial.com for only £15
