Inspiron 1520 won't charge
I've had this laptop (dell Inspiron 1520 service tag: 1552QD1) for about 16 months now, and for the most part it's been great. Up until recently, and I've googled everywhere and it seems that this is a probem experienced by almost all Dell laptop owners, my computer won't charge at all. It recognizes that it is plugged in, as that is the only way I am able to use my computer now, but it stays around 25% power level. Because of this, my computer runs exceptionally slower, freezes on a regular basis, and will turn off if my computer comes unplugged even for only a minute. I am very pissed as this has just happened recently and I am now no longer under warranty to be helped by Dell. I don't have the money to start pumping out the dollars to even attempt to resolve the problem as I am a college student. The prices of the parts that could resolve the problem (battery, adapter) are very costly, and who's to say that those are even my problems. Then beyond that, trying to pay for a tech to fix it, is ridiculous. But I really need this problem fixed and soon, because my computer is my life (I'm an engineering major) I need this for everything. I pray that there is someway that you could help me, but at the moment, all hope seems lost.

Inappropriate?you will probably have to take it to a PC technician or phone up DELL and see what they say

Inappropriate? It sounds a lot like your battery has worn out. I have a 1520 and my battery performance started decaying after about a year and i just had to replace it. All lithium batteries wear out and eventually stop holding a charge (looks like your problem. Its 100 percent guaranteed. Its why batteries are classified as accessories so there not covered under extended warranties. 16 months is more than enough time for this to happen. You will have to purchase a new battery. You can save a bit of cash if you buy a third party battery because there is nothing special about the dell ones except for them being over priced. I bought a replacement 85whr 9 cell battery of ebay for 65 bucks shipped from some brand called denaq and it works great. Oh and if your problem was the ac adapter your computer would turn of if plugged in with the battery removed. I know you probably dont want to spend any money but there is no way around this one. You just have to bite the bullet

Inappropriate?dont listen to these guys, expecially the one telling you to buy a cheap battery on ebay. you know that message you see just before or after the bios screen when you fist turn it on? Yeah thats an indication of an issue other than the battery being old. I have an old battery on my toshiba and it still charges to 100% but that 100% is much smaller than it use to be.
Same issue with this dell 1520.
