Inspiron E1505 battery plugged in but won't charge
The battery on my Dell Inspiron E1505 will not charge. I have the AC power plugged in, and the light on the adapter works and it keeps my computer running, it just won't charge the battery. My warranty has expired on my laptop as it is just over 18 months old. The adapter is relatively new compared though-- only about 6 months.
In the three sets of lights on the computer, the last one that lets you know if it is charged does not light up. When I hover over the battery meter it says: "5% available (plugged in, not charging)" and when I reboot a message pops up saying that I need to attach a 65W-ac adaptor- but that is what is plugged into it. I have already tried taking out the battery and putting it back in, but it does nothing.

Inappropriate?I have the same issue with a M1330 and Dell's first response was to replace the battery, a new battery doesn't make a difference. I was fortunate to encounter someone with another Dell, their adapters were the 90W adapter that they mainly use with docking station, they also use a 65W battery otherwise but also use the 90W directly. I decided to try the 90W and it works fine. Now, I am not sure what is going on with the laptop all of a sudden requiring a higher wattage, I am awaiting Dell tech to check out the laptop soon and I will provide another update, but see if you can borrow for a few seconds another Dell adapter with a higher wattage and see if the message went away. Also, I think I can map this event close to the time I put on the latest firmware for the BIOS but I am not 100% sure about that.
Try to figure out when this started happening. I think this issue prevents the Battery from properly charging eventually killing it and require you to get a new battery. -
Inappropriate?I had this problem with my E1505. It seems as though the pin at the end of the connector had been broken or jambed into the cord. Anyway, the power adapter would power my laptop, but did not reach far enough to contact the battery charger connection. I was about to replace the connection on the motherboard, but a new adapter fixed the problem.
-
Inappropriate? My E1505 says battery not present! And it immediately dies as soon as a/c power is switched off! Kindly tell me if this could also be some adapter problem!??
-
ME too!!! Did it ever get resolved? I'm still under warranty! -
Inappropriate? In my case, the computer knew that a battery was installed. It just was not charging.

Inappropriate?Perhaps the ac adapter you are using is dead and i suggest you replace it for a new one. see http://www.laptop-battery-inc.co.uk/l... or www.power-batteries.net/notebook/dell... for the tips of Inspiron E1505 battery, hope it could help you,i got the same problem as yours several months ago and they told me that my ac adapter was rather old; From what you said above, the adapter is not so old, maybe the its quality is not so excellent.good luck!
-
Inappropriate? In your case ,the light on the adapter works and it keeps computer running ,it sames that your adapter is right , the battery has some problem , Did you notice some battery tips, such as , new batteries recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours). don't plan on using the replacement inspiron e1505 dell battery for a month or more, recommend storing it in a clean, dry, cool place away from heat and metal objects. I buy a dell inspiron e1505 battery from this site : http://www.discount-laptopbattery.com... , i use it for two years , it works as new.
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem as well with my inspiron 1501, From my research it's know that these batteries and chargers were "built to die". The answers Dell has provided me with were as follows:
-My Adaptor was broken and not reaching the port well enough to charge it.
- I replaced my adaptor... no help, it would flash as if it is charging and almost immediatly stop.
-My battery was dead, and the average life-span of these batteries is 18 months. If it stops working you must replace it.
- My laptop started showing symptoms at 8 months (now 14 months) and has been living for 6 months plugged in slowly reducing to 0% charge and not charging.
I have come to believe that this battery is the main problem and I am hoping this is the problem and that it hopefully is in your situation too. I am currently looking into buying a battery at the moment. If you are thinking this is the issue of your laptop as well, I reccomend Amazon.com as a cheap, efficiant place to get your replacement battery.
I’m annoyed by Dell

Inappropriate?IN my case it turned out the adapter was the problem not the battery. Fortuntely I had a second adapter and as soon as I plugged it into the second adapter it started charging.
So the bottom line is don't asume that it is the battery that is the problem. It doesn't hurt to buy a second adapter (you can keep it in the car or at your office for example) and an adapter is usually a little cheaper than a new battery -- at least on ebay.)
I am happy I Googled and found this thread because I was ready to buy a battery I really didn't need.

Inappropriate?About 3 years ago I thought the battery for my Dell Inspiron 5100 had died and not knowing any better junked it. Since then I ran my computer off the power cord . . .until something with that connection recently went bad with loose wires. So I went ahead and bought a new AC power cord along with a battery since I was already spending the money. The power cord works fine powering my computer, but the computer will not recognize the battery. When I look up the information on my power settings it says "no battery present" . . .any ideas?
-
Inappropriate?I have an Inspiron 1525 and just a few months ago I noticed that the battery was no longer charging up even when plugged in for extended periods of time. The only time I ever use my battery is when it's inconvenient to be plugged in- it's otherwise spent 90% of its life plugged in somewhere. Now when I want to unplug there's no battery charge to use- it's already drained and it, like many of you, says plugged in but not charging. I just bought this laptop last year- it's not even 12 months yet. Unbelievable.
-
This is exactly my problem...what is causing it? Anyone know? Thanks -
Inappropriate?I just tried the 90W adapter from my work's laptop (the one that came with my dell is 65W) and no such luck on the charging front. I did just notice that my battery has a bit of a wiggle to it. I tried moving it around but no position makes it charge. Most irritating.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? Can't help with the adapter, but the battery has been recalled...

Same issue here. This laptop/battery is rife with this issue. Search E1505 battery problems...
very ugh. -
Inappropriate?I too have an e1505. I replaced the battery a few months ago, and had to replace my adapter (which mysteriously died) last month. The new adapter is a 90w, and it was charging the battery fine for the first 3 weeks. Just this week I noticed that it was no longer charging the battery. I've tried removing the battery with no success. I'm going to try and borrow a Dell manufactured adapter and see if it charges the battery. If that doesn't work either, then I either suspect that my replacement battery is dying, or that part of the computer/adapter connection inside the computer is damaged.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I suffered the same dilemma...And to my surprise after suspecting and purchasing a new battery, it was the power adapter. You my have the 65watt adapter that came with the computer. For some reason after time,( about the same time in your case as mine). it will only charge with a 90watt adapter. Bought one and all is fine...Just keep your 65 watt for ac use and charge with 90 watt...Even battery I thought was dead charged.
-
I think it is the power adapter too. But nobody on dell's tech phone service would tell me this. After extensive waste of time with dell customer service I researched and have learned that dell knew the adapters would blow. That's just wrong.

Inappropriate?I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 and this happened. I followed the above advice re: using the higher watt adaptor (which I happen to have, for an older Dell laptop) and it still doesn't charge. Any other suggestions?
-
Inappropriate?I am experiencing this same problem with the Inspiron 1525. I, too, wasted several minutes on the phone with Dell support, which only offered me a complete system restore, an opportunity to buy an external hard drive, and an offer to extend my warranty because it expires soon. Apparently, the warranty that I'm currently under isn't doing me any good now.
I tried the 90W adapter and it didn't work. Based on the responses that I've read here, I guess I need to buy a new 65W adapter to get this back on track.
I'm extremely frustrated.
I’m agitated
-
Inappropriate? It's amazing that so many of us seem to be having the same problems with the Inspiron 1505 ie battery not charging although ac adapter is plugged in - is it why this laptop became obsolete? Dell are crap with their advice/extended warranty plug. I only bought my laptop in January 2008. If I had known this was going to happen I would have bought the Sony Vaio instead!
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?i just read everyone elses. i have a dell inspiron 1501 and had it about 20 months. the average life span of a charger is 18 months and i bought a new charger. computer charges!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?A battery life is about 12 to 18 months, you'd better to buy new one. Here is a good battery shop http://laptopsbattery.us/dell-inspiro...

Inappropriate?I had this same issue. I resolved it by removing the battery and reinstalling it. Hope this works for you! If you have a relatively new power cord, it shouldn't be the source of your problem.
I’m Hungry!
-
Inappropriate?Maybe Dell inspiron E1505 battery is worn out. The battery's life is very short, if you don't make it under maintenance, the battery will aging faster. So use the AC power if possible, And you can get a replacement dell battery .
I’m hungry

Inappropriate?I had the same problem, Dell told me to replace the battery (3 yrs old) but that didnt fix it. Saw on a message board to try a 90w power supply, Luckly my other dell laptop uses a 90w. Still didnt work. I contacted Dell again told them what I had tried they replaced the motherboard (i have a 4 year warranty) works great now!
I’m happy

Inappropriate? You can fully charge and discharge your battery two times with a good charger. If it can still not work, maybe the battery is dead. You'd bettery buy another one.

Inappropriate?Hi friends
try using the different AC adapter or turn on the comp only by using battery.
check whether the battery is getting charged in BIOS
then
Try updating the Bios on your comp by visiting http://support.dell.com
from there select the option as I am looking for the driver. and then type the service tag of your comp and download and the BIOS on your comp desktop.
Note: for updating BIOS you need at least 10% battery charge.
90% of time this will resolve the issue.
else you comp battery will be faulty
contact DELL Tech support and ask for a repalcement if the battery is within a year of purchase. -
Inappropriate?Request for our user to please update the service tag or express service code of your comp for better understanding of the issue.
thanks -

Dell Inspiron E1505 battery, a rechargeable battery, which can replace Dell inspiron 6400 laptop and Dell inspiron E1505. -
Inappropriate?you can try unplugging the power cable from the charger and plugging it back in a bunch of times while the other end is still plugged into the laptop, it might recognize it eventually. I have this problem every so often and it takes about 10 tries but it works.

Inappropriate?I had the same problem with my DELL 1501 battery, on restart my BIOS was sending me a warning message that battery is not recognised , and it didn't want to charge battery. I updated my BIOS from http://support.dell.com , that solved my problem with warning message but it still didn't want to charge my battery. I tried almost everything that I had read but the only thing that worked was next:
Go to DEll QuickSet / power management , make new power scheme turn off every thing (don't let system to go in stand by or to turn off display) then in alarms change that when battery level go under 7% turn of automatic stand by. Next thing is not good for your laptop but is necessary , plug out your charger, when battery is totally discharged pc will turn down , press power button if your PC won't turn on. Plug in your charger charging battery should start normally. -
Inappropriate?Don't worry; it's perfectly normal.
Dell INSPIRON E1505 Battery is shipped in a discharged condition and must be charged before use, Generally recommend an overnight charge (approximately twelve hours). Rechargeable Dell INSPIRON E1505 Battery should be cycled - fully charged and then fully discharged - 2 to 4 times initially to allow them to reach their full capacity. it is perfectly normal for a battery to become warm to the touch during charging and discharging.
New INSPIRON E1505 Battery ishard for your device to charge; they have never been fully charged and are therefore "unformed". Sometimes your device's charger will stop charging a new battery before it is fully charged. If this happens, simply remove the battery from your device and then re-insert it. The charge cycle should begin again. This may happen several times during your first battery charge. -
