Inspiron E1505 battery plugged in, charged, but computer doesn't recognize it!

My wife has a Dell Inspiron E1505 which works great except for one thing, the battery is worthless. It's not what you think, the battery is plugged in and says it's fully charged, but the computer refuses to recognize it. It's plugged in and sucking power, but it's invisible to the computer itself! This battery was recalled and her's is in prime company to be recalled, but they say no. Help! Service tag: BN1YR91 and the battery's tag is :JP-0RD857-48330-63N-1JB9. Thanks!
