Vostro 1520 freezes
My Vostro 1520 will often suddenly freeze. Usually within 15 minutes of booting. If it makes it past that, it may last all day with no problems.
Once frozen, the only response I can get is by turning off the wireless (switch on left side of laptop), the Bluetooth indicator light will go off. Turning it on again will turn the light on. Apart from that, only holding the power switch for 5+ seconds does anything.

Inappropriate? The first response on this thread looks similar:

Inappropriate?HI, Glen.
Are you seeing anything in Event Viewer that may indicate which driver or component may be causing the lockup? -
Inappropriate?Hi Bill... I did check that, and there is nothing at all. I've spent over an hour on the phone with MS tech support and Dell tech support and have no leads. The only guess from Dell tech support was that it may be a motherboard issue.

Inappropriate?I am having this problem too :( Dell UK said I can't return the laptop because it's been more than 7 days that I received it.
The problem happens when the power cord is plugged. If it's not plugged, it runs well. Strange!!
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Same issue, on original machine AND replacement. Dell replaced HDD (we then reinstalled everything, no fix) then RAM, MB and CPU. Then replaced with a brand new 1520. Same issues. Very interesting that everything runs sweet on battery...

Inappropriate?Just to add some more data to this thread. I have the same problem. It must be HW related. I ran both OpenSuse and OpenSolaris on this machine and would get those strange occasional freezes. I can confirm it happens with power plugged in. On battery this never happens.

Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem too and Dell isn't owning up to it being a hardware problem.
-
Inappropriate? How long have you owned this system? They finally decided to take the machine back and issue a full refund. Dell has done this for several people even after the 30 days. You have to keep pushing and demanding. I did not want to get stuck with a defective system especially with a +$1k price tag.
It's a shame they don't step up to the plate because it's a known and well documented issue. -
Inappropriate?I have this problem, I got through to Dell after about an hour, they told me initialy they know there is a fault with the software with this product and they are currently working on an update to fix this problem. When I told them I needed a different product or my money back as I need a working product for work they told me they would send me a new power adaptor =/
Dell offer the worst customer service. I'm not happy with them.
I’m frustrated and dissapointed
