XPS M1330 - Microphone array doesn't work
The microphone array in my XPS M1330 used to fine but after trying to use it for the first time in a while i cant get it to work at all.
When trying to test the microphone it doesn't detect any input at all. I have updated to the latest sigmatel audio drivers with no luck. I have also updated the BIOS to A15 with no improcement .
Most recently I ran the diagnostic utility and got the following error during the cable check:
Error Code 2000-0411 Hardware detect error Microphone Board not detected.
Some time ago my video card fried and dell sent out a technician to replace pretty much the whole motherboard. Could this mean that the last time a dell technician opened up my xps he didnt reconnect all the cables?
Thanks

Inappropriate?I also have th problem. I tlked to Dell Support and told me that the problem is with the mic, because the external mic is working properly. I requested a quotation to Dell and the part is just Us$ 40.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?thanks for your reply Antonio.
I ended up resolving this issue myself without having to buy any new parts or pay for DELL support.
I felt fairly certain that the issue was related to a loose cable so with google's help i found the disassembly instructions for my XPS M1330. Once i had removed the lcd casing i found that the cable was not properly inserted into the microphone array. After reconnecting the cable then reassembling and booting up... voila!! the little blue light started flashing again and my microphone array now works perfectly!
I would not recommend that you perform this yourself unless your laptop is out of warranty and you have some experience with notebook assembly/disassembly. It is relatively complex and the parts are very delicate so you run a real risk of damaging your notebook further... Good luck! -
Inappropriate?Antonio,
thinking more about what DELL told you this seems like pretty poor analysis on their part to me. If your external microphone is working this suggests that there is not a problem with your sound card and the issue is related to your array so they are correct there... however it does not necessarily mean that the part needs to be replaced! this is a typical sledgehammer approach taken by DELL to replace parts whenever there is an issue which seems hardware related. Once i had a technician come out onsite to fix my notebook and they replaced the motherboard, videocard and LCD panel only to find out that the issue was related to the RAM not being properly connected. rather than reassemble my old parts they just left me with the new components. this is great if you are under warranty but otherwise it can be an expensive approach!
If you are uncomfortable trying to check the connection to your microphone array yourself, you could try and ask DELL to provide a quote to check the connection to your microphone array and then only replace the part if required.... just a thought. -
Inappropriate?I had this coicidently come after installing Windows Vista SP2. After SP2 was installed, machine blue screened and won;t boot at all in any mode. Cannot not repair O/S with Recovery COnsole or automatic Startup fix.
