XPS M1330 audio playback skipping and popping.

UPDATED: I have had my XPS M1330 since April, and I have a continuing problem with the audio. Whenever I play music or DVDs, I hear skips and pops. This happens regardless of whether I am using headphones or the laptop speakers. I have spoken with Dell on the phone and by chat, and they have decided that they think I have a spyware problem. They want me to back up all of my files so we can reinstall Vista. I'm willing to go for this, but I really don't think the audio problem is related to spyware...it had this problem when I took it out of the box and I have spyware protection. The problem isn't in any part of the motherboard, because a Dell certified technician replaced that for an unrelated problem last week...no change in the problem. Will make contact with Dell tomorrow to reinstall Vista and see if that takes care of it. Hope it does, but doubtful that this will work. Please help.
