New Feature request to create reoccurring tasks?
Is there a way to set up reoccurring task lists? For example we have quarterly research reports due and it would be ideal to be able to set up a task to repopulate itself quarterly or monthly or by a custom reoccurrance. There is a feature in lotus notes that is their reminder function that is similar to what I'm talking about.

Inappropriate?Sure I understand. Unfortunately, recurring tasks are not implemented currently. This will be a good feature to add in the near future. Thanks!
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Has deskaway considered this feature for any future releases? Recurring tasks are something i use very often, would be good feature to have... don't mind if its in the paid plans...
Please let me know
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate? We haven't started to work on this feature yet. There are other important releases before which this can be done.

Inappropriate?Hi there
I'd just love a recurring/ regenerative tasks feature too.
Within my Outlook calendar, I currently have 9 recurring appointments (they're basically tasks) which I add time to. Some tasks recur each week (e.g. every Wednesday). Some tasks recur each month (e.g. the 1st day of the month).
If when adding a task to DeskAway, there was a little tick box that let me set it to recur every week or every month... and an end-date could be set (or a repeat forever option), this would save me hours of repetitive typing each year.
Being able to just click on & add time to a task that had been automatically created by DeskAway would be a dream come true.
It would also mean less time spent in Outlook & more time spent in DeskAway... WOOHOO!
I’m hopeful with a pinch of worried

Inappropriate?Hey dodghz,
So, if I understand correctly, you want to have an option when adding a task (that is inside a task list) essentially marking the task as 'recurring'.
So, lets say you do mark it as 'daily'. Tomorrow, you want DeskAway to automatically add a new task to the same tasklist?
So, if you had closed that task today, another one would pop up tomorrow (since its daily recurring)?
I can understand how recurring would work in a calendar layout (like Google Cal or Outlook). Just trying to see how this might fit in a list layout.
I’m brainstorming

Inappropriate?Hi Sal
Your description is 100% correct.
I've been thinking more about the possibility of a recurring tasks feature (to spot potential complications). What do you think about the following :
1. Could a recurring task possibly have the 'Assigned to' field pre-populated with the same value that was originally set in the original task?
2. I'd be 100% happy to have the 'Deadline' date set as the current date (i.e. the date the task is regenerated on), but I'm wondering if this would suit everybody.
I'll keep thinking at this end.
I’m happy today
-
Inappropriate?1. Yes
2. I think the deadline might have to shift automatically. So, if the original task had a deadline gap of 2 months, the recurring task deadline will shift automatically to accomodate the 2 months.
I’m thinking...
-
Inappropriate?Hi Sal
You think waaaay quicker than me!
I can't see any flaws in your 'automatically generated Deadline date' solution. Dare I say it would work well for everyone needing a recurring task feature.
There's nothing else that I'd need from a recurring task feature. Do you think it could be implemented?
I’m drooling a little [wipes chin]
-
Inappropriate? So, the task is only automatically added (if certain conditions are met) when you goto the Task List page, right?
-
Inappropriate? This is the tricky bit perhaps.
I'd imagined that recurring tasks would be added to the Task Lists based on the current date. i.e. The DeskAway system would run a daily check for recurring tasks & would create new ones if certain conditions are met.
I'm not sure how the daily 'DeskAway Notifications' email is created, but I'd imagined there was some sort of cron job run on the server. I was thinking recurring tasks could be created in a similar way...
... but I know nothing about the stresses & strains this might put on the DeskAway server.
I’m thinking about buying shares in aspirin

Inappropriate?True. We will think about the best way to implement this.
-
Inappropriate?Somehow a solution that I posted here did not save. We will be working on the recurring task functionality within the next 1 week. Here is what we are thinking:
1. Add a task
2. Mark it as Recurring
3. Choose recurring time - daily, weekly, quarterly, yearly
4. Choose end recurring time
5. Add the task.
Whenever the task is completed, we will check to see if it recurs. If it does, then we will add another task depending on whether it recurs daily, weekly, etc.
This way if Bob is assigned a 'weekly backup task' whenever he completes it another one will be added automatically in the same task list.
Adding tasks without it being completed will just clutter up the interface and make it more confusing for the user.
There will be a 'recurring icon' next to the task to denote that it is recurring.

Inappropriate? Thanks for getting this in - but why is the recurring option limited to daily, weekly, monthly and yearly?
I have tasks that repeat every 3days, 15 days, etc.
It would be good to have an 'custom period' option. Once custom is selected frequency (as no. of days) could be entered.
Look forward to your views on this..
Thanks

Inappropriate? Its just easier for the person adding the task. Sometimes, too many options slows down the process of adding a task and here we are trying to balance between simplicity and feature-richness.

Inappropriate? We have added 3 more options for recurring tasks - Fortnightly, Quarterly & Half-yearly.
