Only SOME tasks are visible to other users
I have a client listed as a Limited User so she only has access to her project. According to the FAQ and settings, she should have access to the tasks and task lists, but she's not seeing some of them so she's not able to see any comments added or updates.
Why can she only see some of them and not others? I need them to be assigned to me but viewable by her. And some of the tasks assigned to me ARE visible to her but not all of them.
She kept telling me she couldn't find something that I know for certain that I posted so I logged into her account to look and, sure enough, she's only seeing SOME of the tasks.

Inappropriate?Ok, apparently I have to CC the task to her in order for her to see it.
Why the extra step?? The point of adding her to the project as a Limited User is so she can see the tasks, so why should I have to make sure I CC her on each individual task on top of that?
I’m annoyed

Inappropriate?DeskAway is a Permission Based Project Management Tool.
So, in DeskAway a Regular User or a Limited User can't see other's tasks.
They can only see all the Tasks assigned to them or cc'ed to them.
For this Issue you can do one thing, assign all the required Tasks as Anyone then your Client (who is a Limited User) can also see those Tasks.

Inappropriate? If I understand Swati's reply, I am totally surprised, perhaps even appalled by it. Assigning a task to "anyone" so that everyone can see the entire task list defeats the purpose of being able to id who is responsible for a task. As far as I am concerned, this is a serious flaw in the design of the system. I just ran into it tonight. Having to cc every team member on every task so that everyone can see the entire project plan is way too INEFFICIENT. How can any professional do their part of a project if they can't see the context of how their task fits into other tasks and how their deadlines relate to other deadlines. Somewhere there needs to be an option that lets the project lead decide which team members can have the ability to see the entire project plan---their tasks and other team member's tasks and which team members only get to see their tasks. In my organization, any team member would have the option of viewing the entire project plan
I’m totally disappointed

Inappropriate? This is still not ideal, but one thing that might be easier to implement is to allow "anyone" in the cc field.
I’m concerned

Inappropriate? Thanks for the suggestion. We are looking into how best to make it easier for people to view tasks without assigning it to each individual.

Hello Angela,
There is a feature in the Add Task functionality. Now you can make all the Users as cc while adding a Task by selecting the option "Share [cc] with Everyone" from the "Also share (cc) with" drop down.
All Task List are visible by all the Super & Regular Users. But if you want to show a Task List to a Limited User then you have to check the "Check this box to allow limited users access to this task list..." check box option while adding a Task List.
Thanks,
Swati

Inappropriate?I understand that functionality. The problem we are having is that when we re-assign a task, we have to:
1. remove the person from the cc: line
2. assign the task to them
3. add the person who it was originally assigned to BACK to the cc:
It's the removing and adding action that is creating easy user errors. Can't there be a function that allows Regular Users to see ALL the tasks in their project (without making them a Super User and having to CC: them EVERY SINGLE TIME?).
I’m tired.

Inappropriate? If you make Regular User as Project Lead of that project then he/she will be treat as Super User for that project only. But only one user can be Project Lead. It might works for you.

Inappropriate? This is really a problem for my organisation (perhaps to the extent that we'd end our transition on to deskaway, and move to a competitor's product).
Ours users really need to be able to see (and comment) on tasks that have been assigned to other users - partly because we value collaboration and partly because they need to see the other tasks in a task list to truly understand what their role is.
It's too cumbersome to cc everyone in all the tasks we've assigned so far, and I don't want to have to train all userse to cc everyone is future.
For now are work around is to make every user a super-user, which is obviously problematic. A few potential solutions:
1. (I think this would be best) - make all tasks visible to all regular users on a project, unless they are flagged to be visible only to specific users.
2. Add a new class of user, between regular and super, that can view all tasks on a project he's been assigned to.
3. Add a 'Give this user permission to view all tasks in projects they are assigned to' flag to users.
4. Add a per-project or per-account setting that allows all users in a project to view all tasks in that project.
Please please find a solution to this - I'm very happy with deskaway and don't want to have to go elswhere.
I’m very frustrated

Inappropriate?Any solution to this issue? Is there a way to have one more type of user? Someone that can have read only access to the entire project, and read/write to the tasks assigned to them?? As more of our clients use the system, this type of functionality is critical.
-
Inappropriate? It seems like the simple solution, functionality-wise, is to select users to have the same permissions as a project lead (if that functionality exists, then you just have to make it available as a selection for all users).
I’m sad because this is taking a while, and my clients want to switch to basecamp, but I don't want to!

Inappropriate?Hi Jorge and Angela,
We understand this is really important and this will be done. It seems a simple change at first but since this is a permission change it will affect more than one area of the app. Will keep you'll posted. -
Inappropriate? We have implemented Open Task Lists. Read more about it here - http://www.deskaway.com/blog/2009/11/...
I’m excited
