Post limit - let me know when I have typed too much

Have a counter that as I type, it tells me how many characters I have left for that post. I was creating a long post, only to hit ADD and then an error message saying I was over the 5000 character limit. And my post was gone. No chance to edit it, or delete characters. I had to retype it all over again, manually counting the letters.
