Remove all duplicate and personalized Diddits from lists

Is there a way that duplicate Diddits on a list can be eliminated? Or stupid ones like "My Uncle Bob's Strawberry Shortcake" on a list of Foods? (Obviously we can't have everyone putting their own personal family's foods on there or else the lists will be tens of thousands of items long - which will drive people away).

    Hi Sarah,

    Thanks for your question!

Maintaining list quality is important to us. As you know, we open some lists up to collaboration which makes it possible to add things that "pollute" lists.

Right now, users who want to help keep the lists clean of such content can "flag" the items on the lists. Simply find the flag icon on the top area of the list and note which items are incorrect. Then I personally go in and review each flag, merging duplicate items and deleting things from lists that are actually incorrect (and making other edits as needed). Due to the user-generated content aspect of Diddit, I err on the side of caution when removing user content. However, if I get enough complaints about something questionable, I bring it up to the team for a vote on whether the content should be removed.

In the future, we may add additional ways for the community to help moderate content. The more feedback we get for a feature, the more likely we are to consider it, so if you have friends on Diddit with a shared sentiment, be sure to send them to this site to add their own feedback.

    Sarah, Adena,

Thanks for your comments. I agree with Sarah that it is frustrating to see duplicate or incorrect items on the lists, but I have not used the flag icon much in the past because on some other sites a flag means inappropriateness. i will use it more. I'm interested to see what others think about this topic too.
    Thanks,
    Amy
