Timeline keeps reverting back to an older version?
My timeline keeps reverting back to an older version, both on the main Dipity site, as well as the embedded version on my own website. The only way to fix this is to add a new event to the timeline - doing so brings the timeline back up to date. Is this something I'm doing wrong, and if so, how can I stop this from happening?

Paul,
Thanks for following up. We're working on IE8 support and there are known issues that are going to take us a couple weeks to resolve. We currently support IE7, FF3 and Safari 3 and don't explicitly support Chrome, but it's good to know it works there. You can put IE8 in to 'compatibility mode' and it should work, though we've not verified this at this time.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for giving us the heads up, we're taking a look today to see what's going on and would never want to make you look like an idiot ;)
I'll update when I have a better idea what's happening.

We're taking a look at this now. It's likely the case that the data is not actually missing, we've been making some changes to the back-end based on the first report from last week. I'll update this as soon as I have more information.

Inappropriate?I'm having a similar problem (see my bug report below) -- are you using Firefox 3?
-
Inappropriate?jreimann - yes I am using Firefox 3. Interesting to hear that its happening to other people as well...at least now I know I'm not going crazy and forgetting to "save" the timeline every time or something like that...
-
Inappropriate? We've made some changes over the past couple of days and this shouldn't be an issue.
If you're still seeing the problem can you provide links to the timelines that are having issues?

Inappropriate?Hi Derek,
I still seem to be having the problem. My timeline is located at dipity.com/obamacomma.
This really is a great product you guys have...and it's nice to see that you're around to offer support and are actively trying to improve it where you can. Thanks for your help!

Inappropriate?Hey all,
We discovered the problem this morning at 1AM, fixed it and pushed the fix out.
This shouldn't be an issue anymore, please let us know if your problem persists.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Hey, this is still an issue for us.

A full month is missing, plus some data in the past. Every single day we spend hours putting in more information, the next day, gone! Extremely disappointing.
I’m upset.

Inappropriate?Guys, I am also experiencing a major issue with this too. Either my rss feed updates instantly, but doesn't show or my tumblr account updates take ages, but show.
I am using this as a pitch and we are going to look like idiots if our feeds don't show.
I’m anxious, nervous, frustrated

Inappropriate?Derek, thanks for taking a look. Appreciate your quick response. I'm now getting the proper timeline in Chrome and Firefox, but still getting the attached in IE8

Inappropriate?Hey guys, Just wanted to give you the head's up that I'm still experiencing this problem...The timeline keeps reverting back to an older version at random. I'm able to fix it by creating a "test" or "dummy" event, and then immediately deleting it. Doing this brings the timeline back up-to-date, but it will still revert back at random.
Just wanted to let you know!
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Brett,
Thanks for the heads up, I assume this with 'obamacomma'? If not give us the url and well take a look and see what's going on.
This is obviously not as intended.

Inappropriate?Hi Derek,
Yes this is with obamacomma. Thanks for checking into it!
While I have your time, is there any way to embed the slideshow using percentages instead of a defined width and height? I'm trying to make the embedded slideshow more dynamic for any screen size or resolution on my site. Thanks!
I’m happy

Using percentages when you define for the iframe the widget should adapt accordingly.
If you get stuck you can email support @ dipity [dot] com and we'll even trouble shoot your javascript!

Inappropriate? This still doesn't work correctly in IE8 (under Windows XP SP3) : the timeline (http://www.dipity.com/ircam) loads with no events displayed, just with the standard event "just signed" (which has been changed since we uploaded data).
Yet the time scale (in our case, over 60 years) shows Dipity has some knowledge of the time span of the invisible content. Moreover, viewed in Dipity (rather than in a widget): same behavior (empty) while "show sources" indeed shows the source.
No way to make it appear in a repeatable way, sometimes it does, sometimes it does not. It draws users away (they don't see anything the first time they access the link, they go away). When we log in and edit the "just signed" event, it indeed shows its real content. When saving it, the whole timeline appears. But that doesn't work for all of those who don't have login access to our timeline.
On the other hand, in Safari, the timeline doesn't appear on load time, but a reload causes the content to appear.
I see this seems to have been open for a couple of months, do you expect to fix it soon?
Thanks!
PS: I tried uploading a 21Kb screen shot, it was refused with "Oops the image must be smaller than 2MB"...
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Hi Ircam,
Can you try running IE8 in 'compatibility mode' and see if that fixes the issue?
Also, if you have the timeline embeded in a page can you send me the link to that page? When I pull it up in Dipity, in Safar on Mac, I can see all the events, navigate etc.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?Hi Derek,
Thanks for your quick reply. Actually, I had tried it in compatibility mode, and it worked as unreliably as in normal mode.
Here is a page in which two distinct timelines are embedded: http://blog.le-miklos.eu/?p=743 (the problem occurs also when only one is displayed, and when viewing it directly in dipity.com). Sometimes both are "empty", now the top one isn't empty, the other one is, it's totally random (at least I can't see the pattern).
Note that when the timeline is "empty", clicking on the "just signed" event shows its "real" content, whether or not I am logged into Dipity.

Inappropriate?Additional info: when the timeline is empty, the "list" mode shows it correctly (none of the other modes do).
-
Inappropriate? After updating the entry above, this is what the web page displayed at the top:
I'm sorry, but an unexpected error occurred: ActiveRecord::RecordNotFound -
Inappropriate? This morning, looking at the timeline in Dipity: it once showed correctly. Now it doesn't: only the event with the logo is showing, with a date in 2010 (when editing it, it shows the right date in 2009!). And in List mode, the icon indicating it is loading data has been turning for a long time, nothing else is displayed.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?I now checked it with IE7: same phenomenon (timeline is empty, list isn't, for instance). It works with Firefox.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Ircam,
We're still digging in on this. I'll keep you posted. Thanks for bearing with us.

Inappropriate? This is the same problem I sent a couple of emails about yesterday, it seems it is not resolved yet, regardless of the browser.
