This is a question as much for other users as it is for the DS folks. Also, it may be more of a WordPress question than a dsIDXpress one, but here goes. So, I've created a custom 404 page, which includes instructions and links to direct the user to various search options. If you type in a non-existent page on my site, like http://www.intownelite.com/blah, you get that custom 404 page. However, I just noticed that if you hit on a non-existent (no longer active) listing, like http://www.intownelite.com/idx/mls-40... , you get a blank page instead of my custom 404 page. Any idea why that would be?
thanks,
Mike

It looks like your blog is loading different 404 pages for the "idx" directory vs the main site directory.
If you go here you see the "main" 404 page:
http://www.intownelite.com/blah/
If you go here you see the "idx" 404 page:
http://www.intownelite.com/idx/blah/
I have never seen this before, so I'm not sure if it's something specific to your theme or your installation or what... but you may need to toy around with your 404 customizer to update the error page used in the idx directory to match the main directory.
Good luck! -

Good observation Mike.
I thought anything under the idx directory was controlled by DS and sent back to the homepage for 404's until I tried your links.

No plugins are used, just the 404.php file. Maybe we could get an option for custom 404's for the IDX directory in the future RL!

So I wonder why your idx/blah link returns to your home page, but the expired listing page brings up your custom 404 page?

lol. I didn't even bother questioning that Mike. I fat-fingered a few pages in the IDX directory and they all went to the homepage, so I thought was the default for the plugin. Perhaps DS can get a way to over-ride 404's in the IDX directory and give us a page template option that we can point them too (just like results, details and dsagent).

It looks like this is a bug; I've sent to our developers to correct. I can't guarantee the fix will work for the Headway theme, as I know we have had some issues with the way the direct links in the past... but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help! :-)

I see that you attempted a fix for this in Version 1.1.12, thanks for that. However, the problem remains the same. (Check the links in the original post, for example.)

A big reason I haven't implemented Headway on my site is because I can't figure out how to have a different property-detail template page than the Headway default template... any ideas how to overcome that?

Hey Aaron. I was a technology coordinator with KW for 4 years and used to make the joke that "every Realtor needs a nerd".
You may be able to do a craigslist ad requesting a local wordpress nerd create a single page template for you for a small fee (it would only take them 5 minutes). Or Google for some local WP blogs and see if you can find some undiscovered talent to customize a page template or site for you.
I just found the Amazing Grace WP theme and took Jay's grid idea (that was mastercard priceless and came at just the right time) to tweak the layout. If you find a WP Real Estate site you like online, most WP nerds can tweak the same theme and allow you to bring that design to your local market.
Depending on your smoozing skills, you may be able to request a special edition of the WP 2010 theme released by DS, for DS. I could see DS scoring more new clients (especially DIY Realtors like yourself) by offering a freebie like that and give you a good foundation to tweak even further.

Aaron, there are two ways to make a layout of "leafs" in Headway. One is by "linking", and the other is to "set default leafs". Almost all of my pages but the dsIDXpress pages were made by linking them. IOW, I make one layout, then I set every other page that I want to mimic that layout to link to that first page. Then I created the leaf layout that I wanted for my dsIDXpress pages and saved that as the default leaf layout. Works fine. The only limitation is that you can't set different layouts for listing results pages vs listing detail pages. The other option is to do what @youknowrealestate said above, create what Headway calls an "old-fashioned WP template page". With that, you can select that template page in the dsIDXpress options panel, like you would in a conventional theme. The Headway guys sent me one, but I ended up not using it. I can send it to you if you want to shoot me your email address.

I wonder if this will still be an issue with the Headway 3.0 release. I'm thinking of changing my template and I like the layout flexibility of Headway. I'm waiting for their child themes market to open up. I'm hoping they'll have some "responsive" themes...

Hey Steph, as you know, I found Headway to be a total pain to work with, especially with dsIDXpress. You can't select different templates for results vs details, because Headway doesn't even use traditional WP templates. Also, on they layouts I made, the "leafs" would not stay in place on dsIDXpress pages. Total mess. Can't say if 3.0 will be any different, but I doubt it. They kept saying they were working on fixes to be more compatible with dsIDXpress, but nothing ever happend.
Also, the Headway theme is basically a blank canvas for CSS artists to make into something attractive. But if you're not a CSS expert, it looks very plain out of the box.
If you like the drag-&-drop layout flexibility, you might check out http://www.pagelines.com/ I don't know if it would be any better than Headway, but it may be worth a look. -
