How are the pages created for listings?

I am curious how the listing pages get created once you apply the short code and publish the page? For instance, If I create a page for "Denver" that would create 6000+ listing pages. Are those pages created right when you publish or when someone clicks on a listing? Where do all these pages end up in the WP installation? I am also curious about hoe the SEO works for listings.

I like to say magic but that usually doesn't work for most people. The truth is that they are dynamically created when the page is requested based on the URL. That is how we can constantly keep these pages up to date with the latest listings and details. They don't actually exist as a permanent page only as a permanent URL.

So what you're saying is that the page for a specific listing does not exist (and will not be crawled by search engines) until someone requests it?

The pages don't exist in the sense that they aren't "WordPress Pages" that you have to edit and maintain, but they're still all available on-demand on your blog to both search engines and visitors via dsIDXpress. In other words, just because you can't see them in your admin doesn't mean that they aren't all there already.

somehow they are crawled because I have found people searching for a specific MLS# in one of my towns and I am # in google. Don;t know how, but it does work.

Google this and you will see: mls 2252134

    findyourhomeli.com is my site.

    Interesting question.

I've tested a number of plugins that extend the basic search functions and features of Wordpress, including Search Everything & Search Unleashed (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/s...)

Unfortunately the ds plugin's virtual pages do not show up in search results for visitors via these tools, and many times a query of the entire url will show no results in either Google, Bing or Yahoo.

This was brought to my attention by a client who went to my site, saw a listing, wrote it down, came back later and typed it into the search box with no result.

One nice way to optimize your website for the search engines is to create a script that automatically creates a link for every listing in the entire MLS. These links are added to pages with no more than 100 per page.

Another trick is to use a plugin to build pages automatically that have a single listing shortcode installed in pages created by the plugin. Every page automatically also adds additional SEO keywords and text around the listing. So for example, your single listing page, repeats the address and MLS# multiple times. This way you can also build in a custom internal linking structure where each one of these pages has a link, embedded in the extra SEO text that points to your SEO "anchor page" for whatever keyword you are optimizing for.

The above script can be altered to create links to these pages instead of the pages created by the plugin.
