Missing Hours on iTunes
I subscribe to your podcast on iTunes, but lately only the Office of Hours has been appearing when I sync and update the podcast. Invitatory, Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, and the other hours are not appearing--even though these are available on the divineoffice.org website. Am I missing something in iTunes or are y'all just sometimes laggardly about moving things over into iTunes? (Is "laggardly" a word?) I think you're doing great work here, by the way. Many thanks!

Hi Everyone,
We are working on a solution. We have found that iTunes tries to hard to make sure that if it thinks you have already downloaded the content then it doesn't download it again and that is why deleting the podcast and resubscribing works for a little while, but the problem returns.
We are planning on trying something that will actually change various characteristics about each audio file so that iTunes will stop thinking it has already been downloaded.
This solution is actually tied to a new technology that Surgeworks (Surgeworks.com) will be launching in January and we will implement this fix shortly thereafter.
For now, I suspect Advent and Christmas should work well because it will look different to iTunes then what has been downloaded in recent weeks.
Please continue to report these problems as well as any details of this behavior.
Thanks for your patience while we overcome this issue.

Inappropriate? You are welcome and we love having you pray with us, but lets figure out how to get your podcasts updating correctly so you can stay with us :-).
I just checked my own iTunes and since I had not had it running I had to click the "GET ALL" in the podcasts area and they all downloaded. This leaves me unsure as to what is causing your problems. The one thing you can try is to click on the heading that says "Divine Office" from the podcast area in iTunes and adjust the settings by clicking on the settings button at the bottom of the iTunes window. You can specify that it checks for episodes every hour and that it should download all episodes.
I hope this helps.
I’m happy to help

Inappropriate?I think I have everything set to get the latest updates. I've noticed this in the past as well: namely inconsistency in what is available via the iTunes feed vs. what is available on the website. Sometimes (usually, maybe even) everything is there in iTunes, other times (like right now) it is hit and miss.
Right now (6/17/09 @ 3pm PDT) I am getting Office of Readings for June 17, June 18, June 19, and June 20 -- but nothing else for those dates. This is even after I right-click and select "Update Podcast" on the listing for Divine Office in my podcast area of iTunes.
I subscribe to a bunch of other podcasts as well, and haven't noticed any trouble of this sort -- so I'm inclined to believe it isn't an iTunes user error on my part (although I do find iTunes a bit quirky at times, so I wouldn't rule out that I may be missing something).
I’m hopeful
-
Inappropriate? With your experience I am sure the problem is not user error.
We do a lot of manipulation of the RSS feed because it is used as content on our web site and our iPhone app. It has been working well recently, but when there are issues like this sometimes it starts working when I ping it. I simply ping two locations:
To get feedburner to update I ping http://www.feedburner.com/fb/a/pingSu...
and then I ping Apple at
https://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/M...
These pings are built into most podcaster's blogs so they are not even aware that iTunes is being notified, but on our site we don't have brand new posts because we republish some of them according to the correct liturgical day. We had to create our own automated pinging mechanism, but I don't know if it always works.
Would you see if your content has updated to show all the podcasts for the next few days? -
Inappropriate?Still just showing Office of Readings for today through the 20th when I click on Update Podcast in iTunes .
I’m moderately flummoxed
-
Inappropriate?I have not heard from anyone else with these problems so I don't know if there is something wrong with your itunes or what. Do you know how to subscribe directly to a feed? You may, but you can subscribe directly using iTunes by going to the advanced menu and click on "Subscribe to podcast ..." then enter feed://feeds2.feedburner.com/divineoffice and if that doesn't work also subscribe to feed://divineoffice.org/feed/
-
Inappropriate?Well, I think there must have been a glitch in iTunes or something about my original subscription. I just deleted my subscription in iTunes, then resubscribed, and this seems to have solved the problem. I'm getting all the hours for several days now instead of just the Office of Readings. I guess we can just chalk it up to one of those weird things computers do.
I’m happy but not entirely unbefuddled

Inappropriate?Dane,
I have had the same issue for quite awhile - I usually have to go tot he iTunes store and manually get the missing podcasts manually. Thanks for the great service and ministry. -
Inappropriate? This is a recurring problem for me. Whenever I sync my iPod, I have to go to the iTunes Store and manually download the podcasts.
-
Inappropriate? This is a strange problem for us. For some time I have believed it was because we publish 4, 5, or 6 podcasts each day and that people would only receive the last prayer published. Is this what is happening or can you tell? Are your settings configured to download all podcasts or only the most recent? Any information you can provide will aide in our understanding so that we can rectify the problem.
I’m happy to make things work better
-
Inappropriate?I changed the download settings in iTunes. If this solves the problem, I'll post my precise settings and let everyone know how to download all relevant podcasts. Thank you, by the way, for a wonderful daily spiritual experience. God bless you all!
I’m thankful
-
OK, I changed my iTunes settings to make them as inclusive as possible. Basically, I set it to download all available podcasts and to store all of them until I erase them. Nevertheless, I'm still not receiving anything near all of the currently available podcasts. This is very frustrating, but I guess I'll just keep accessing your site via the iTunes Store and downloading the podcasts manually. -
Inappropriate? On weekends there are very few podcasts so make sure you are looking only at the weekdays. During weekdays in ordinary time you will find the following:
Invitatory Psalm
Morning Prayer
Evening Prayer
Night Prayer
On Solemnities and occasionally on feast days you will also have Office of Readings and About Today.
If you are not getting the above then what people have had success with is to delete the podcast from their iTunes and then subscribe again.
Let me know what you find so we can correct issues if they still remain.
I am sorry that it is not working correctly for you. -
I deleted the podcast then re-subscribed. My settings are to download "all episodes" but I still do not have all available podcasts downloading to iTunes. Doesn't matter what day of the week I run iTunes. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful service and well worth just going to the iTunes Store and downloading the podcasts manually. -
Inappropriate?Just so you have an update on this problem. I think we have an interesting solution and we should have it implemented in 2 or 3 weeks.
-
Inappropriate?I am experiencing this same problem, and my settings are all the same as what's mentioned here. Has that solution been implemented?
I enjoy what I hear and get! Thanks for all you're doing! -

Looking forward to this. I'm having problems with the Advent line-up...I started doing this as an Advent devotion (and I'm loving what I get, so I'll wait around!). Thanks so much!
