False negatives
A number of domains show as 'available' even though they are taken (and have valid WHOIS entries) -- PARKLABS.COM as an example.

As you can see in a few other threads, we use DNS as our indication of a domain’s registered status.
You are correct that whois is the ultimate authority on availability, but Domainr does not have access to a whois service. Domainr is a search engine reporting the best results it is able to obtain through DNS.
