Unicode Filename Support
When I upload a file with a unicode encoded filename (Chinese characters), they are stripped from the filename upon upload. This limits my ability to use Drop.io here in Taiwan, where almost all documents are named in Chinese.

Inappropriate?Unicode encoded filename support is coming, but it is going to take a few weeks (focus is elsewhere) - we agree that it is an issue and will work on it!

Inappropriate?Loosing faith ... seems to me that unicode filename support is more essential for a file-sharing service than many of the other "cool" features being added...
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate?Luhmann,
Sorry about the frustration. This is something we've been working on but as you picked up on, it had to get put aside for a while until we could devote more development time to it.
That being said, we have our team on it and will have a fix for this as soon as possible.
Essentially what is happening is that, while our website is encoded with UTF-8, our app server is stripping the text and replacing it with a dash.
We'll post a response as soon as the fix is tested and ready to go.
Thank you for your patience.
Best,
Peter F.

Inappropriate?Just here for my semi-annual checkup. Would really love to be able to use drop.io here in Taiwan... Glad to know that the issue is still being worked on.
I’m patient

Inappropriate?Affects German Umlaut characters as well... äöüÄÖÜß... and most likely french and czechoslovakian and ... almost everyone everywhere...
I’m unhappy

Inappropriate?actually - it was deployed but not announced... try it and let us know if you have issues -- it should be working, but we have not yet fully tested it

Inappropriate?Problem is solved. Minor glitch: on the start page, where one can create a new drop by uploading a file, during the uploading status display, Umlaute are still suppressed (most likely an incomplete font). The drop later on does indeed show the Umlaute in the file name, and upon downloading.
Thanks again for the uber (actually über :-) great service!
I’m happy
