Uploading (.amr) phone sound files & directly linking from Twitter
Hi there from the UK,
I want to be able to email sound files (.amr) from my phone (Sony Ericsson k800i) to my drop. The idea being that users can listen to my Twitter updates in person. However there's 2 current problems:
1) The Tweeted link only goes to my main drop page and not directly to the audio file.
2) .amr files are not recognised as audio files and therefore won't be automatically played using the built in flash player - leading to some confusion for followers who don't know they're supposed to click on the file. Also, if they don't have a suitable codec to play it.
Is there anything in the pipeline you're working on that might remedy this situation? It would be a powerful addition to mine and others Twitter streams, especially as more people are sharing photos around Twitter. I see this as one of the next big things :¬D
PS: If there's a UK phone number I can use to call my drop, please let me know! ^_^
PPS: Could I have a choice of Short URL tracking services to choose from? Like http://bit.ly or http://is.gd? Just a thought!

Inappropriate?Hey CannonGod,
The U.K. number is something that would be part of an internationalization push that we're not ready for yet. It will definitely happen but just not this moment. Incidentally, the U.K. is the 3rd largest user of drop.io, behind the U.S. (obviously) and Canada, so it's in our sights.
About the audio files, we don't allow linking directly to the file itself, meaning the link will bring you to the converted file in the Full Page view. This is our policy because it's not something we could sustain from a business perspective (http://drop.io/faq#35).
The .amr files themselves can't be played in the Flash player because they're a format that our conversion process cannot handle. This is, however, something we can address. It's on our list.
As for the tweets, they should be sending you to the Full Page view, are they not? If this is the case, there may be something up and we'll take a look at it (shoot us an e-mail with the name of your drop: contact@dropio.com).
I hope this answers all your questions.
Best,
Peter F.
