Seller beware, eBay provides no protection for sellers.
I have been selling and buying items on eBay since Nov-24-99 and currently have a feedback rating of 100%. Unfortunately I am currently having a problem with eBay and PayPal.
I recently sold a used cell phone via eBay and accepted payment via PayPal. 27 days after the buyer received the item I got an email from PayPal informing me that the buyer was claiming that the item wasn’t as described. The buyer is claiming that the phone does not work properly. Of course the email I got from PayPal was the first I’d heard of this. The buyer made no attempt to contact me and resolve the issue before filling a claim with PayPal. Within 48 hours of the claim being filed PayPal decided in favor of the buyer and informed me that upon return of the item I would refund the full amount of the auction $115.00. I immediately called PayPal to voice my concern with their findings. I told them that the phone worked when shipped and that I believe that within the 27 days the buyer had the phone he most likely damaged it. I have also emailed eBay several times with no success. They haven’t even responded. I feel as if I’ve been railroaded by PayPal and eBay. They offer no protection for sellers. I have sold several items on eBay and no buyer has ever complained that their item was not as described. Currently the phone is being shipped back to me. In the end I’ll probably end up with a broken phone and a loss of $115.
Has anyone else dealt successfully with this sort of issue? I would appreciate any advice you’ve got.

Inappropriate?I have this problem as well, and I also made a small post on another thread called eBay permits buyers to unethically steal from sellers by Steve 55. A few days after I posted my comment, eBay removed 850 of my 925 listings and they gave me no warning. They sent me an email saying that because I am dying and leaving all my money to the SPCA (Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and I mention this in my listings, they removed all my listings. This is more than four years of my work down the drain. It is hard for me to take the photos because I can't stand up for long (I'm ill and disabled) and I can't sit for long periods so writing descriptions and putting the listings up is painful for me. I built up a good feedback record and I've been with eBay since 1999. They did not email me and ask me to take any words they didn't like out of my listings, they just removed all the listings. Try to imagine losing 850 listings in five minutes. I was stunned and shocked.
I don't know if eBay representatives read these pages, but it's a little odd that this happened to me right after I posted here in the other thread. So people should be careful what they post here, I guess. I thought it was a safe forum to make comments, but maybe it isn't??
All I know is I was so stunned by what eBay has done that I couldn't stop crying and had to go to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack.
What can possibly be wrong with a dying woman (me) wanting to sell things on eBay and put as much money as I can towards the SPCA an internationally recognized animal charity???
I'd love to hear what people think.
Kathy B.W.
I’m stunned and knocked off my feet.
