Inappropriate?Sorry for the issues we had on Friday, dpickett.
The issue affected one of 6 clusters we operate. We're working with our switch vendor, Extreme Networks, to understand how our redundant switching infrastructure failed.
Please feel free to contact me directly at tmornini@engineyard.com to discuss further. Please understand that customer satisfaction is *very* important to us.

Inappropriate?Thanks for the note, Tom,
I talked to a tech regarding this. Our management team was concerned about the duration of downtime, but honestly I was more disappointed in the communication.
You brought down our database but not our app, so potential customers were hitting cached pages on entry and then hitting 500's because our database was unavailable. Putting up maintenance pages for the nodes affected probably would have been best. I think that experience probably created a lot of unpleasantness for new customers in our business where first impressions are so important. Also, an ETA and regular status of the nodes would have been great.
I'm sure you're more upset about this than we are. I'm interested in hearing about the learnings here and what's being done to eliminate this. We've been very pleased with the reliability up until this point and its become an expectation more than a bonus.
Thanks,
Dan Pickett
