Add barcode scanning
I'd like to be able to scan the barcodes on food at my local grocery store to get more info on the ingredients, food miles and other ecological information to make my purchases smarter.

Inappropriate? This is an ambitious idea indeed! Products don't need to report where they got their ingredients currently, although the USDA did just pass a law that requires some people to include "Country of origin labeling":
"The COOL regulation requires country of origin labeling for muscle cuts and ground beef (including veal), pork, lamb, goat, and chicken; wild and farm-raised fish and shellfish; fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables; peanuts, pecans, macadamia nuts, and ginseng sold by designated retailers. These commodities must be labeled at retail to indicate the country of origin." - USDA
And then there's the whole challenge of barcode scanning, which, I don't think the iPhone's current camera is accurate enough to pick up the detail required to do this.
But I will keep this idea in mind and try to think of small ways that we can get closer to making this happen.
I’m thankful
