Location awareness not accurate
I live in Milwaukee, but the auto location finder lists me in Illinois. I can't find a way to change it. It'd be nice to manually enter in zip code as an option.

This should now be fixed.
There are two ways to fix incorrect location data in the most recently released version of the app.
1) The farmers' market page now has a refresh button that allows you to re-check GPS for your most accurate location.
2) On the About tab, you can now manually set your zip code.
Let me know if this works for you guys!

The just-approved 1.01 update in the App Store (which should be available to all in the next hour or so) should fix this problem for the most part, at the cost of being a little slower at first on non GPS devices. Can you test this out and let me know how it is for you?
Thanks!

Inappropriate?I've heard this happening a couple times. The thing is, in the interest of speed, I've been taking the very first GPS coordinates that the iPhone offers (it sends a stream of ever-more-accurate pinpoints over the course of 10 seconds or so), the first of which are sometimes off by a mile or two. Since I'm mostly looking to locate you in a state, I figured that this would be good enough, but perhaps it isn't. But Milwaukee is much further than a few miles from Illinois so I'm wondering if this is another kind of problem.
Can you try opening the app a few different times to see if it ever locates you in the correct state? Some people have reported that behavior.
Assuming that this is a result of simply not getting accurate enough GPS data, I can have the app wait for a second or third reported location that is usually more accurate.
In order for me to test this over here (I'm in Seattle) can you send me your zip code or the address of a close business?
Thanks for the help, and my apologies for the error. Since you can't change your default state right now, the best way to find Wisconsin's seasonal information is to browse to the state from the State tab.
I’m sorry it's not working right

Same problem for me. I live in Portland OR area and mine is coming up in Tempe Az where I visited a few weeks ago. -
Inappropriate?Ok, a few things...
I'm not using an iphone that has gps, I have a 1st gen 8gb iphone running 2.2.1 (having a 2nd gen phone wasn't in the requirements, so I figured I was ok).
On restart, it did recognize that I was in WI (WOOHOO!). However, it doesn't pull in my farmers market info. I went to the localharvest website, so I know they have info there for my area. Again, don't know if it's not getting a specific enough area since I'm not using a phone with gps. If you want to look into my area, my zip code is 53207.
If the issue is with not having gps, I'm assuming building in the ability to manually enter the zip would resolve the issue with people who don't have a 2nd gen phone (?). Of course, I'm not a programmer, so I may be just making silly assumptions.
Thanks for your quick reply, regardless of the outcome, I appreciate what you're doing with the software.

I’m unsure

Okay, got it. Yes, I see now. Yeah, it should work with 1st generation phones, however I haven't done a whole lot of testing with it so I appreciate the feedback you're giving me.
I did verify that there are farmers' markets near you, and that they should be coming in. I'll try to reproduce it on my phone... are you simply getting the message that there are no farmers' markets near you? In the next release, I will be broadening the search from 25 miles to 100 miles, so there's a good chance that it will find farmers' markets for you even if it's slightly off on your exact location.
A couple other people have also suggested zip code lookups... it's an interesting idea and will give me some technical implementation problems, but I will strongly consider it if I can't think of an easier alternative. -
Inappropriate? This is really strange. Now it pulled in a bunch of markets, all of the ones I was expecting. So, my guess is that the last time I posted, it had my location in WI but too far away from any farmers markets to register, and now it's seeing my position more accurately. The message I had was something along the lines of "There are no markets within 100 miles of you".
Let me know if there's other feedback I can give to help.

That last comment was by me... I was just logged in as my test account. :) -
Inappropriate? No problem, thanks again for your quick response.

Inappropriate?I too have a non-GPS 1st gen iPhone... I have updated to the current version, restarted my phone yet I still have a problem with finding local markets. I first downloaded and tried the app when I was at work (which is in an urban area over an hour away from my home). Now the markets that appear in the list are near my work and will not update to show the markets near my house when I am there.
FYI - I live on the Jersey shore (central NJ) and I work in North Jersey (near NYC).
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? It's strange that the first few times I loaded the program, both the first version, and now the update, that it had me wildly off at first. After loading it 3 -4 times after, it got it much closer. This version, it first seemed to mark me around 60 - 90 miles north of actual location, but now seems to be pretty close.
I’m amused
-
Weird! I will keep this in mind and try to think of a way to bypass the sometimes strange location reporting that goes on in the iPhones. -
Ok, I'm using a second gen touch. I live in GA but pull MS. How do I get my money back? -
I live in VA, but it says I am in Iowa. This is a great app, if I can get it to work!! -
