Adding a new event
How do you add a new event to the list of events that eventtrack tracks? It's probably staring right at me out of the user interface, but I don't see it.

Inappropriate? It's actually not very obvious. If you are in Twitter, Pownce or Jaiku you can do it from there or if you have a user on eventtrack and click your name when logged in (top right) you'll see the option to add from there. Each user can create 2 events directly on the system and get full view of the stats of those events but unlimited (without stats) via one of the those 3 services I mentioned.
I’m confident

Thanks Craig.. just went and click on my name (I created a userID) and I saw the option to add new tags (areas of interest), but not to add an new event into the system. Unless there's a way to translate an area of interest into an event? I saw that EnergyCamp (just took place, I ran it with James Governor) was listed as an event. I was hoping to get Web 2.0 and Interop listed. There are a variety of tags in play associated with these events. Thanks. -
Sorry about that, James probably said he was going to kick my butt or maybe Mike did :-) my new UI had a small feature namely this one missing LOL - it's back now and you should be able to add one now easily enough. -
Thanks for responding to these inquiries craig and particularly for the customer service when you're clearly not obligated. Mike showed me this a couple of nights ago (with James present). Not sure how he ended up adding Energy Camp to EventTrack but my interest is certainly piqued as we're prototyping something here at TechWeb that's remarkably similar to EventTrack. Anyway, I went back and refresh the page, saw the link, and tried entering something but got a lot of errors. For example "Warning: array_values() [function.array-values]: The argument should be an array in /home/eventtra/public_html/lib/eventstrack.php on line 54".
So, not that you're obligated to do anything about this, but, provided the errors get worked out, can I suggest a two field form with a submit button?
Field #1: Name of Event
Field #2: searchable keywords and/or tags separated by commas.
So, for example:
Event Name: Web 2.0
keywords/tags: #w2e, #w2e_NY08
or
Right now, after entering the keyword, I couldn't find a submit button. Pressing "enter" did the trick. But a submit button would be nice. Also, just fyi, the field is showing up twice in the UI. Once top right, and once inthe middle down lower. I can send screenshots if you'd like. DM me your contact details if you want. My twitter ID is dberlind. -
Ugh! It should be the link "Add New Event" on the home page, I'll do more testing and debugging - what you mean there's finally something else out there similar to mine? I've been waiting ages, there goes my chance of partnering I guess?
Actually once the event is in place there several more detail options including tags and such the way this evolved has in some cased lead to how the UI goes from item to item hence the redesign to start getting out of that phase. -
Ah I see the double option, the main one is for the "index" so you don't even have to go to your user and the other is when you are on the user view itself will disable one. The error on line 54 is a failure to catch when a user doesn't have personal events or the just created one - thanks for the catch! Also the "Name of Event" is the event keyword itself so "w2e" instead of Web 2.0 Expo which would be added later once the event is created. -
OK I think I've worked out all the little kinks this is what happens when I try to do a relaunch after an international flight :-) thanks again for finding the bugs! -
Still getting some buggies and, as you can see, I was confused by what you said before. Based on the suggestion to use "w2e" instead of "Web 2.0 Expo" itself, I ended up creating an event called "interop_ny" instead of "Interop New York 2008". For Web 2.0 Expo in New York, I think I got it right. At some point, I clicked on the Home tab and got a string of errors again. One thing I noticed is that when I went back in to edit the event (not easy to find that link, but I found it), I couldn't change its name or delete it and any information that I originally keyed into the form (eg: tags) was not there for editing. Regarding the partnership question, our prototyping involves a combination of tools and presentation. I'm pretty open in terms of what tools we use since, so far, nothing does exactly what we're looking for and ultimately, we may have to work more closely with a variety of developers like you to customize this functionality to our liking. Please email me at dberlind AT techweb DOT com and we talk a bit more about this. -
The edit link should be easier now, oversight again on my part. As for the deleting I've not added it on purpose. And the "keyword" used to create is also the unique identifier so changing it doesn't work either - these are choices on my part. As for the data in the other fields not being present that is odd I've just tested 12 events randomly and the data was present?
As for the rest I'll drop you an email. -
What string of errors did you get when clicking on home? -
Inappropriate? So it should not be quite easy and obvious to add new events and the UI issues should all be worked out now.
I’m happy
