You can search a mounted drive on the commandline using find, but not with spotlight [currently]

Although it wouldn't be too difficult for us to "enable" spotlight support, the amount of overhead that would incur would be enormous. If you've ever seen the 'mds' process on your mac chew up a ton of resources, that's the spotlight indexer. Imagine that running over a MUCH slower network connection.
