Cannot use Amazon S3
I am trying to use ExpanDrive with my Amazon S3 account. I get an error when I try to add any documents or folders to the connected drive, "The operation could not be completed because you do not have enough access privileges."

Inappropriate?sethm - have you created any buckets in S3 yet? currently there is no way to do that from finder, but if you run 'mkdir' from the commandline, it will correctly create it. However, it's important to point out that bucket names are unique throughout all S3, so you'll have to pick something other users have not
We're working on adding this into the drive manager now

Inappropriate?I too can connect to S3 but see only the 3 root-dirctories empty! Connecting with transmit shows all content, but expandrive didn't!
Any hope? This is using 10.5.6 and expandrive 2.0.1
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?I get:
"The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data could not be read or written. [Error Code -36]
Even with the Current update of Expandrive, using the most current OS X -
Inappropriate?Benjamin - have you already created S3 buckets? Could you try using a "Clean" bucket and see if the problem persists?

this solves the problem

Inappropriate?Jeff, Can you explain a little more about how to create a "clean" bucket? Thanks
-
mostly i mean a "new" bucket. Currently the only way to create a new bucket in expandrive is using mkdir from the terminal, you could do something like 'mkdir /Volumes/S3/Glioma_ExpanDrive' or something to try it out -

A bucket is what you store things in on S3, consider it as one "giant folder"
I would recommend using some other S3 client, like Transmit/S3 Hub to create a bucket on S3, then you can use ExpanDrive to access that bucket like a drive.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I also have this problem, though I'm able to make a new "bucket" using terminal I can't use the bucket. I'm unable to copy files into it using finder/expandrive. Additionally I'm unable to view files I've copied into a bucket using an FTP client's S3 interface (ForkLift). Please advise. I get an error code "-36" "Some data could not be read or written"
I’m frustrated
-
John - Sorry about that. With Forklift, can you read and write correctly to the bucket in question? A little confused on what you were saying
Thanks
-Jeff -
Yes I'm able to upload/download from the bucket using Forklift but am unable to do either, or view the file, in the Expandrive drive image. -
I am finding the same thing. I can upload a file with Forklift, but Expandrive gives me errors consistently. For now, I am staying with Jungledisk. -
Inappropriate?I have to use another paid app to use Expandrive? Neither Transmit or Expandrive gets the job done in 1 shot with S3? (can i use CyberDuck for free to do the same?)
This whole set up seems very Beta. I hope it gets easier to use in the future. It's not what Mac users are used to.
I’m bummed
-
Inappropriate?I had the same "permissions" problem as everyone else with adding files to S3 via Expandrive. I followed the recommendations of creating a new bucket on S3 via transmit and that solved the issue.
This got me off to a rough start with a new product I had hopes for making my life easier. Expandrive has too figure this part out (make it easy) for the user in their application quickly.
I’m wishing you would make it easier.
-
Inappropriate?I've already given up on this product. Cyberduck did the trick and is free.
I’m seeya

Inappropriate?I have created a new bucket and I can use it with other programs. When I try to connect using ExpanDrive it is not working. Is it a bug or I am doing something wrong.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?Antonio, just to make sure, are you using the Mac version of ExpanDrive? Because the Windows version does not yet support S3.
If you are using the Mac version, then something is amiss. Are you setting the “Remote Path” field in the drive configuration? If you do not set it, then ExpanDrive should connect and show you a directory with your bucket in it. If you do set it, make sure it is correctly set to your bucket name. -
Inappropriate?Jon
I am using ExpanDrive mac version. I have filled correctly all the fields. It is still not working.... Strange since with another programs (S3Hub and Cyberduck) it works perfectly
. any advice ?
