Can't mount drive with spaces in remote path in 1.3.3+MacFuse 2.0.2
Hey, there -- I mount some drives (via SSH) with spaces in the Remote Path, and after the update to 1.3.3/MacFuse 2.0.2 from 1.3.2+MacFuse 1.x, the drive will no longer mount. I get an almost immediate error dialog: "Drive_Name isn't a valid drive". Also after attempting to connect once to a drive with this problem, I can no longer save changes when editing the drive properties in the Drive Manager, the save and connect buttons are disabled.
In troubleshooting, I tried enclosing the whole path in single quotes, also double quotes, escaping the space with a preceding \ and escaping with URL encoding - %20 in place of the space. Only in the last case (URL encoding for the space character) did ExpanDrive attempt to connect, and then fail because the path didn't exist.
Not sure if it's 1.3.3 or MacFuse 2.0.2 that's the cause, but it appears to be a failing upon checking or encoding the remote path prior to actual connection attempt.
I have a temporary workaround - renaming the directory that I am connecting to (specifically /Volumes/iTunes HD/ ) which in this case requires renaming the physical partition mounted on the remote system to a name without spaces, and that connects.
Anyway, hope this information helps. Thanks for a great product.

ExpanDrive 1.3.4 is out! It fixes all known crashers, and a few other bugs we found in the process, including Remote Paths with spaces. Sorry about the trouble everyone.

Inappropriate?Hi Jeff. Thanks for the report. I’m very sorry for the trouble. I believe this is related to another issue we’re seeing in 1.3.3, and I’m very actively working on a fix. I hope to be able to push it later today.
I’m working on it.

Inappropriate?I'm having a similar problem but I am not sure if it is the same. I have a path that looks like this:
/Volumes/Central LaCie1TB - Mirror/Archives/
ExpanDrive keeps telling me that the path is invalid and crashes. But within Leopard Server, I can manipulate this path from the command line and in finder without trouble.
Is this the same thing?

Rick Cogley

I'm using the latest 1.3.3 by the way. -
Inappropriate? Thanks much, Jon! I appreciate it. Please let me know if you need any additional info on this one or if you need a tester for the fix.
Thanks,
Jeff
I’m thankful.

Inappropriate?Jon,
Any luck in getting a fix for this?
I just auto-updated to 1.3.3 & MacFuse 2.0.3 and am having the same issue as Jeff.
I'm also willing to help test the fix when you've got something ready to put into the real-world for testing.
Thanks.
Cheers,

Inappropriate?Hi Jon - any word on this? Right before this happened we pushed this out to a group of 10 users, who are now thinking "it doesn't work". Besides the paths, ED seems unstable, and won't refresh views properly. You have to kill ED and restart it, to get your drives back...
Hope a fix is imminent...
Thanks,
Rick
I’m frustrated, with a group of unimpressed users (I like Expandrive and want it to work!!)

Inappropriate?Hi Rick,
I’m really sorry about the crashes you’re seeing in 1.3.3. It wasn’t our greatest release. I have a beta out right now that seems to fix the crashes, and which correctly handles drives with spaces in their “Drive Name” (at least on my system). Some users are reporting that occasionally a drive will fail to mount until ExpanDrive is restarted, and I’m actively working on solving this issue. I hope to have it solved very soon.
The latest beta is available here:
http://download.expandrive.com/1.3.4b...
Again, I whole heartedly apologize for the trouble.
I’m working hard at making things better

Inappropriate?Thanks Jon. We'll give it a try.
For the record, we're consistently seeing the failures to mount. The drives look like they are mounted, after some time has passed, but they don't respond normally. You have to kill it and restart to get the normal responsiveness.

Inappropriate?Hi Jon - alas, the paths with spaces thing does not work yet. When I reinstall using the beta, confirming that it is the beta in Expandrive About, I cannot mount:
/Volumes/MyServer LaCie1TB - Mirror/Archives
ExpanDrive crashes and I have to restart.
FYI,
Rick

Inappropriate?I'm not sure whether I have the same problem or not, but Expandrive won't accept remote paths with spaces in them. I want to mount "/export/home/username/My Documents/" to "/Volumes/Docs", for example. I tried entering the remote path as above, and with backslash-escaped spaces ("/export/home/username/My\ Documents/"), neither way works. Would upgrading to the beta solve that problem or does it only fix spaces in local mountpoints?
-
Inappropriate?claus, I fixed the space-in-remote-path issue this morning. I’m doing a final round of testing right now, and barring an unforeseeable catastrophe, the fix will be in our 1.3.4 release later tonight.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?Jon - that's good news. Looking forward to trying 1.3.4.

I’m tentatively confident!

Hi Jon - I downloaded this and installed it, but the same problem is there. That said, the version looks to be 1.3.3 still. This could be a problem w/ the way I installed or with the zip itself? -- Rick Cogley -
Inappropriate?Jon that path you cite is linked to .3 not .4.
For everyone's info, you can just use the link to the latest on this page:

And, it works!

Thanks for the heads up, just fixed that!
