Copy Web URL
One thing I'm deeply longing for, is a way to copy the web links for files on my server using ExpanDrive.
I wish there was a context menu item that said something like "Copy Web URL". Perhaps this functionality could be included as an optional install from the Preferences, just as the command line tool "expan" is.
Some (more or less) competing apps that comes to mind hosting this functionality, would be Transmit, Yummy FTP and FileChute. Since these apps are more non-Finder-like in their nature/interfaces, they naturally don't use Finder's context menu for this, as the feature is accessed from within the programs themselves. But I think ExpanDrive would really benefit of using this (context menu) method, letting users easily drop a file, wait for upload, and then choose to copy the actual web link to the file, for quick sharing.
This would be the tipping point for me, to have ExpanDrive run permanently on my machine, and it would fill a dire need in my workflow.
Thanks,
Henrik

Inappropriate?Hey guys, I'm really looking forward to this feature. Just this morning I wrote a script to handle this for me, but ideally this should be part of the application itself. Please push this out in an update as soon as you get it working!
Here was my "idea:"

Inappropriate?Yes Yes.
At the moment I use an extra php script to detect the http url of a file uploaded via ftp. bit tricky because these paths usually are not the same and need to be defined manually (root path).
great it would be...

Inappropriate? This would be *the* best feature I can think of. Right now I'm using Dropbox purely for the ability to quickly copy+paste URLs to uploads. But I'd much rather use my own server.

Inappropriate?+1
I tried to use ExpanDrive's AppleScript Support to script such a feature but it seems like you can't access any properties ...
It would need three things: a FTP base directory, a HTTP base directory and the route to the selected file.
Adding all 3 together makes the http:// address (http base + route to selected file - ftp base = http adress) -
Inappropriate? This feature is coming, almost certainly in our next release. All the technical bits are implemented. The only thing we’re still working on is how to add it to the GUI. Basically, we need to let the user specify a URL template, and a remote path to the server’s web root directory. Our only thought right now is to add an “Advanced Options” disclosure arrow to the drive configuration panel, but that seems a little kludgy to me.
If anyone has any ideas they like better, please let me know.

Inappropriate?Something like they do in ForkLift would be good. (they have a TabView and there exists an Advanced Tab). That seems pretty straight forward to me.

Inappropriate?Am I missing something in saying, there's already the Server: field and Remote Path: field that you need to fill in when creating a new connection — wouldn't that be enough (presumably just the address provided in the Server: field) for a proper web URL reference to be generated? I'm super tired after a week's duty at my son's kinderkarten, so I may very well be missing something crucial here. :)

Inappropriate?I wrote a little AppleScript to Copy Web URL to Clipboard. Maybe that's helpful in the meanwhile until ExpanDrive implements that feature (Could be useful for other users as well. Does ExpanDrive have a blog or something?):

Inappropriate?I made an Automator Workflow which let you upload a file to FTP using ExpanDrive. It then copies the URL of all files to your pasteboard.
Needs to be configured! See in script!!!
