MS Office "owner files" (~$) not processed correctly...
When an MS office app opens a file on a network drive it creates an "owner file". This filename is the same as the original document with the first two characters replaced by "~$".
This facilitates the "document is opened by another user" message, and gives you the open in read only option.
When using a mapped WebDrive and opening a .doc file on one PC, then trying to open the same .doc on a different PC with another copy of WebDrive / mapped drive the "already open" dialog does NOT appear..
I have checked the ftp server and the file is created, so WebDrive is working as far as creating the "owner file". I've also checked with SysInternals filemon, and it looks as though Word is also READing the owner file, however for some reason it's ignoring it / not treating it as if it was located on a standard (smb/etc.) mapped drive.
Any ideas? This is important and depends on if I buy a multi-user license for use at a client site..
