REALLY really slow performance
I'm using ExpanDrive to connect to an SFTP server. It often takes 20-30 seconds for a directory listing, causes the finder to hang, takes 30+ seconds to save a file, etc. On more than one occasion, ExpanDrive has caused the finder to crash.
I've tried connecting from a "standard" SFTP client and response time is very quick. This indicates that the problem is with ExpanDrive.

Inappropriate?Noah - we're real sorry you're having trouble. A "standard" SFTP client doesn't have to perform nearly as many operation as ExpanDrive does - in fact, ExpanDrive is entirely at the mercy of finder. Whatever finder wants, we need to give to it. We cache and service thousands of requests without going to the network, but sometimes that isn't enough. What sized directory listing are you looking at? What is your connection like?

Inappropriate?I'm a bit bemused by the performance too. I downloaded the trial version yesterday.
What can affect the speed of directory listings, etc? I've tried a bunch of different FTP/SFTP connections (some with large numbers of listings, others with < 10) and it's invariably painfully slow compared to Transmit.
I'm running 10.5.7 on a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo iMac with 3 GB RAM (and a 10Mb DSL connection), and when I try to mount a remote drive ExpanDrive beachballs the Finder for 2-3mins (supremely annoying). It can then take 30s+ to get a directory listing (which causes beachballing again). Once again, Transmit is blindingly fast in comparison.
I really like the idea of ExpanDrive and would love to find a native-ish replacement for Transmit - I particularly love the idea of being able to use TextMate with mounted remote directories.
Is there anything I can do at my end to improve performance?
Cheers,
John
