Inappropriate? We don't currently have access to the Windows 7 beta, sorry guys. email support@expandrive.com if you want to help out!
-
Inappropriate?Ok yep i understand this, Windows 7 public beta is January the 9th
-
Inappropriate?Apparently I did not see this question, sorry for reposting. To add to this, it also doesn't work with the ExpanDrive beta 2.0.
Beta can now be downloaded from MS for free.
-
Inappropriate?I just did some testing with the latest beta
http://www.expandrive.com/expandrive/...
and it seems to work fine. The key, is that after installation quit the installer - don't run ExpanDrive from "Open ExpanDrive." Launch it after the installer has quit. We'll fix this soon

Inappropriate?I have followed your instructions, quiting the installer, then starting expanddrive and i get the following error
"Expandrive was unable to contact the Expandrive driver."
"Please try rebooting, or ask a administrator to re install Expandrive"
i have experienced this on 32bit and 64bit Windows 7 beta -
It's funny, YESTERDAY, just yesterday I was up and running without issues using the LATEST beta expandrive as well as Win 7 build 7000. then TODAY i got exactly the same error as you did Lloyd.. then, using Jeff's advice:
1. Uninstall ExpanDrive
2. Reboot
3. Install ExpanDrive - don't run expandrive upon completing installation
4. Run ExpanDrive
It let me install Expandrive, now it complains that it can't open the network location. Is there some other trick or is it just my wonky hardware? -
Inappropriate?I would try the latest beta, if you haven't already
-
Inappropriate?I did just try it, using the link you gave above
-
Inappropriate?Thanks Lloyd -
Our Windows 7 support obviously isn't ready for primetime. If you're willing to take another shot, this would be my recomendation
1. Uninstall ExpanDrive
2. Reboot
3. Install ExpanDrive - don't run expandrive upon completing installation
4. Run ExpanDrive
I imagine that'll work - I just verified it on 32 bit - but like I said, our testing coverage on 7 is very minimal right now

Jeff is there something else I need to do to get expandrive functional? I just responded to Lloyd's message about his problem with the network location not being available. I tried your suggestion of re-downloading the latest epandrive, installed it, rebooted, tried running, same issue, can't find the network location. Is there a specific way one needs to have their network settings set in order for this proggie to work? The sad thing is it worked just great yesterday and now today it crapped out on me. -
Joseph - it seems there is still an issue. The problem you're having seems to be when you run ExpanDrive as admin, or as some user other than the one you're currently logged in as. Is your Windows 7 account an admin account? -
Jeff, that is correct, my user account is an administrator. No other accounts were set up on the machine as of yet. -
Jeff, I believe I just solved it (and I forgot about this yesterday) I was playing around with user account control and apparently turned it off, and then sometime between my last usage of Expan Drive and now I turned UAC back on. Turning UAC OFF completely solves the problem for me and using Expan Drive.. I'm back in business!! -
Fixed it, all the way!
No need to muck with the UAC settings

Hi Jeff.. I haven't had a chance to install 1.8.2 till today. I did, but it still failed to create a functional drive share with UAC at it's default settings. I turned UAC off again and it was fine. But then I thought about when you asked if me if my acct was set up as an Administrator so the next piece of info may be helpful to many users who MIGHT have an issue like mine; I reconfigured my user account to be just a standard user account (UAC is left on, in it's default setting) and now I can access the drive share. p.s. if you can't change your account to a Standard User in the User control panel, then you'll need to adjust it manually in Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups (look on the left hand side of the CM screen) -> Users -> (your user acct) -> double click your user, -> Member of -> click Add, -> then type Users in the box, press enter. I deleted the Administator group from the profile just to be sure nothing was conflicting, and then reboot the machine. Note this may just be my particular configuration, but it's worth a shot for anyone else dealing with a testy administrator setup. -
