I'd like to hide some photos from random browsing, but I still want to show them in the context of the album(s) they are in. A per image confine-to-album setting.
Most of us has a lot of photos from some happening that are interesting to some, but not necessarily all others. The nature of the photos does not mandate restricted access, but it would be nice to avoid "polluting" the photostream with a lot of similar images.
For example, I'm doing a project now taking a lot of similar photos over a year. I'd like to spare people browsing my photo-stream only a few of these and confine-to-album most of the photos. If people do go into the right album, they will see all of the public photos there.
Also, this setting will not affect linking to these photos from other places on the net, or listing under favorited, rated, uploaded, commented and other views. Only browsing (any layout) of my photostream is affected.
This feature would be useful also for creating albums with a series of photos where the photografer has a strong opinion on the context of the photos.

The idea behind the photostream is to show the most recently uploaded photos regardless of context.
What you would like to have, is a high quality "featured" photostream with photos that may interest a broader audience. Not a bad idea!
Today the "quality/interesting"-filter is done automatically based on privacy. For example, if you shoot a family birth day, you probably have a custom privacy on those photos making them disappear from the photostream for most people, thus making the photostream more tailored towards its viewers.
Your solution is to "opt-out" selected photos from the stream by flagging each photo. Another solution would be to "opt-in" photos based on properties to a stream,a smart album (live updatable albums based on queries). Something we've had planned for since the birth of expono, but have still not implemented. Yea, it's not THE photostream, but it all depends of how we would make such a custom stream accessible to the user/viewer.
Technically, we would like to keep the photostream work the way it works today, hence not adding more "required" flags to the filtering (if possible). But from a user perspective, confine-per-album, may be the best most simplest way?
Hmm.. well, we need to think more about this.
Thanks for your valuable input :-)

processing....
I've added this to our ticket system. We will take a look at it in the coming weeks.
Yes, it's fairly easy to implement, but it has a much broader impact on the system than one might think. However, everything is doable and you won't see any difference as an end user. Ping me again in a couple of weeks (if I don't pickup the thread) and we'll fix this :)-
ping :o) -have you had a look at this now?

I think the concept is really easy to communicate, and probably cheap to both implement and process.
The most important reason for this wish is that the photostream seems to be the main context for exploring and viewing photos on expono. An album is merely a featured tag, with an option to view the content as a slideshow. So improving the stream, without completely tossing away a lot of images, really makes sense to me.
For those that does not want to use this feature, their photostream will still be as expected. I really hope you will implement this.
