When Expono first debuted I was very excited. Expono seemed to have all the features I'd been looking for in an online photo sharing site. Unfortunately I soon found that when uploading photos my web browsing takes a major hit and becomes almost unusable (I live in a rural area and can only get very slow DSL). I can't have that as I use the internet for work. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for alternative online photo sharing/backup services? My biggest requirement would be some sort of bandwidth throttling (similar to Mozy or BlackBlaze) so I'm assuming the service would have to have released some sort of uploader app.
I'm dreading the move to a new service because I already have quite a few albums and photos uploaded to Expono but as a Pro member I have until August to find something else so I have a little time. I don't want to leave Expono as the rest of the service suits my needs quite nicely. I just can't justify the time it would take to upload my photos (because I can't use the internet while uploading to Expono).
BTW, I'm on an Intel iMac running Snow Leopard.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry to hear that you are looking for alternatives to Expono. I still can't really figure out why because the bandwidth problem would be there regardless of which service you choose.
You should look for a bandwidth throttle software that can handle any application.
Have you tried uploading photos using any of the available plugins (iPhoto, Aperture, etc)?
Expono Third-Party Plugins, Tools and Software
Maybe you can get a better experience using one of them? Or even better, you could for example bandwith throttle iPhoto and upload via the iPhoto plugin.
Happy Easter!-

Hi Magnus. I've tried the iPhoto plug in and it works great except my bandwidth takes a major hit just like if I upload with Expono uploader.
I downloaded and tried Picasa which does have a "conserve bandwidth" option and it seemed like it helped a little.
You're right in that I only have x amount of bandwidth but if there were a way to throttle just uploading my images (through Expono or a plug in) I can still continue to work. Mozy has client software that allows me to set the maximum bandwidth I want it to use when I'm working on my Mac. This makes it possible to both back up my Mac online to Mozy as well as continue to work using the internet without slowing it way down.
Do you have any suggestions for bandwidth throttling software for the Mac? I've never heard of any. -

I haven't tried it myself, but maybe this bandwidth throttle app can help you
