Some rudimentary presentation/ordering of Albums
Not all public albums are created equal. I have 400 images publicly viewable now, only a tiny fraction of which might be of any interest to people who doesn't know me. I want to separete my public albums into one of at least two categories, and give an order and presentation of each category. My first two categories would be "possibly interesting" and "probably not even slightly interesting unless you are, or know, me", others will have their own categories.

I'm not sure I know what you are looking for.
You can have two type of public albums with almost the same photos and different sort order.
But, you want to have two different types of presentation modes in an album, with two different sort orders?-

No! Well, that might be cool too, but that was not what I meant now. :o)
I was thinking about the page where my Albums are listed. There they are listed in order of creation, with the most recently created album listed first. I want to group some albums to list first, in a separate section on the top, and give that group a caption: "Possibly generally interesting photos", and then I want to have a separate group below the first one, with another caption: "Probably only interesting if you know me". Others will want to have more album groups, and other captions.
I'd also like to be able to order and reorder the albums within each group, but that's less important.
Was that clearer, you think? -

Perfectly, clear. It's one of my personal feature requests as well.
You want "Album Collections". The ability to create a collection, give it a name, decide which albums to be included in the collection. Decide how the album page, displays and groups collections. It's been discussed back and forth and the reasons it doesn't exist is because of low pri.
BUT, when the current release finally goes live (on Tuesday). There will be a bunch of announcements and changes the following days. Let's have a look at it then :) -

Yes, and in the first incarnation, the feature set does not have to be complete, just enough for some grouping of the albums.
I look forward to the update! Are you going to announce the changes prior to, or after, the update is rolled out? -

The rollout will be in two parts. First one being on Tuesday. Then another one a couple days after. We need to make sure everything works. We got some big changes under the hood that need to tried "live" (related to single-signon, api updates)
That's one of the reasons the downloader will be in "beta" for a few days.
The changes will be announced after the update.
Here are some:
- 700M+ can log right in. Supporting, Google Accounts, Windows Live ID, Facebook, Twitter, etc
- Many small UI improvements. (clearer album titles, etc)
- Improved User Page (ex expono.com/magnus)
- Improved Sharing (we are not done here, but its better)
- The people you share to, can comment, rate, favorite without being logged in. They also have their own profile.
- Security improvements (one of my key requirements for the downloader)
- Twitter OAuth Support
- API Updates
- Simplified Chinese.
- Bugfixes -
