Why doesn't the "related FAQ" link show up on the Public Side?
Why don't the "related FAQ's" links that are created in the FAQ Wiki not show up for the pubic? Our CoP has been answering our FAQ's in Knowledge Base fashion where we include supporting FAQ's to help the user (we didn't realize it wouldn't go to the public side). It is too manually difficult to code these by hand. It would be helpful to client to the self-education process to see the related FAQ's. Eliminate some of the return questions.

Hi Amy, Shane.
It's a long, long, long standing oversight. There was work done dating back to May 2007 to show related FAQs (provided that the related FAQs were also published). And somewhere going into the National launch, it never quite was put into implementation.
We'll certainly get this implemented - it's now recorded as Issue #724 and Issue #725 in our issue tracking system, and as soon as we get this merged "Initial Release" out the door, I'll make sure that it gets done soon thereafter.
I don't know that you'll see much return on this. Observationally, most folks just don't click on related items, or browse much to begin with. They search, land on the page, read what's there, and keep going. I don't know that it's either going to eliminate return questions, or that it's going to engage folks. They might work better as contextual links in the body of the answer itself (I do fully realize that suggesting that means we need to create some kind of markup to link to another FAQ in the answer and have it survive the publishing processing from faq.extension.org to www.extension.org :-) ) But even then, surprisingly folks don't click those either.
But even that said - your group has gone through this effort to create these data relationships, the data is being provided to the pubsite application, and just not getting processed and it certainly will serve those that are curious enough to browse for more information "in the footnotes" of the FAQ - and it should have been there back in May of 2007 - so we'll definitely get it back in the application again and working.
I’m happy to say this will get implemented soon.

Inappropriate?I agree with Amy. A few thoughts I had...
1. Providing the links would allow the concept of the knowledge base to function in a much more effective way than expecting users to search again to find related information. The inability to link to easily link to another FAQ using the info we already input to the system removes one of the main advantages of having an online system for housing information.
2. Providing the links would keep the user more engaged in the site. If they don't find it in the the answer to their question in first search results, they may leave the site altogether. They would be more likely to stay and continue to use the site if they could follow the related links to see if other FAQ's would answer their question, or simply to learn other about additional ideas related to their interests.
I’m confused

Inappropriate? Thanks for the response. I think as a CoP we were in that original group that thought the related links showed up to the public. So, of course we've been trucking along without checking. In our planning and minds, we have been answering with that in the back of our minds and shortening our answers if a related link existed.
We will look forward to that functionality. I use it quite a bit in other KB and have really liked having it for my own searching. I like the aspect of a web of answers.
I’m happy it is still on the que

Inappropriate?Hi Amy, Shane,
This has now been fixed, and released. You can see an example at http://www.extension.org/faq/29926 (the first one I picked that had related answers).

Inappropriate?I like the fix! That's really what we had hoped for. Now it will be easy to attach related answers!
I’m really glad with the fix!
