Disabled account Last reply on February 03, 2008 19:57.

I am wondering if anyone can give me some ideas on what to do.
On Monday I sent a note to Customer Support at Facebook notifying them about a particular scam. They thanked me for the information, but then proceeded to disable my account. I was sent this message:

    Hi,

We can look into this matter, but your account has been disabled. Unfortunately, Facebook accounts are for individual use only and cannot be used by multiple parties. Email addresses are offered for free by many websites (e.g. gmail, hotmail, etc.). We apologize for any inconvenience. Let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks for contacting Facebook,

    Diego
    User Operations
    Facebook

The email address the account is linked to is used by both my husband and myself. I asked them for an explanation, made mention of the fact that this is not the first time I have ever contacted Customer Support so why the sudden change of heart and sent them relevant portions of the Terms of Service and Additional Terms of Service which clearly show I am not in violation. I was sent another reply late last night (I am only getting one reply a day and there is no phone number I can call). Apparently only one of us can use the account. This reply doesn't make any sense. Not only am I the only one using the account, but there is nothing in the Terms of Service which states only one person must use the account. Furthermore, according to the Additional Terms of Service it is clearly possible to created Facebook pages for groups.
    I have emailed
    info+ngqrvqs@facebook.com
    disabled@facebook.com,
    login@facebook.com,
    comment-info-rt@facebook.com,
    appeals@facebook.com
Does anyone have any other suggestions?

    Edit: Dec, 21, 2007, 10:30AM EST
So, my account was reinstated. Overall, it wasa rather strange experience. Facebook &Co. drastically need to improve their customer service.

What is with all the accounts bein disabled, even when they don't do anything wrong? Do they not want people to use Facebook?

I removed my login e-mail address from facebook and can no longer access my profile! Last reply on January 31, 2008 23:15.

I had 2 addresses on the account so I presumed my login would default to the 2nd address, which it hasn't.

I tried to reset the password using the secondary address, which has just created a totally new profile! I have e-mailed facebook several times, but they just keep resetting the password for the new profile, which obviously doesn't help me access my original profile!

Is there any way to reinstate the original login e-mail?

    Many thanks!

You can download a CSV file of your Facebook friends! Last reply on January 04, 2008 00:25.

Download your friend list in CSV format.
Brought to you by Dan Birdwhistell and Ben Sinclair

Do it NOW before your account gets disabled so you at least aren't completely cut-off from your network.

    Here's the "about" page.

I'm leaving Facebook 4ever! Wanna come with? Last reply on December 07, 2007 15:24.

I'm done with Facebook. I've never really seen the value in it (except Scrabulous, perhaps) and I am getting increasingly uneasy about handing over so much information to them. The recent Beacon debacle was revelatory. So I'm saying goodbye.

But guess what! You can't just go to the site and delete it, you can only *deactivate* it. So I wrote customer service and found out how to delete your account:

"If you want your information removed from our servers, we can do this for you. However, you need to first log in, delete all profile content, and deactivate. Once you have cleared your account, let us know, and we'll take care of the rest. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

If you have been finding Facebook increasingly invasive and decreasingly useful, please join me for a Facebook event: "Leave Facebook 4ever!" this Friday, Dec. 7 at noon.

    Here's the invite ;-)

Better metrics for Facebook applications! Last reply on December 04, 2007 20:13.

Right now, the only metric for "success" for a Facebook app is number of installs. I'd love to see some other ways to understand which apps Facebook customers actually value -- like, say, time spent using the app per session, or over a period of time.

Anybody else have any ideas about what would make for a good Facebook app metric?

Is facebook a fad? When will it die?

Nothing makes me cringe quite like the phenomenon of e-social networking. In my ideal world, the internet revolves around the anonymous exchange of information, not listing "sex partners" and a desperate sounding biographies... I understand it's nice to "keep in touch" with friends. But isn't that why I have AOL instant messenger, g-talk, gmail, a cell phone with orgasmic amounts of minutes and unlimited text messaging? I have never had a facebook and hopefully, I never will. Myspace is the new Friendster, and I'm ashamed to have participated in both. What's left of my myspace (that I haven't deleted out of sheer laziness) has been eaten alive by porn-robot hyenas and flesh-eating spam viruses.

Am I nitpicking? Should I just blindly participate in this strange yet accepted invasion of privacy? I know nothing about Facebook, but I hear that it features many 19-22 year old girls in sweatpants.

Do you think this is a fad? If it has "staying power", is it the type of "staying power" that the stalker in your bedroom closet has?

Facebook App pages should include a space for info about the app

I often get a direct link to an app page from a friend which just takes me to a page with a button to download the app but does not tell me what the app does or is about. I wish these App download pages had a space for a brief description of the app so I didn't have to go hunting for it.

I cant seem to use Facebook to show examples of my work that I want to show as many people as possible. Surely Facebook has a section for this?
