When the conversation stops - Facebooks indifference to people who aren't Robert Scoble Last reply on May 31, 2008 09:43.

In the November 2007 issue of Fast company, Mark Zuckerberg was quoted as saying "Facebook users are more engaged with each other. Aren't you more likely to be interested in what your friends are doing".

Nice sentiment, however the reality is that if you are too engaged with your friends then your Account will be disabled.

Why do they claim to be a social network tool, yet when you network with others they ban you.

I received an email on 27th may to warn me that i'd been misusing their service and that misuse "may" result in your account being disabled.

I was sending a number of messages to friends etc which breached a threshold (I couldn't find what this threshold was). sure I saw a pop-up advising that I was sending a lot of messages to friends however it didn't indicate any limits etc that i'd broken or how many more messages I could safely send.

I attempted to use my account again and it's been disabled. From warning to disabled in one fell swoop.

I wasn't spamming people I was batting messages backwards and forwards with people I know, discussing things, you know social stuff.

Can I get a response to my emails sent to warning@facebook.com or press@facebook.com or privacy@facebook.com or info@facebook.com ? No replies from a single person within their Company.

There are two sets of users as seen by Facebook. Their are the likes of Robert Scoble and their is everyone else. Robert Scoble aka scobleizer ran an automated script against the Facebook databases to retrieve data about his friends. This was a blatant breach of their terms of use and he was banned immediately. His account was re-instated pretty quickly after her created a real stink in the blogosphere and across the Net about his treatment at the hands of Facebook. It seems a bit unfair doesn't it that the ordinary person who wants to use Facebook is penalised for not being as well connected as Robert.

I have checked the terms of use and conduct pages and have found absolutely nothing which would indicate that conducting regular conversations with my friends etc. will result in accounts being disabled.

Why would a Company have a feature that they want you to use and then not tell me exactly what those limits are?

I feel that more and more people who use Facebook will become inactive or passive users of the site because of the issues I have described.

Would they rather people moved social conversations away from facebook and left it to people to throw sheep at each other instead?

Can I get my FB account back?? Please help!

I joined FB a few months ago and at the time I was home schooled so there was no network I could join. Somehow I joined some school and soon a warning came up saying my account would be terminated. By then I moved on to a traineeship. I tried many ways to fix my network and joined the Australia one hoping that would work. Then last night my account was terminated and I emailed them explaining the situation. They then said that their decision was final.

Is there any hope? I have lost everything and it's taken ages to build up if I can't get this one back I am giving up on FB all together. They are treating me like I've done something wrong and it was a complete accident.

I have never felt so screwed in my life.

My two-plus year old Facebook account was disabled last week suddenly and I did not understand why until I received an email saying that I had exceeded the number of permitted messages in a short amount of time. I was messaging American Bar Association law student leaders who like me were just appointed to positions by the ABA. The students I messaged joined a new group I started. They are all willing to state that I was not maliciously messaging them or harassing them in any way. I have never before "spammed" anyone, and I did not know I was doing what Facebook considers to be over-messaging until it was too late. However, no one I sent a message to would say I was harassing them, and they are willing to support me.

This was the first time I have EVER been accused of anything on Facebook, and I believe I deserve a second chance after being a good and supportive user for so long. I have never before been accused of this in all the time I have been a Facebook user. I have always carefully followed Facebook's rules. I would never, ever maliciously message or "spam" anyone. Facebook's automated system misinterpreted me, and I am being punished for it.

I apologized for violating Facebook's terms of use. I did not realize I was doing so at the time, and when I received a warning it was too late. I have been an honest and rule following Facebook user for a long, long time now, and I have never purposely broken any rules.

I really appreciate ANY help or advice anyone can give here. I know that Facebook has a valid / legit case against a majority of people it disables, but there ARE innocent people who fall victim to FB's automated algorithm disable system because their actions and movies are completely misinterpreted. I am proof of it, and I am NOT exaggerating or misstating my case. I swear to god.

My emails to disabled@facebook.com, info@facebook.com, appeals @facebook.com and warnings@Facebook.com have all gone unanswered. I do not know where to turn now.

    Anyone have any advice?

Facebook lawyers sent me a cease and desist letter (regarding the FacebookEconomy.com domain name) Last reply on May 05, 2008 04:58.

Facebook's lawyers sent me a cease and desist letter regarding several domain names I own: FacebookEconomy.com, Mini-Feed.com, and Faceosphere.com.
    Here's a link to the letter: http://u.phoreo.com/zg.pdf
I've offered to redirect ("point") the domains to any site that they choose, and I have taken down any auction listings I had the names up on, but Facebook's lawyers won't budge, they want to take possesion of my domain names.
I miss the good old days, when FB used to disable my account.

Facebook staging area (sandbox) for app development

Building Facebook apps can be dodgy business since there's no way to test without affecting your public profile. Of course, we can hack around this by creating test profiles, but even better would be a staging area for testing without being exposed to the outside world at all.

Better metrics for Facebook applications! Last reply on December 04, 2007 20:13.

Right now, the only metric for "success" for a Facebook app is number of installs. I'd love to see some other ways to understand which apps Facebook customers actually value -- like, say, time spent using the app per session, or over a period of time.

Anybody else have any ideas about what would make for a good Facebook app metric?
