Can I disable messaging entirely and encourage contacts to send e-mail messages?

There are too many social networks with their own 'inboxes' to check. I know e-mail is so last century, but at least it comes to me rather than the other way around.

At the very least, Facebook should adopt the practice of sending the actual message via e-mail, rather than a ridiculous e-mail notification merely telling me I have a message.

I know it's all about the pageview, but requiring a dozen keystrokes and clicks when you could avoid them altogether is ridiculous.
