DEMAND Facebook give us approval on tagged photos and comments before sending them to newsfeed and or posting them to our profile
TAGGED PHOTOS... can someone please contact facebook about getting approval on tagged photos and comments? Apparently They don't feel the need to answer me. I recently had a car accident "announced" in a newsfeed to all my friends, coworkers and family via tagged photos. It was a major violation of my privacy. And there are minors on this site. It seems that a preapproval should already be in place. DISGUSTING.

As a user of Facebook, there is no way to pre approve photo comments, wall comments, and tagged photos. To make matters worse, no matter what we do in our security settings... facebook will in fact send newsfeeds to all of your friends notifying them of the above before we even have a chance to see it ourselves. FYI facebook, just because someone clicks that they have permission or the right to distribute the picture they are about to upload.. doesn't mean they do. And once it's tagged, the notifications are sent to all your friends and the damage is done. Why is it that so many of your users have complained about this and nothing is being done about it? This does have lawsuit written all over it. But we assume there is some fine print somewhere in one of their pages that announces facebook is not liable. So hey, what do they care if people's lives are being ruined by it? Sign this petition asking Facebook to respect our wishes and give us approval of these things before they send them out in Newsfeeds. We should be able to control what information is being broadcasted to all the people on our pages. NO ONE has the right to post pictures of you and invite everyone on your page to come and look at it without your permission or approval first. It is a major violation of your privacy. Even if Facebook doesn't seem to view it as such.

Inappropriate?Agreed. It's appauling. With more than 26,000 friends around the globe, this is a major privacy issue for me. For this very reason alone I don't favour Facebook right now.

Inappropriate?I agree. What is wrong. This surely gives a lot of joy to friends

Inappropriate?I know the feeling, and share a similar situation with you. My father was in horrific car accident, ultimately causing instant death, now this was single car auto accident, and not by any means a drunk driving accident. Un-similar to you an on scene volunteer fire fighter, took pictures and post them on facebook, "stating this is why you shouldn't drink and drive". Well prior a police investigation being done. Question is who is monitoring these website. Also, post were pictures after the car was take to the police impound lot. Absolutely disgusting!!!!!

Inappropriate?Eric, that link was decent until it started going on Conspiracy theory:
Person X was the venture capitalist -- they worked in a company that Person Y worked for -- Person Y previously worked for a company that was part of a company that worked for Department of Defense. Therefore Facebook is evil.
Seriously flawed logic. I've worked for the Department of Defense, Department of Revenue, and even the McDonald's. Now does this mean that my goal is to insinuate drugs into burger patties to turn people into fiscally responsible soldiers?
The "facebook" policies are almost boilerplate standard, they don't want to be sued for people coming in, posting images, and getting mad that other people saw them. While they do share information with universities, they don't share identifiable information -- but here, if you are so concerned: Write your own Facebook, with your own policies.
"FYI facebook, just because someone clicks that they have permission or the right to distribute the picture they are about to upload.. doesn't mean they do"
Lisa: This is about law, by marking that they do the person is agreeing that they are responsible for the rights to distribute. That keeps me from suing facebook unless they negligently fail to remove it. You simply contact facebook and have it removed.
If they aren't your photos, then ou should not have the right to remove my photos, or prevent me from uploading my photos with a tag in them. This goes back to the principles of our country, you cannot stop the flow of truthful information. If I wish to share information you can't stop me anymore than you can stop me from picking up the phone and calling all my friends and family to tell them you got into an accident.
Jeremy has a valid example where he could have easily sued the person posting the images and won in court for libel, which is a written form of defamation and was spreading falsities. If it's not spreading false statements then you need to suck it up, as sad as you are.
"NO ONE has the right to post pictures of you and invite everyone on your page to come and look at it without your permission or approval first"
You obviously don't understand how facebook works. They aren't inviting everyone on YOUR page to come look at it. They do notify all of the people on THEIR friend's list.
They also, legally, do not need your permission to distribute a picture of you unless they are doing so for commercial gains or in the interest of breaking the law. The best bet is for you to stand up to your friends and say to all of them: PLEASE DON'T DISTRIBUTE MY PICTURES.
That means having courage.
