Facebook Account Deleted for messaging friends & family
Facebook disabled my account today. I wrote in and they told me that their decision is final.
Here is the brief story...when I started with Facebook, I found a ton of old friends and I sent out mass friend invites, which Facebook warned me about. I didn't see anything wrong with trying to reconnect with old friends.
Next, I started to play a Facebook application called, "Mafia Wars." And I hooked up with many of the groups (around 2 dozen) and I got another warning about that one. Than, the most recent, I sent out a request to my friends and family (the message said the same thing, because it was the same news I wanted to convey to them all). Facebook once again intervened and told me to stop sending so many messages out (as if that was a crime to send messages to your friends and family). Than, they just decided to disable my account permanently.
I have spent countless number of hours uploading, tagging, reconnecting with friends, etc. I cannot even begin to tell you at what a loss this comes to me. I feel very angry, frustrated, and above all else...I want to seek revenge. I read countless number of other individuals going through the same problem and it is really sad. Facebook has said that their site is not about sending many messages to friends and family. They also say its not about chatting. My questions is, if it is not about chatting or sending messages, than why offer the service. Of course, those that do spam have hurt the rest of us and Facebook is utterly merciless and relentless and hurting people. They have no idea how much someone puts into their account and they come along and disabled it for good. That is really sad. My wife is still on Facebook, along with most of my friends. Sure, I can establish another account, under a different e-mail address, but I really do not want to. I am really discouraged, because I put a lot of sweat, time, and effort into my account for all my friends. What is wrong with that?

Inappropriate?I started getting this warning also. Facebook is total garbage. They approve an app that they know requires you to add mafia in order to really play the game yet they disable accounts for playing essentially one of their sanctioned games. Seems ridiculous to me. Not to mention the people we add are requesting us to add them which is even more fucked up. That is not spam. That is people requesting to hook up with other people to play a community game which isnt this the point of this site. Meet with others. I guess im going back to myspace.

Inappropriate? You really hit the nail on the head Kevin! Facebook is a community web site for chatting, connecting to friends, sharing common things, participating in applications. The members are penalize, if they participate in this stuff too much. Heaven forbid, we should really want to spend time on Facebook. The way Facebook is acting, you would think they wanted to get rid of their members. Rather interesting. Sure, there are those spammers out there, but it all comes down to give and take.
I was level 235 on mafia wars! I spent around 4-5 hours a day on Facebook. And Facebook repays me by disabling my account and forever keeping me from access to it.
Fact #1: My heart is broken towards Facebook. I devoted a lot of time to putting my Facebook account together (a ton of pictures, level 235 on Mafia Wars, connected to around 65 old friends from high school, Jr. High, etc.), put a whole bunch of flare, etc. etc. etc.
Fact #2: I will stand idle why my account lays disabled. I am currently disabled with a lot of time on my hands. I will devote the rest of my life trying to make sure I go after Facebook in every which way possible.
Fact #3: I am going to alert the media about how Facebook is handling its members. I am sure those in the media have experienced similar situations with their account and someone will publish the story. I will be sending out letters shortly to all that I can. I have around 1000 stamps and ready to push forward. I am an excellent writer too, so my story will be great!
Fact #4: I have a ton of ideas that I can spend forever doing and I am going to put them into practice.
Fact #5: Most people who have had their Facebook disabled and barred for life, agree with this message, but do not have the means, money, or time to put something like this forward. I do however and I am taking what Facebook did to me very personal.

Inappropriate?Robert,
Mass mailing a plea to vote for some breadstick thing using a list of emails gleened from a mafia wars mailing list, in my opinion, is spamming.
I don't think your motives are as innocent as you make them seem. -

Inappropriate? So, anyone who questions your not so pure motives is a facebook employee. You seem to be a bit delusional. I'm someone who got spammed by you and wanted to let you know that I didn't appreciate it.
I was not one of your facebook friends yet received email from you requesting me to vote for something or another.
So I found you and am letting you know how I feel.
Good luck on your jihad. -
Inappropriate? As soon as you provide your e-mail address in a forum, you are fair game! Here is my suggestion to you...if you don't want people to have your e-mail, than don't give it out! And if you did give your e-mail out on some forum, in a way, that would be spam as well...think about it. You are soliciting your e-mail in en effort to get people to join your stupid little mafia.
Why don't you buzz away B unhappy!
-
Inappropriate? So you are saying that you did mass email a group of people that were not your facebook friends?
Hmm... can you say spammer?
BzzzzBzzzz -

Inappropriate? You did not provide your e-mail address B...I thought so...time for you to shut up!
-
Inappropriate? It's up there ^. spam away...
Does this sound familiar:
I have been removed from the group and falsely accused of something that I have done. I was never given a chance to defend myself, but found guilty, labeled, and removed. I am very passionate about standing on the principal of the matter, not backing down, and ready to do everything and anything to come against the group and the company if I have to.
How did your 2007 jihad go? -
Inappropriate? So what...you can do a search on my e-mail address in a search engine...bravo. Its funny, how you wish to remain anonymous...staying in the shadows of your fear, scared to make your presence known.
-
Inappropriate?Shut up B he has a valid point and we want the same result our accounts back so we can play our applications and get our stuff back -
Is there any other way to acess the games seems to me that zynga games have been hit hard and i want to get back into my vamp wars and yoville -
Inappropriate?Romany,
Send me your e-mail address and I will added to the list of contacts, once I finalize me research and plan of action. I am trying all the connections I know and see what kind of results I achieve. I have sent letters out to Facebook's lawyers, I have sent a letter out to the CEO of Zynga and I am gathering any and all information I have.
I am not going to keep anything to myself (that's not how I am)...I will share all. I am also working on putting together a web site against Facebook, which will be backed with a lot of links of where to complain to, articles against Facebook, employee lists, the whole nine yards.
These things take some time, but I am on top of it.

Inappropriate?Someone help me please- My account has been disabled almost one month now I think for adding too many friends too quickly- I STILL have gotten no human explanation- I was emailing all the usual routes and have even called with no luck- Is there anything I can do and why cant they just let me know one way or the other- So frustrating to have to wait a month with no response- Any suggestions- My email acct: mboehler2@siumed.edu
sad I’m frustrated about waiting a month now with no reponse
-
Inappropriate?Dear Mike,
I am sorry what Facebook did do you. You are by far not alone, against Facebook's harsh and severe robots in place to stop "so-called" spammers. A web site is in the works which will detail everyone you can complain to, to get some results. It will have names, addresses, e-mail accounts, etc. etc. etc.

Inappropriate?Hi
Rob my email is romanyburnett@hotmail.com.
I did get a reply from facebook they said that there is no account linked to my email which is my bloody problem to start with my account has gone along with all my facebook applications and the money i spent on them.
grrrrrrr -
Inappropriate?I have read this thread with interest and am wondering at what point Facebook considers your messages to be spam. I have been linking up with new friends in order to play many of the game applications, Mafia wars being one of them, each person I make friends with receives an email containing links to all the games I play. So at what point will Facebook consider what I am sending out to be spam?
This is of great concern to me as I too have put a lot into my account and would be devastated to lose it.
I’m worried
-
Inappropriate? The honest truth is, you are taking a risk playing Mafia Wars. I was at level 235, before Facebook decided to pull the plug on me, because I was sending many requests out. Facebook does not mention how many requests you can or cannot send out...its all a gamble!
It really sucks...so use at your own risk. I am coming at Facebook with a vengeance!
-
Inappropriate?I have a total of 749 Friends right now (Family, friends, and then the most of it is Mafia War Friends) When do you think I will get a warning???
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Well the thing is they dont even send a warning one minute i was there went away for an hour came back and everything was gone.
But all i can suggest is once u add them to ya games delte them of ya friends list thereis messages going out everytime u do something.
And the stupid thing is there all facebook notifications they themselves are creating the mass amounts of notices.
I have also noticed that you can easily report people for spam so if a few of those peeps pissed of with the same messages hit report abuse you can be in shit. -
See 2 things why I keep friends on my list (Mafia Wars) I like doing the job requests they post (where you can get extra Experience and money) And the 2nd reason is because I love seeing all the quizzes, top 5, ect... things people post so I can do it. I don't want to sit there and try to find all those cool apps. -
Inappropriate?Making an email address public does not make any SPAM sent to that email address legal. Email addresses are public in many places on the internet (websites, forums, etc), but publicly displaying your email address does not mean that spammers can send to it without breaking the law.
Obviously email addresses are going to be public in many places because it is still a way a large majority of people communicate. If you were using email addresses / accounts from a Mafia Wars account and sending them unsolicited messages that have nothing to do with Mafia Wars, or you sent out messages in mass - it can, and should, be considered spamming.
I want to believe that Facebook's actions are harsh, however, you yourself admit receiving two warnings already from facebook. Whether you like Facebook's unseen/spam rules or not - once they've warned you - you really have no recourse for saying 'you didn't know'. If you receive a warning - stop. It really is that simple. It may not be enjoyable, and the rules may need modifying at some point, however you did not heed the warnings facebook provided so they really should have no qualms keeping your account disabled. If you aren't sure why you got the first warning - the logical, and best, option would be to contact facebook to find out why you received the warning.
In fact, your title is misleading. Your account was not deleted/disabled because you messaged friends and family. Your account was deleted/disabled because you continued to perform spam-like (even if not intentional) actions and you ignored warnings provided by Facebook twice. -
