Here's the update: Facebook purposefully obscures this process to make it harder for spammers to game their system. Unfortunately, they're creating a Kafkaesque nightmare for the thousands of innocents who get caught in their web. As a first step in demystifying this process I've posted a list of reasons your account may have been shut down:
http://getsatisfaction.com/facebook/t...
There's a note under that post describing the standard resolution path, which today is limited to sending emails into their customer support black hole and hoping for the best. We're hoping that with your help we can get them to reconsider this cold, authoritarian process that considers users guilty until proven innocent (as Glenda Kwek of the Sydney Morning Herald put it in her poston this issue).
Stay tuned.
I’m still working on it

Update: We've reached out to three different senior contacts within the organization, and are waiting to hear back. We *will* get an answer even if we have to drive down to their offices. Stay tuned.

Yeah Thor... God Bless, But Is There Any Way I Can Get Back My Profile. My Network Was Very Important For My Job, I'm Into Entertainment and I Have A Very Important Event Coming Up. Facebook Is My Only Salvation Right Now, Please Help!!!. Thanks.. -
Hy Thor..I'm a little bit angry...My account was disabled with no mentioned reason, and I find it very rood . I was really polite, and I asked them to answer tome WHAT HAVE I DONE to deserve the loss of my account. AND I'm waiting for two days and nothing. ALL that I got was automatic message that they 'd got my inquiry and that they should be back to me soon. And they didn't back..I didn't tell them one single rood word , I was really polite and all that I want are answers. I'm not addicted to Facebook and I can live without it..I was using it only when I was board or when I wanted to be in touch with people that I can't always be with because I'm just a stundent and I live away from home. This was a great opportunity to speak to them..It's less expensive than to call them or send messages. And I said to them that they can disable my profile FOREVER, but only if I really deserve that, cause I WILL not pay for sins that I'm NOT TO BLAME !!! I could open my new account, but I WILL NOT, because I Will rather be without Facebook, then to be something that I'm not...They will lose all their customers unless they change their behavior...My friend are all dissappointed because they didn't even know what Facebook can do. I'm very sad, because I really don't deserve that behavior...What kind of people work there ??? I really wanna know....:-( -
was sending emails to friends on facebook but unaware of the terms, I created a group for charity love everyone group and put logo like save the children with a click., I was inviting people to joined me in the group. I got a email from Facebook they disable my account I dont understand this. Is it permanently because it is very devastated I got valuable friends on there who I lost contacts with, can you help me sort this problem out I am assure this will not happen again. -

Inappropriate? Thanks so much Thor..I really appreciate it...What's more frustrating is that facebook doesn't have a phone number to contact..and the emails obviously go unanswered...Facebook is supposed to be a social networking site, for Pete's sake! Thanks so much Thor.

Inappropriate?Hi Thor, I'm wondering if you might be able to help me too. My account was disabled today and I can't understand why. I received the spam warning, but when I read the details, it said not to send the same message repeatedly, which I wasn't.
I received and responded to a lot of emails today from people asking for help and information. I can't imagine that's disallowed. I've sent three emails to facebook, but have only received auto-replies in return.
Everything I've ever posted is gone and on one the information groups I had posted hours and hours worth of work and people who are now looking for that information are completely puzzled and putting up posts asking what happened.
I can't imagine this is what facebook intended, but they keep themselves behind some kind of impermeable wall and there's no customer phone number. Even if they decide it was a good decision to punish me for helping people, can I at least have my posts back? This is the most counterintuitive result I could have ever imagined.
Thank you!!

Inappropriate?Hi Thor
The same thing happened to me. I received an email back from a customer service representative saying that I needed to use my legal first and last names in order to reactivate my account. I have replied the email and am waiting for a response.

Inappropriate?Thor, I think it's great that Satisfaction is being used in lieu of Facebook's own support channels -- this is basically what the point of Satisfaction should be -- but I wonder if it should be Satisfaction employees (such as yourself) acting as a kind of BBB or if Satisfaction should provide some mechanism for redress to the folks who are actually experiencing the issue.
I commend your offer to "drive down to their offices" and think that in these circumstances, with our contacts, we could of course actually do that... but as that doesn't scale, I'm wondering if Satisfaction could offer tools that let people organize themselves to take action and get results rather than having Satisfaction bear that burden.
I'm not saying that you're in the wrong this time or that you shouldn't follow up with Facebook (I'll do the same) but that there seems to be a second-order opportunity for Satisfaction to offer tools to enable people to get satisfaction for themselves without having to resort to pitchforks.
I’m pondering

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
Your efforts are definitely very helpful to people experiencing login problems on facebook. I have the same problem here for almost 30 hours. When I try tologin it says "Incorrect email/password combination." And when I try to reset my password I get the message "Unregistered Email The email address you entered has not been registered." I have written about this problem to info@facebook.com, privacy@facebook.com, and login@facebook.com several timesupto now but didnot get nothing but auto-replies. I can still get notifications to the mail address I use to log in and I can even see my profile forma friend's account. What should I do? I have thought of setting up a new account with the same mail address but I fear that this may override my existing profile. And also it would be a great waste of time to inform all my friends on my list about this and to re-add them to this new account. By the way,I did not get any warning or notification from facebook. My account just seem not to function with no reason. Thank you very much in advance for your help. -
Inappropriate?I responded to 6 job postings and Facebook disabled my account because they said I responded to to many jobs in to short of a time
FACE BOOK IS A JOKE and this really angers me because not only does it effect me but my whole family and all my friends I think face book is is run by arrogance or stupidity or both.
I have emailed the every day since its been 5 days now and they haven't responded other than an automated message saying that they were looking into it.
NOT HAPPY WITH FACEBOOK!!
info@eyeaxis.com if any one has any ideas about how to get results from a bunch of jerks
I’m angry and facebook is SAD!

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
The same thing happened to me over the weekend. I hadn't recieved any warning about anything on Facebook ever, very rarely posted messages, was only a member of one group, used my full real name, email and birthdate, had a photo of myself with my son in my profile and haven't to my knowledge offended anybody on FB in any way, shape or form. Then on Sunday morning (Australian time) I try to log in and get the message that I've been 'disabled by an administrator'. I feel like I've been pronounced guilty without even being told the charge. I honestly don't get it. I emailed appeals@facebook.com but so far haven't heard anything back.
By the way, great site, keep up the good work.

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
The same thing happened to me 2 days ago. eyusifli~gmail.com.
I sent messages to my friends invited them to group i created and facebook warned me about spamming and I stopped.
Next day I replied one of my friends old message and BOOM, account disabled. -
Inappropriate?I've had a pretty encouraging email exchange with some of the Facebook team. They are hyper-aware of this as an inconvenience to people and said again that the email channel is the only way they can deal with this currently because of the security/privacy issues. My sense is that they're still a startup and they're figuring out how to cope with the enormous increase in usage while maintaining the high quality of the community. As they figure it out we need to keep banging on them to embrace openness wherever possible, because let's face it, it's often easier for companies to shutter up when the going gets tough.
I'll keep updating as I learn more.
I’m encouraged

Inappropriate?Hey all. I am having the same issue and am not sure why. I was using the approve human pets app on sunday. and on monday i am disabled. I just don't understand I have emailed them and will post if i get anything. I think this is getting a little bit stupid that a site will ban you and give no reasoning or give no warning. I didn't get any time of warning or anything. I will be emailing these people every 5 or so min untill i get a response or they block my email address becasue this is rediculous.
I’m Angered

Inappropriate?Hi All,
Just to let you know that I get a very nice email yesterday from Kyle at Facebook that informed me...
"This problem should now be resolved. If you're still having trouble
accessing your account, please let us know. I apologize for the delay
and any inconvenience."
That was after one email to appeals@facebook.com two days earlier. Still not sure what the issue was, but I'm back online and appreciate the way Facebook dealt with it. I hope everybody elses issues are dealt with in the same manner and with the same outcome.
Thanks for your help on this matter Thor,
And keep up the great work,
Mark
I’m as happy as a pig in whatever it is pigs live in.

Inappropriate?Hi there...I got a very nice email from Dominique from Facebook too...who let me know that this problem has been resolved.
This was after several emails to appeals@facebook.com. I am back on facebook and I am really glad how professionally facebook dealt with my emails (My email was a very professional one too- not rude or curt).
I encourage people to write to appeals@facebook.com a few times (i write them 4 times) and be patient..my account took a week to get back...
Thank you so much Thor,
Aaryan
I’m happy

Inappropriate?Good points Factoryjoe.
We thought about this a lot when first conceptualizing Satisfaction, specifically thinking about how to create a scalable system for user organization and action (when necessary). My thought is that each person should do whatever they can to provide good service for other users, and if Thor can get a meeting with Facebook then he should do it. This was the best method we could think of to jump start the community: be a model of the behavior that will make the community successful.
If Satisfaction is asking people to go out of their way to help others than the Satisfaction employees should do it too, even if it means spending a whole day on one user's issue. I think this fits with the Craigslist "give people a break" model or Zappos' policy of staying on the phone until the customer is happy. Basically you do the best you possibly can, and keep doing it until you actually can't do any more. Hopefully by then you've created so much good will with users that they'll return the favor.
I’m excited

Inappropriate?Do they even have the right to ask for personal information (like birth certificates or drivers licenses) if they question your identity? Because if they do, it seems like a supreme invasion of privacy.

Inappropriate?Dear Sir,
I only got a warning and after it my account has been disabled, and this is my first warning, I understand now that I misused the facebook website, but its a warning and you shouldn't deactivate my account forever, it was really an unintentional mistake, and if you had a look at my account you would know that I never misused it before, I just got appealed by people who had 145+ IQ.
I got more than 140 real friends on my account.
My account shouldn't be disabled for just 1 warning, I guess thats what the word "warning" means, I hereby ask you to re-enable my account.
Thank you.

Inappropriate?Hi Nookie,
You actually need to email your letter above to appeals@facebook.com. It may take a few days to hear back from them but it's sounding like most people hear back in a few days.
Good luck! -
Inappropriate?Thank you Amy, I did email them and I got an automated reply, I emailed disable@facebook.com and appeals@facebook.com.
I really need help on this one if they are not going to help me.
Should I email them many times as I saw someone here saying that they emailed them 4 times till they got a response?
Best Regards,
Amr Marghany -
Inappropriate?Yeah, I've noticed many people saying they've emailed several times. I guess it couldn't hurt. And then, unfortunately, I don't have any further advice than to encourage patience -- which I know is hard when you're anxious to get your account back. Keep us posted on what happens!
-
Inappropriate?I will, thanks Amy for your support, I will be patient :)
