Here's the update: Facebook purposefully obscures this process to make it harder for spammers to game their system. Unfortunately, they're creating a Kafkaesque nightmare for the thousands of innocents who get caught in their web. As a first step in demystifying this process I've posted a list of reasons your account may have been shut down:
http://getsatisfaction.com/facebook/t...
There's a note under that post describing the standard resolution path, which today is limited to sending emails into their customer support black hole and hoping for the best. We're hoping that with your help we can get them to reconsider this cold, authoritarian process that considers users guilty until proven innocent (as Glenda Kwek of the Sydney Morning Herald put it in her poston this issue).
Stay tuned.
I’m still working on it

Yeah Thor... God Bless, But Is There Any Way I Can Get Back My Profile. My Network Was Very Important For My Job, I'm Into Entertainment and I Have A Very Important Event Coming Up. Facebook Is My Only Salvation Right Now, Please Help!!!. Thanks.. -
Hy Thor..I'm a little bit angry...My account was disabled with no mentioned reason, and I find it very rood . I was really polite, and I asked them to answer tome WHAT HAVE I DONE to deserve the loss of my account. AND I'm waiting for two days and nothing. ALL that I got was automatic message that they 'd got my inquiry and that they should be back to me soon. And they didn't back..I didn't tell them one single rood word , I was really polite and all that I want are answers. I'm not addicted to Facebook and I can live without it..I was using it only when I was board or when I wanted to be in touch with people that I can't always be with because I'm just a stundent and I live away from home. This was a great opportunity to speak to them..It's less expensive than to call them or send messages.
And I said to them that they can disable my profile FOREVER, but only if I really deserve that, cause I WILL not pay for sins that I'm NOT TO BLAME !!!
I could open my new account, but I WILL NOT, because I Will rather be without Facebook, then to be something that I'm not...They will lose all their customers unless they change their behavior...My friend are all dissappointed because they didn't even know what Facebook can do.
I'm very sad, because I really don't deserve that behavior...What kind of people work there ??? I really wanna know....:-( -

hi mr Muller, my account was also disabled and i havent done anything wrong, they sent me an auto message sayin they will write to me soon, but i still have not recieved an answer. please help me -
Dear Mr.Thor,
This is to kindly inform you that I tried to log in my account ( khalil.khatib@hotmail.com) today but I surprised by a message from your side stating that my account has been disabled by an administrator !!!!
As I understood from your policy, Faceboook limits the number of times a user can send the same message or make the same post and that my facebook account has been disabled for taking repeated actions that were construed as spam.
I tried to log onto my Facebook account this afternoon, i found my account has been disabled by an administrator.
If you observe that messages that I tried to share with my facebook existing friends is very deep and clean message talking about life and its content is consisting of some quotes because I understand that I can share these ideas in life with my existing friends and with the new friends that I desire to add / communicate.Your efforts are definitely very helpful to people experiencing login problems on facebookI've sent three emails to facebook, but have only received auto-replies in return.
only got a warning and after it my account has been disabled, and this is my first warning, I understand now that I misused the facebook website, but its a warning and you shouldn't deactivate my account forever, it was really an unintentional mistake, and if you had a look at my account you would know that I never misused it before especially that I am shring the ideas with my friends and all what I have sent to them are quotes about life..This is the objective of face I believe ..I am commuincating with my pld friends and know new friends.
Now , I understand your admin policy and I kindly ask to re-activate my account again. I really enjoyed in having very nice friends through facebook and in communicating with old friends in university and even school and I kindly ask to re-consider my request and to give me the chance again to access my facebook.
Please give the chance again and I promise that I will follow your policy as it is and that I will never use any feature wrong despite that I used it for the good purpose by sending very nice quotes to my existing and new friends. -
I am really pissed i WENT ON THIS MORNING AND SAYS MY ACCOUNT IS DISABLED BECAUSE OF SPAM STUFF THAT I HAVE BEEN SENDING. WHAT IS THAT ABOUT? Hi Thor.
My account was deactivated over a week ago. When I asked why, I got an email saying that I have too many friends with fake accounts, and because of that they are terminating MY account. I asked them to reconsider and this was their answer-
Hi Adena,
Unfortunately, we will not be able to reactivate your account after repeated requests to remove fake profiles from your account. We apologize for the inconvenience, but this decision is final.
Thanks,
Clark

This is what I wrote back a few days ago and never got a response.
Clark hi,
This seems very unfair to me.
I have no way to know who is real and who is not, and i am the one being punished and penalized for other people having fake accounts.
As a peace worker it is important for me to accept ANYONE that requests my friendship without bias. Isn't that what Facebook is about? Connecting between people? Remember, even behind fake accounts there are real people.
As the Director of the Jerusalem International YMCA Peace Preschool i ask you to reconsider. Facebook got me in touch with peace people from all over the world, even places that might be thought as enemy countries, and that’s what my work is all about. If that fake animal account has a human behind it in Iraq or Syria, shouldn’t that be the bottom line? Striving for peace?
Thank you for listening.
Adena.
Do you have any ideas of what else I can do?? I am so very upset.
Thank you so much,
Adena. -

Somehow I accidentally created a new Facebook account and since it was linked with my .edu e-mail address, I had received an e-mail saying that since someone (that someone being me) had registered and confirmed that e-mail address, that it would be disabled from my old account. I don't want this new account and I just want to be able to access my old Facebook account (if not from my .edu address, then from any address! I just want my old account back : [ soo many memories on it that I don't want to lose). So my new account has 2 e-mails linked to it and I guess my old account doesn't have any e-mail addresses linked to it, so i have no other way of logging on to it.
Could you please, please, please, please help me?! You'd be a life saver. I've e-mailed them a handful of times, and nothing back.
Thank you sooo much! -

My account says today that it is disabled. The only warning I had was a week ago when I tried to add a friend and that feature was blocked. Tried again three days later to add a friend, then again three days later, and kept getting the message that I was misusing the feature (by adding friends to a social site???). Anyway, I assume that is why they disabled my account. No further warnings, no messages from Facebook explaining anything. Absolutely no help from them at all. I would gladly kiss them goodbye but I have quite a community of friends on their site that I don't want to lose contact with. Wow, I absolutely hate Facebook! -
I found out today, that I have had my account disabled. The only thing more ridiculous than it being disabled is the reason why. I posted on my friends wall. No innapropriate messages or content mind you, just a talk with a friend. NOTHING in their TOS says I can't talk to my friends, NOTHING in their TOS says I can't post on my friends walls. I have yet to receive anything close to an intelligent reason as to why I can't post on my friends walls. All I get is, "you post too fast." Well, what are the limits or rates at which we are allowed to post I ask, "Well, we can't tell you that, but you exceeded it." What kind of policy is this exactly? They can't expect people to abide by the usage rules, when they refuse to make those rules available. The following is all the info given to me:
"Facebook does not allow users to register with fake names, to impersonate any person or entity, or to falsely state or otherwise misrepresent themselves or their affiliations."
Sorry, didn't happen
"We do not allow users to send unsolicited or harassing messages to people they don’t know, and we remove posts that advertise a product, service, website, or opportunity."
No, also didn't happen
"Our Code of Conduct outlines the types of content we do not allow on the site. This includes any obscene, pornographic, or sexually explicit photos, as well as any photos that depict graphic violence. We also remove content, photo or written, that threatens, intimidates, harasses, or brings unwanted attention or embarrassment to an individual or group of people."
Still no, haven't broken any of the rules that they have made available to the public.
So how exactly am I guilty of breaking their terms? You know, the terms they won't tell anybody. I guess now, I have more time to devote to letting people know what kind of site they're REALLY running here. This is poor treatment for someone who was apparently dumb enough to endorse their site to my customers and users. What do you want to bet that is going to stop? I deal with hundreds of people daily, and unknown thousands online, and I think they would be interested in knowing how they will be treated if they make the mistake of using that site. The blogosphere isn't exactly accepting of this kind of draconian behavior.
The ball is in their court, it's up to them where I go from here. If they do what's right, I'll chalk it up to an administrative error, and move on. If they decide that crapping on me for using that site is the route they should take, than they should be aware that I will be spending the time I used to spend on their site, spreading the word about how they treat their loyal users.

This so Frustrating! My account got disabled for absolutely none of the reasons that you list. It is a personal account that I use to keep in touch with my spiritual community. It is my lifeline in many ways and during the middle of sending an email, it got disabled? HELP!!!! -
I'm wondering?...
Does facebook make money off of how many NEW accounts are opened? And/or lose money if accounts are closed by the user? (I know for a while, may have changed now, users were not able to close their account) Maybe, if facebook disables and deletes accounts that are allegedly violating the terms of services, they may not get a monetary penalty for an account being closed. And when that person opens a new account they get more money?
I also had my facebook disabled earlier this week...I'm hella pissed off...I've emailed them a few times and haven't received a human response yet...Like many of you, the important issue is that I'm losing YEARS of memories...I started facebook in my college years when it first started...So all end of college memories and post-college memories via posts, messages, pictures, friends/acquaintances may be gone forever!...I could easily sign up for a new facebook account...Having an account is not the issue; the content on my original account is the real issue...
Not only that, but, I haven't done anything wrong...Or, maybe I 'thought' wasn't wrong...Was it because I didn't post my birthyear?...It was not required back in the day...Was it because I posted birthday comments on whoever's birthday it was that day?...And yes, I did this everday...
Anyways, I've contacted them with no success of fixing the situation... -

Inappropriate?Hi Thor, I'm wondering if you might be able to help me too. My account was disabled today and I can't understand why. I received the spam warning, but when I read the details, it said not to send the same message repeatedly, which I wasn't.
I received and responded to a lot of emails today from people asking for help and information. I can't imagine that's disallowed. I've sent three emails to facebook, but have only received auto-replies in return.
Everything I've ever posted is gone and on one the information groups I had posted hours and hours worth of work and people who are now looking for that information are completely puzzled and putting up posts asking what happened.
I can't imagine this is what facebook intended, but they keep themselves behind some kind of impermeable wall and there's no customer phone number. Even if they decide it was a good decision to punish me for helping people, can I at least have my posts back? This is the most counterintuitive result I could have ever imagined.
Thank you!!

Inappropriate?Thor, I think it's great that Satisfaction is being used in lieu of Facebook's own support channels -- this is basically what the point of Satisfaction should be -- but I wonder if it should be Satisfaction employees (such as yourself) acting as a kind of BBB or if Satisfaction should provide some mechanism for redress to the folks who are actually experiencing the issue.
I commend your offer to "drive down to their offices" and think that in these circumstances, with our contacts, we could of course actually do that... but as that doesn't scale, I'm wondering if Satisfaction could offer tools that let people organize themselves to take action and get results rather than having Satisfaction bear that burden.
I'm not saying that you're in the wrong this time or that you shouldn't follow up with Facebook (I'll do the same) but that there seems to be a second-order opportunity for Satisfaction to offer tools to enable people to get satisfaction for themselves without having to resort to pitchforks.
I’m pondering

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
Your efforts are definitely very helpful to people experiencing login problems on facebook. I have the same problem here for almost 30 hours. When I try tologin it says "Incorrect email/password combination." And when I try to reset my password I get the message "Unregistered Email The email address you entered has not been registered." I have written about this problem to info@facebook.com, privacy@facebook.com, and login@facebook.com several timesupto now but didnot get nothing but auto-replies. I can still get notifications to the mail address I use to log in and I can even see my profile forma friend's account. What should I do? I have thought of setting up a new account with the same mail address but I fear that this may override my existing profile. And also it would be a great waste of time to inform all my friends on my list about this and to re-add them to this new account. By the way,I did not get any warning or notification from facebook. My account just seem not to function with no reason. Thank you very much in advance for your help. -
Inappropriate?I responded to 6 job postings and Facebook disabled my account because they said I responded to to many jobs in to short of a time
FACE BOOK IS A JOKE and this really angers me because not only does it effect me but my whole family and all my friends I think face book is is run by arrogance or stupidity or both.

NOT HAPPY WITH FACEBOOK!!

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
The same thing happened to me over the weekend. I hadn't recieved any warning about anything on Facebook ever, very rarely posted messages, was only a member of one group, used my full real name, email and birthdate, had a photo of myself with my son in my profile and haven't to my knowledge offended anybody on FB in any way, shape or form. Then on Sunday morning (Australian time) I try to log in and get the message that I've been 'disabled by an administrator'. I feel like I've been pronounced guilty without even being told the charge. I honestly don't get it. I emailed appeals@facebook.com but so far haven't heard anything back.
By the way, great site, keep up the good work.

Inappropriate?Hi Thor,
The same thing happened to me 2 days ago. eyusifli~gmail.com.
I sent messages to my friends invited them to group i created and facebook warned me about spamming and I stopped.
Next day I replied one of my friends old message and BOOM, account disabled. -
Inappropriate?I've had a pretty encouraging email exchange with some of the Facebook team. They are hyper-aware of this as an inconvenience to people and said again that the email channel is the only way they can deal with this currently because of the security/privacy issues. My sense is that they're still a startup and they're figuring out how to cope with the enormous increase in usage while maintaining the high quality of the community. As they figure it out we need to keep banging on them to embrace openness wherever possible, because let's face it, it's often easier for companies to shutter up when the going gets tough.
I'll keep updating as I learn more.
I’m encouraged

hey mr Muller, they reactivated my account after i wrote to appeals+nr83181@facebook.com, i pleaded my case and was reactivated after 1 day -

Inappropriate?Hey all. I am having the same issue and am not sure why. I was using the approve human pets app on sunday. and on monday i am disabled. I just don't understand I have emailed them and will post if i get anything. I think this is getting a little bit stupid that a site will ban you and give no reasoning or give no warning. I didn't get any time of warning or anything. I will be emailing these people every 5 or so min untill i get a response or they block my email address becasue this is rediculous.

Just to let you know that I get a very nice email yesterday from Kyle at Facebook that informed me...
"This problem should now be resolved. If you're still having trouble
accessing your account, please let us know. I apologize for the delay
and any inconvenience."
That was after one email to appeals@facebook.com two days earlier. Still not sure what the issue was, but I'm back online and appreciate the way Facebook dealt with it. I hope everybody elses issues are dealt with in the same manner and with the same outcome.
Thanks for your help on this matter Thor,
And keep up the great work,
Mark

Thank you so much Thor,

Inappropriate?Good points Factoryjoe.
We thought about this a lot when first conceptualizing Satisfaction, specifically thinking about how to create a scalable system for user organization and action (when necessary). My thought is that each person should do whatever they can to provide good service for other users, and if Thor can get a meeting with Facebook then he should do it. This was the best method we could think of to jump start the community: be a model of the behavior that will make the community successful.
If Satisfaction is asking people to go out of their way to help others than the Satisfaction employees should do it too, even if it means spending a whole day on one user's issue. I think this fits with the Craigslist "give people a break" model or Zappos' policy of staying on the phone until the customer is happy. Basically you do the best you possibly can, and keep doing it until you actually can't do any more. Hopefully by then you've created so much good will with users that they'll return the favor.
I’m excited

I only got a warning and after it my account has been disabled, and this is my first warning, I understand now that I misused the facebook website, but its a warning and you shouldn't deactivate my account forever, it was really an unintentional mistake, and if you had a look at my account you would know that I never misused it before, I just got appealed by people who had 145+ IQ.
I got more than 140 real friends on my account.
My account shouldn't be disabled for just 1 warning, I guess thats what the word "warning" means, I hereby ask you to re-enable my account.
Thank you.

Inappropriate?Hi Nookie,
You actually need to email your letter above to appeals@facebook.com. It may take a few days to hear back from them but it's sounding like most people hear back in a few days.
Good luck! -
Inappropriate?Thank you Amy, I did email them and I got an automated reply, I emailed disable@facebook.com and appeals@facebook.com.
I really need help on this one if they are not going to help me.
Should I email them many times as I saw someone here saying that they emailed them 4 times till they got a response?
Best Regards,
Amr Marghany -
Inappropriate?Yeah, I've noticed many people saying they've emailed several times. I guess it couldn't hurt. And then, unfortunately, I don't have any further advice than to encourage patience -- which I know is hard when you're anxious to get your account back. Keep us posted on what happens!
-
Inappropriate?I will, thanks Amy for your support, I will be patient :)

Inappropriate?Hi everyone,
I think this message board is really useful so thanks to everyone who's been helping out here.
I would just like to share my experience with a disabled account her:
I got Facebook a couple of months ago and was basically using it to just post messages on my friends walls about how their days had been, to superpoke occassionally, and to join about 20 groups or so.
I was told that my account was disabled a week ago. I didn't know why this was so however I figured out that I had lied about my age in order that I could join No Network since my high school didn't have a network at the time. About two weeks ago, I requested to join my high school network (it was newly made) but was told I couldn't as I said I was over the age of 18. Therefore I asked for my age to be changed so that this could happen.
I emailed a very polite and concise email to Facebook explaining all of this and how I had made a mistake, was sorry I lied, and hoped to have my Facebook back and that I trusted they would be able to do so.
Facebook emailed me back and said that in order for me to have my account back, I would need to send them an email from my high school email address proving I did go to that high school. I think this is a little too extreme although I did what they told me.
In the end, I did get my Facebook account back after several emails to Aubrey and Brett from Facebook and a lot of patience. This process took a week all in all. My advice to you would just to send them an email explaining everything you have to say and just wait patiently for their reply. Even if you get an auto-reply, they will still read your email provided it's written appropriately.
I hope this will encourage everyone who has their account disabled. Just to let you know, when your account is disabled, your picture becomes a question mark and no-one can access your profile. That's roughly how bad it gets. Thank you everyone!
I’m amused

I This is the email i wrote to them and sent it both disable and appeal Facebook email address :
To who it may concern,
I tried to log onto my Facebook account this afternoon, i found my account has been disabled by an administrator.
I received no warning by Facebook in my e-mail explaining why my account was disabled. Therefore i would like to know the reason why my account has been disabled.
If i have violated any of Facebook’s Terms of Use or Code of Conducts, could you please inform me the nature of this violation and so i may clear up any matter that i have may have caused an inconvenience to.
As a result would it possible to enable my account (if it has not been deleted) once this matter has been settled.
I apologised for any problems and inconveniences caused.
Yours Sincerely,
Just have to wait and see what reply i get now and hope they haven't shut down or banned my account =(

Inappropriate? Can anyone clarify whether "disabled" means that they have deleted my entire account? Do they plan on re-enabling it or is everything gone? Facebook never responded to my notes , so I have no idea.
-
Inappropriate? As a general rule FB doesn't seem to delete accounts (even when users want them deleted: http://getsatisfaction.com/facebook/t...). Whether or not they'll turn back on your account is another question. Persistence and humility seems to be your best bet. Use appeals@facebook.com.
-
Inappropriate?Hi all!
My account was disabled 4 days ago! I emailed them asking WHY. They told me its because apparantly i violated some rule...Funny because i dont even know which rule it was!
I emailed them again and I got this: its pretty similar to the first email yet different wording?
Hi Peymon, Your account has been disabled for persistent misuse of the site. You received a number of warnings for attacking individuals and groups, as well as exceeding our feature limits on multiple occasions, all of which violate our Terms of Use. After receiving the maximum number of warnings, your account has been disabled. This decision is final.

Ouch! This wasnt my first time! I agree but the other time someone had reported me apparently for commenting on a group wall which i do not recall at allllll. so that time resulted in my facebook account being closed on my BIRTHDAY!
I have no idea about this time! I never got any warning or anything NEVER. I was sitting here then i got email telling me my account has been disabled and that I should email disabled@facebook.com....
P.S. I have emailed them 3 more times. Yet no reply since 2 days ago. I shall try: appeals@facebook.com now!

Inappropriate?Hi all, my FB account has been disabled on Saturday, I got warnings to slow down with the messages, but I WASN'T SPAMMING, JUST REPLYING TO MY FRENDS, and it was never THE SAME MESSAGE!
Then suddenly without warning I just found it impossible to log in, my friend sent me sms asking "What happened to your Facebook account, u deleted it?" I got so nervous as now I'm away from home and on Facebook i was keeping in touch with my friends back home :( Now they don't even know what happened to me, did i delete them, just disappeared or ???
Anyway I've sent email to disabled@facebook.com and this morning I got reply:
"Hi Margherita,

What else can I do? Did I really do something so wrong to be disabled??

It's amazing how so many people are in this unnecessary situation. I am an ardent Facebook user, Facebook containing not only so many of my emotional and sentimental memories built up over the past 13 months or so, but having so many connections with friends from all over the world (almost 3,000 Facebook friends here). I love Facebook and I always want the best for the site, always complimenting how wonderful it is. Ironically enough, I even once said to a friend "If Facebook suspends or deletes my account, I'm gonna cry so much."
Indeed, the day has come. For a reason I simply cannot identify. Like many of you here, the dreaded "Your account has been disabled by an administrator" page hit me.
Here is a short series of emails I've exchanged with Bella from Facebook (whose only reply is exactly the same as what others have received as seen from the thread above):
> From: sarah (xxxxxx@hotmail.com)

Dear people at Facebook,
A few hours ago, I was sent the following email:
Hello,
You uploaded a photo album that violated our Terms of use, and this album has been removed. Among other things, photos containing nudity, drug use, or other obscene content are not allowed, nor are photos that attack an individual or group. Continued misuse of Facebook's features could result in your account being disabled.
If you have any questions or concerns, you can visit our FAQ page at http://www.facebook.com/help.php?page...
The Facebook Team
I would have thought that such an email would be a warning, and not an immediate removal of my account. I now cannot sign into my account and have been told that it has been disabled.
My name on Facebook is Sarah K. Foxx. I am an ardent user of your site, and have almost 3,000 friends on my Facebook list. I have loved and used Facebook with a passion everyday, being more than glad to receive an average of 300 emails daily from Facebook. I would consider myself a considerate user, uploading pictures of myself which are in no way presenting any nudity or explicit content, but tasteful covered up and clothed shots. I have also recently, out of consideration for the site and it's terms and conditions, reported a user for falsely using a celebrity's pictures, claiming the pictures are of herself.
I am currently extremely distressed, and am absolutely unable to understand why I have been disabled without any prior warning. I hope my entire account has not be deleted together with more than a year's worth of picture uploads and friends etc that I have built up with my Facebook account.
I hope that this situation can be clarified very soon. I have always had high hopes and trust in Facebook, I hope this time you guys will not let me down, and let my long-established account resume functioning.
Regards,
Sarah

Facebook,
Thank you for reviewing my situation. I am however not clear in what ways I have violated Facebook's Terms of Use:
"Please note that nudity, drug use, or other graphic content is not allowed on the site. Additionally, we do not allow users to send threatening, sexually explicit, or harassing messages. Unsolicited messages will also not be tolerated."
I have not contributed any nudity, drug use, or graphic content to Facebook. Neither have I ever sent any threatening, sexually explicit, harassing, or unsolicited messages to any one for any reason. I am currently extremely confused as to what terms I have unknowingly yet so seriously violated, to the extent that my account has been disabled without any prior warning. The disabling of my account especially strikes me as a contradiction from the first email message I received from Facebook yesterday entitled "Facebook Warning" saying that I have uploaded a picture which violates the terms and that my account would be disabled if I continue to do so. Immediately after which, I could no longer log into my account.
Please understand that I have had built up more than a year's worth of connection and relationships with so many wonderful people on my Facebook account. It is also the only way in which I can contact many of them. My Facebook account contains so many emotional and sentimental memories for me, especially many of the messages in my Inbox. I have never intended to violate any of Facebook's Terms of Use, and would have had at least expected a prior warning instead of an immediate, uninformed suspension of my account. I am here to work with you, not against you, Facebook. I would appreciate it very greatly if we could clarify this situation together.
Regards,
Sarah
Thor, and everyone here who may have had similar experiences, I urge for you to give me some advice as to why I may be in this situation. I certainly hope my Facebook account has not been entirely deleted and would be most willing to cooperate with any circumstances or conditions for me to get my account back as soon as possible!
Thank you so much for reading my post.
Sarah.
I’m sad, confused, frustrated.

Inappropriate?Hi Sarah,
as u may seen my post before, after the response from "Bella" and sent 5 or even more emails I still have no reply... 2 days now...
I so understand you and I was being patient, but seems like no one really cares!! Blocking the accounts without warning and then you can't even explain and get a proper response from them!
I'm not giving up and i will be sending them emails until someone finally will read and bring my account back! I suggest you do the same and keep me updated if something changes.
Good luck.
ps. as far as i know your account for now has not been deleted nor anything removed, so if u manage to get to them then you can have it all back.
Margherita
I’m sad
-
Inappropriate?Margherita,
Thanks so much for your reply, It's nice to know I'm not alone in this horrid situation. It is definitely incomprehensible why Facebook would disable accounts without any prior notice. Shocked, distressed, angry, upset cannot even describe how I feel- I have so many connections with so many people on Facebook to whom I speak to and message everyday- if this connection should be somehow lost, I would be most devastated!
I'll never give up this case as well, I'm not sure if I should keep resending emails as much as I want to for fear of pissing them off and having them delete my account entirely! :-O
Sigh... I wish you the best of luck too in your situation Margherita, and will keep my situation updated on this board.
Sarah
I’m beyond upset.

Inappropriate? My Facebook account has been permanently disabled - it was disabled in August for "sending too many emails"....then it was reinstated when I emailed and appealed...then NOTHING was wrong till now - and then I got the "you are sending too many emails" message again - and POOF - I'm gone - I'm off.
I requested to know why - and got that since they warned me once in August, I will be permanently disabled and not allowed any access to anything on my site...
I emailed back to request their "policy" that states HOW MANY EMAILS is too much (if you had a number, wouldn't that help?) - my friends emailed Facebook as well - even stating they KNOW they send more emails than me and have never been warned about emailing.
Numerous people have suggested it is because of my email address having "goddess" in it that it was automatically flagged when I signed on and they assume I'm a spammer - which I told them in August I was NOT.
I also requested them to send me the numbers of how many emails I was supposedly sending daily - and they have not responded.
I am FURIOUS that a "social utility" site has told me I send too many emails when I KNOW there are thousands of people who send far more emails daily than I do.
This is especially hurtful as I started a group for our 20th high school reunion, and people are confused as to where the hell I went...
Is there any recourse? I seriously am going to check out their Best Business Practices in the State Facebook is in...I requested information that under the Freedom of Information Act I am entitled to receive - and NOTHING - no response...
HELP! What can I do??? I don't understand because I KNOW I'm not sending that many emails...why are they targeting me?
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Tammy, Noah, and everyone else in this horrid situation,
I deeply sympathise with all of you, considering that I am experiencing the same circumstance and Facebook has yet to reply my email sent 1.5 days ago. I don't know what else to say right now besides that fact that we can't give up. I myself have Facebook as my only platform in contacting many people, and am extremely distressed as these friends would have no idea where Sarah K. Foxx has disappeared to.
Let's keep each other updated on our situation. And hopefully our sincerity, perseverance, and INNOCENCE will pay off!
Best of luck to all,
Sarah
I’m increasingly distressed, upset, and angered!

Inappropriate? It has been three days since my facebook "account has been disabled for misuse of the site." I would appreciate it if anyone would have any advice or response to this situation. All I did was send potential friend requests and then I got permanently disabled! Should we who have been mistreated by facebook create our own petition or website to show our dissatisfaction toward their behavior to their loyal customers?
I would just like to know all of your ideas and thoughts on how we as a collective can go forward and show them that this type of behavior will not be tolerated. I believe we are from a country that believes in "due process" and lives by the motto "innocent until proven guilty." Since when have we as a country and as an international trend setter implore our society, educational institutions and corporations, such as facebook, to use “Gestapo” tactics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gestapo) to coerce and force their culture upon others.
This is the most un-American ideology that we are supporting. This is similar to what China is doing to the Olympic Free Press creating profiles on over 20,000 reporters and denying certain reporters that have Official Olympic Credentials to (http://www.contracostatimes.com/natio...) report on the Olympics in China. We are supposed to be a society that progresses not digresses in the way we think, behave and live our lives. If facebook represents evolution and progress of our society I am scared to see what the future holds for us and future generations. Facebook is supporting a culture similar to what we as Americans vehemently protested against that is eerily similar to the Salaam Witch Trials depicted in the book the “The Scarlet Letter” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Scar...) where people would be accused by the fellow Americans of phantom crimes.
PLEASE WAKE UP AND SHOW FACEBOOK THIS BEHAVIOR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!
I wish you all goodwill and happiness,

i never received a warning before and it has been about 18 hours with no response except for 1 auto response. Should I e-mail them again, and if so to which address. I'm very disappointed.
great site you've made me more confident that I will get an answer and that I'm not the only one with this problem
P.S. I've also see that people have gotten success with only 1 email and with sending a bunch of them which way would work better?

Inappropriate? At least you guys are getting some sort of response. I've been waiting since Tuesday for some sort or response or action. Still nothing at all from Facebook. I've sent an email to each of those address. I haven't even received an automated message, nothing at all. I haven't even gotten a warning or anything from Facebook either. Just randomly I was disabled. I am very disappointed in all this, this is far from professional. I mean at least let me know you've gotten my emails.

Inappropriate?Francis,
As an ardent user of Facebook, filled with only constant praises towards it, I am deeply disappointed too at the number of us who are getting disabled for reasons we aren't even aware of.

Good luck everyone and lets try to keep our hopes up :-/

Inappropriate?I was disabled sometime last night (Friday). I have emailed 3 times to disabled@facebook.com and once to appeals@facebook.com. My profile is gone. I checked my hubby's profile and I'm no longer there. Does that mean that my account was deleted? I didn't even get a warning.
I know what I did to get me disabled....I am very active on my networks' wall...which is constantly being invaded by spammers...so we decided to take action and email the spammers the Terms of Use. I'm pretty sure that the spammers reported us for spamming (when I say "we", it was a friend of mine and myself emailing the spammers and his profile is gone now too). I have stuff on my profile that I can never get back. Pictures and video of my kids that I was stupid enough not to back up. I'm so upset right now...as I was a little addicted to FB.

Inappropriate?I just emailed facebook about 30 minutes ago and wanted to inform you all that I did. I am imploring them to listen to their loyal customer base which I think is represented here. Also it is always nice to communicate with people who understand.
Good luck to you all with your individual cases with regards to facebook
Noah
Dear Facebook Staff,
I have written an email appealing the permanent disabling of my facebook website and I have not gotten any responses since 12/5/2007. My email is noahpatricktorres@hotmail.com that the site is registered on. While facebook is a great product the department of customer service needs to be honed and your people need to listen to their customers. Why does such extreme methods such as Beacon have to happen before facebook realizes what they are doing is abusing their customers. Disabling and permanently banding people for unjust reasons is just not acceptable. There are many individuals that feel the same way as me as you can visit the websites below to this testament:
http://getsatisfaction.com/facebook/t...
http://getsatisfaction.com/facebook/t...
While I am still an advocate for facebook I believe you as a company must really begin to listen to your customers. You are representing a version of American corporate culture that is unique but will that same type of tactics be successful in the international markets? This is a question you have to ask yourself. Honestly I am to the point where the important thing is not whether you reinstate me or not. It is that you do not continue to treat unjustly your loyal customer base. Regardless I will be ok with whatever decision you decide on but consider this letter a wake up call and also free consulting to how you can improve your company and structure of customer service to people that do not mean any harm to you. They just want questions answered and not abused for rules and regulations that are being enforced that may not be fair or just.
I wish you well Facebook and I hope that these words do not fall on deaf ears.

Inappropriate?Hey, everyone, this is to the people who got their FB account disabled just like me. We are most likely not going to get our accounts back. Mine has been disabled for 3 weeks now. I have sent them numerous emails and they only reply with a general message with the only difference being the name of the customer service representative. I think FB doesn't give a crap about us people. They have no contact information, never can be reached and just don't care.

Inappropriate?I was disabled for less than 24 hours....I'm back on now....here's the email I received from facebook:
Hi Heather, We do not allow users to send threatening, sexually explicit, or harassing messages to others. Unsolicited messages will also not be tolerated. Unfortunately, for technical and security reasons, we are unable to provide further details regarding your warning. In order to prevent this from happening in the future, please refrain from sending messages of this kind. For more information on conduct prohibited by Facebook, please read our Terms of Use, which can be accessed by clicking on the "terms" link at the bottom of any Facebook page. You should be able to access your account at this time.

Now I didn't do any of the things I was accused of, but I'm not going to fight it...I'm just happy to be able to access my account again! -
Inappropriate? This is the exactly same message I got, from the exact same representative. The thing is I haven't even posted anything in days before I got disabled. I am not sure how on earth it is even possible they can accuse me of such things. To tell you the truth I responded asking for clarification because really, it makes no sense to me. If I am to be warned I would rather it be used on something I actually did and not something I haven't done.
Facebook has a long ways to go when it comes to costumer support. Generic messages are really not the way to go. You can clearly tell the rep doesn't want to look into the case and just seems to post the same message to everyone and hopes they shut up.
I am glad I have access to my account again, but I am disappointed that I could not get a reason as to why I was disabled, rather I get a warning and a generic message. But if I ever happen to slip up by accident the next time I will be gone for good. I really do not agree with that.
I’m indifferent

Inappropriate?someone needs to start a lawsuit...im serious. I will back it up 100%

I have been saying this since I was stalked, no thanks to them; there are enough potential co-plaintiffs just on this site to cause a massive, massive stir.... -
Wow, I wish someone would start a class action lawsuit against Facebook. You could get them on numerous counts...slander for one!
They disabled my account after telling me "This warning is an error and you can ignore it without consequence. Sorry for any inconvenience." I have been emailing them for 2 weeks about stupid messages that appeared when I posted things or PM'd my friends. Then I got disabled. The admins at facebook have waaaaay too much power. -
Inappropriate?oh my god this is such bullshit. I'm so sick of emailing them, it's not even funny. i was "kicked off" the 30th of November, and now, nine or so days later I still have not gotten a reply to any of those emails. This is even preventing my from doing my final group project for two different classes. I don't know what else i can do.
-
Inappropriate?I am with you 100%. But how do we get started and should we make a website so that we can use it as a resource center to combat facebook from a grassroots level. The petition and protest with Regards to Beacon worked maybe we need to do the same with how they are treating their customer base. Please if there are any lawyers or paralegals out there listening to this please advice us. Also if there is anyone that can put up a website that is strictly for either or a law suit or petition or both against facebook for its disabling rules and regulations please someone volunteer and put up that website and post it here please. Let's start organizing ourselves and show facebook that this hubris behavior will no loner be tolerated by the American public and international community. Anyone needing to reach me directly can do so at the email below.
THANK YOU ALL AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT MY FELLOW AMERICANS AND INTERNATIONAL FRIENDS,

i think we should all try calling them -
tried calling - just an answerphone message -
Inappropriate?I am with you 100% on that too...I am in my finals during my graduate school studies and what facebook is doing is completely unfair and un-American. Instead of me writing my four final papers that are due I am here worrying about this silly facebook site. It is really ridiculous when we think about it but they are creating situations that results in needless pain and suffering because they cut us completely off from our academic, personal and professional networks that we have created in facebook with no notice. We have to unite and fight against this injustice. We have to break the silence...alone we will fall but together we can truly stand tall and show facebook this is not right.
I’m Happy to Unite
-
Inappropriate?Calling them won't solve your case. It will just annoy them more. If you really want to do something about the poor support call BBB and let them know what Facebook is doing. Being with BBB is a privilege, one that can easily be revoked if you fail to satisfy their requirements, especially regarding customer support.
-
Inappropriate?I am sorry what is BBB?
-
Inappropriate?better business bureau. i am filing a report with them now, actually.
-
Inappropriate? That is great. I will do the same after my finals on December 21st. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated
-
Inappropriate? All those trying to blame facebook for not being able to fulfill academic expectations, have a look at their terms. The part where it specifies they cannot be held liable if the service becomes unavailable. There is no way you can pose legal action on them for such a thing. Customer support is not something you can sue a company for either.
Really the only good thing you can do is place complaints at the BBB for this sort of thing. Unless they fix it, their reputation remains tainted, everything is logged with the BBB. -
Inappropriate?no, im not blaming them for not being able to do my project, im complaining about customer service for one, and that they are withholding any information regarding what violations we have made against their "terms of use" and/or why we are not warned before our accounts are disabled. its ridiculous.
-
Inappropriate?just an informed customer.
-
Inappropriate?First I think you should try to use the reply system here. It is getting quite confusing. Just press reply below the person you are replying to.
Although I do agree with what you are saying, have a look at what I posted above. A lot of times warnings are sent out, but in the age of spam, facebook's emails don't actually make it to your inbox. I have found that to be an issue in a lot of tests I have made. Hopefully the letter I sent them will take that into consideration as well. -
Inappropriate?Wow that is wonderful Francis Pelland. Well it looks like we have our potential legal advisor on this issue. Your insight on this situation is very helpful. It is just unfortunate it has to get to this point where Facebook has gotten so big they do not really understand how to merge their own information to make better decisions. Also I want you all to know that you all are making me feel a lot better with regards to this matter. The most upsetting thing is having no one to talk to in cases of crisis. While this may not be considered big in the big picture it is defiantly an annoyance to the networks and friends we have developed that has taken time, energy and effort to maintain and create. I just do not feel that facebook is justified to completely erase people off their network regardless of reasons much less for adding friends. But thank you for I hate to say, for the "Beacon" of hope. Ha-ha...get it Beacon: P Have a great day to you all...You are all so wonderful and this site is awesome. You have all made me smile again.
I’m happy
-
Inappropriate?Oddly enough that is another issue. They cannot remove anything from their servers. While being disabled it is simply changing one field in the database. Their platform doesn't allow them to delete information, without it taking a LONG time. And even then it can't be done either simply due to the complexity. That is why when you close your account manually and start it up again, you will notice that nothing is lost.
This also causes legal complications. If Facebook allowed you to delete information and suddenly you were to be arrested for lets say child pornography, the judges will ask Facebook for all information on you. Allowing a delete function can cause a lot of complications, that is why it is a simple flagging system that just hides the information, but in reality it is still on their databases, forever. They can use it any way they want, whether it would be to advertise, improve on their services or simply for legal reasons. That way they won't be held liable for anything if ever something comes back to them.
I am really not sure what happened in your case, but I suggest you keep trying to talk to them, you will end up finding a customer rep which is down to earth and may break out of the usual responses. If you aren't happy, ask to be forwarded to a manager who could better answer your questions. It will take longer for such replies, but they will be well worth it and they are allowed to listen to opinions you have on their support. -
Inappropriate?Well that is refreshing and at the same time disturbing to know that they are just holding on to our information indefinitely. I do not whether to be happy or cautious or both. But thanks.
-
Inappropriate? After nearly a week this was the email that was sent to me that is practically an exact copy of what they already sent to me. I will be seeking to speak to a manger next as Francis has suggested. Good luck with your cases guys it looks like we will all need it.

Hi Noah, Your account has been disabled for misuse of the site. It is a violation of Facebook's Terms of Use to harass users on the site, whether through unsolicited messages, friend requests, pokes or other features. We will not be able to reactivate your account for any reason. This decision is final. Thanks for your understanding, PatrickUser OperationsFacebook

-
Inappropriate? How do we speak to a manager, we can't I have sent 10 or more emails, all the same like Mr. Torres, its ridiculous, despicable, its like they don't care. Thor Muller is the guy to talk to, he has helped me create an appeal, but I still don't have my account back.
-
Inappropriate?I filed acomplaint with the BBB lets all file complaints so FB will have to do something. We need to tarnish their name, so people will notice.
-
File a complaint with the State Attorney General's office over privacy issues. I filed a complaint with the State Attorney General's office because they disabled my account, right after approving an ad for a praying group that's free mind you, they took my credit card info and charged me and then disabled my account. They won't reply to any emails, so I filed a complaint with The State Attorney General's office over that and privacy issues. You can't take my credit card info and then disable my account and I know nothing of what you do with my info.
File a complaint with the State Attorney General, that's what your state taxes you're paying, are for. Use the resources available to you and make Facebook be accountable to the law. -

Inappropriate? Here we go again guys...Well I finally got a message from a manager and guess what. No different and almost the exact carbon copy of what was sent before. Now they are saying that users are complaining about messages which I find ridiculous because recently the only messages I send is to my close network of friends. In the beginning I will admit that I did send a few messages to people that looked interesting but then I stopped that as I became familiar with their policies. Bottom line is that they permanently disabled me because I sent friend requests which are ridiculous. I will be continuing this matter through BBB and hopefully as a collective here at this site we can start to form a collective campaign that will bring some justice to the individuals that they have treated unfairly.

Hi Noah,
I am a manager from Facebook's User Operations department and your situation has been escalated to me for further investigation. After reviewing your account, I have decided that your profile will remain disabled from the site.
You received multiple warnings over the past several months regarding your activity on the site. Facebook has limits in place which restrict the rate at which you can use certain features on the site. You received warnings because you were approaching these limits when sending friend requests and messages to other users on the site.
Your account was finally disabled because we received reports from other users about the unsolicited form messages you were sending. After reviewing your account, as well as the prior warnings you received, we removed your profile from the site.
One of Facebook's main priorities is the comfort and safety of our users. Since you violated our Terms of Use by engaging in behavior other users considered harassing in nature, you will not be able to regain access to your account for any reason.
Thanks for your understanding,
Alyssa

They are ridiculing us, at the end of every message is BS, "Thanks for understanding" I don't know what FB is smokin but I DON'T UNDERSTAND. Lets keep this forum topic going.

Inappropriate? This has been sent to me today, its so strange, it is almost more than a month ago, but I finally got a positive reply, This was it
Hi Amr,
I am a manager from Facebook's User Operations
department and your situation has been escalated to me
for further investigation.
One of Facebook's main priorities is the comfort and
safety of our users. Since you violated our Terms of Use
by engaging in behavior other users reported as harassing
in nature, your account was removed from the site.
After further investigation of your account, we have
decided your profile can be reactivated. However, our
records indicate that you have since created a new
account. Facebook only permits users to maintain one
profile on the site, so please let me know whether you
would like to regain access to your original profile, or
continue using your new one. I apologize for any
confusion regarding the removal of your account and for
the delay in rectifying the situation.
Thanks for contacting Facebook,

Inappropriate?hey Amr, what address did u get the reply from? disabled@facebook.com ?? to me 2 weeks and still the same automatic answer, i'm sending emails again now....
-
Inappropriate?I hate these cookie cutter responses to an issue that is completely their fault and blatantly silly. Here is my email to FB sent 11/21/07:
Subj: My account has been wrongly disabled.
I would like to know what specifically my misuse of the site was. I
have an inkling, but I am unsure as to why my account was disabled in
the first place.
I do not regularly check my email, so I missed the warning email.
However, I did recieve a "warning" of sorts citing my misuse of the
search function. I dismissed it, considering it to be a simple glitch
on the website. However, I then found my account to be disabled the
next day. It was quite disconcerting to put it in polite terms.
All I had done on the one day I had recieved warnings that I could see
was browse my school network for students I knew. I have a fast
internet connection, and apparently I was clicking to the next page of
schoolmates too quickly. Whether the system considered me to be a
spammer or some other malpractitioner is unknown to me. What I do know
however is that my account was wrongfully terminated. I would simply
like to ask that you restore it, as I had no motive to do harm.
Thanks in advance for your support,
-------------------
The response was almost exactly the same as Nookie's and apparently everyone else's. I agree with all you guys; this needs to stop.
I’m disgruntled
-
Inappropriate?Man, you guys are getting your accounts back at least
-
Inappropriate? The address was "Alyssa from Facebook (appeals-comment@facebook.com)"
But I am telling you, I waited more than a month to get this response from a manager. -
Inappropriate?Actually now I want to keep both accounts :S I am already active in this new one, and it is all their mistake :S
I’m confused
-
Inappropriate?Ok! I have had it with this crap. I just got a bull Shi* message from some senior bum official at Fb and this is what they had to say
Hi Tom,
I am a senior member of the User Operations team at Facebook and your
situation has been escalated to me for further investigation.
Your account was disabled because we received reports from other users
about sexually explicit messages being sent from your profile. After
reviewing the content of the report, we removed your profile from the
site.
Facebook has a zero tolerance policy regarding sexually explicit
content on the site. Users who upload pornographic content or solicit sexual
favors from other users on the site are immediately disabled. Since
you violated our Terms of Use by engaging in this type of behavior, you
will not be able to regain access to your account.
Thanks,
Candace

This is ridiculous, I want the freakin evidence now, this has gone too far. I want a law suit, isnt this defamation of my character. I have never had any sexually explicit material on my account. How dare they accuse me of this ludicrous accusation.
I’m pissed off
-
Inappropriate?I got my facebook disabled as well. They accused me of "spamming" just because I copy pasted one message about 3 times. People actually sending sexually harassing and offensive messages get a warning email. I GOT NONE. This is completely unfair. Check out my BBB complaint status
http://sanjose.ebindr.com/complaint/v...
I’m pissed off!
-
Inappropriate?Wow. I had no idea so many people were having issues with Facebook.
My account was disabled on Monday because it is linked to an email account that both my husband and I use. There is nothing at all in their Terms of Service, Additional Terms of Service or Code of Conduct that states such a thing is not allowed. Any suggestions?
--Ruth -
Inappropriate?Well yesterday i tried to log in and bang! "your account has been disabled by an administrator". I got a warning on facebook saying that i needed to be confirmed by someone in one of the networks i didn't belong to. I joined another one and was confirmed by people in it but when i tried to leave the previous one, it didn't work and now i'm disabled!
I've sent 2 polite e-mails to disabled@facebook.com and have just sent one to appeals@facebook.com.
I really hope they enable my account again because it is how i keep in touch with many people including my girlfriend who travelled. it's been 24 hours..no answers yet.
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate?Apparently, my account was disabled because I didn't get confirmed at my high school network. I didn't get confirmed because that's not the high school I attend. I tried to change it in my Preferences many times but I couldn't find a way to change it. My actual high school isn't in the list of high school networks (I'm from Mexico). I want my account back! i had a loooot of important stuff in it and many friends i could only conctact with facebook.... please help if you have any suggestions !
I’m frustrated
-
Inappropriate? So your advices is if you get blocked from Facebook for spamming then SPAM the appeals@facebook.com account HAHAH I like that logic.
I to was disabled after poking too many people.. it was unclear to me what the time period was or the regularity which caused the ban.
I thought it was about 20 people in a 24 hour period so I tried to stick below that.. then I accidentally went one over and they disabled me..:)
It certainly does not say in the terms of use that poking more than 20 people in a day is a violation of their usage policy.
So if you don't have time to write unique messages to all your friends.. or you want to write to people in an area where you are going to be moving to so you can make new friends.. be ware of the POKE Monster.
and for gods sake.. DON'T get into a poke war with someone...
the poke monster takes no prisoners. it just gobbles you up and spits you right back out again.
I’m slightly perturbed
