I can't get access to the facebook site

I can't access it either. I can access any other website except Facebook, and when I attempt it, I get a message telling me that Internet Explorer has to be shut down.

It sounds like your browser is actually crashing when you try to access Facebook. If you're using IE6, I'd recommend upgrading to IE7, or downloading Firefox. To update your browser to IE7, please click on the link below:

I Have the Exact same problem,whearas I can access ANY other website exept for facebook!!....I've also tried it via Firefox and Opera as well as IE 7!!? I've also ,very quickly disable my Firewall to see whether it was that but still no joy!!! I don't know what else to try!
The message I get from ALL browsers that I've tried with is "can't find the server at www.facebook.com."

When I try from my laptop from same location its ok!!?

I have the same problem. I can log into facebook for around 5 minutes, then when I click on some pages, I get the message "can't find the server at www.facebook.com." I need to refresh the page about 10 times and eventually the page appears. It must be something on my laptop as I've tried from my desktop on the same network and I don't have the issue. I've checked all my firewalls and browser settings (happens with both IE and Firefox) but I still keep getting the problem. It's really annoying, so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd really like to hear them! :)

I don't even get to first base. Both Internet explorer 7 and firefox 2.0 timeout. I have triple checked security settings, checked the various files in spybot and adaware to see if the facebook site is mentioned. I have not checked the firewall (standard windows one). My kids come home & want to log onto thier pages and get most frustrated. I tried one of those anonymiser sites and got thru but they are painful with all the ads etc. Help!

I have the same issue but I've figured out that it doesn't work because it constantly repeats a loop of going to facebook.com/select_network.php and facebook.com/upgradeaccount.php

The two of my computers can't get around it and their only similarity is that they use the same router.

Suggestions?

i have been on facebook all day today and this just started happening tonight. i am so addicted to this site and i am jonesin over here! what in the world is wrong? this has never been an issue before.

I have the same freakin' problem and I'm using a mac. I have tried Safari and Firefox, then I also tried on my pc with IE and nothing works. Every single other website is fine, but facebook.com doesnt even load. This is dumb, because how can you complain to facebook and let them know about the problem if you can't even get on the site!

i tooo hav the same problem when i type www.facebook.com the page shows "THE PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" CHECK NETWORK SETTINGS but i checked more than 20 times nut the same pro blem plzzzzzzzz help me yaaar

My firefox gave me this message when I tried to load my profile. Other things like photos and applications can be accessed: -

"The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address
in a way that will never complete.

Any ideas?

megbie: It might make sense to create a new topic. We might be able to get it more visibility in the system if it's a new topic and not added on to this particular Facebook problem.

Hi, I have the same problem, the website gets stuck before even loading anything and waits endlessly for "static.ak.facebook"... tried Firefox IE and tried changing firewall settings, cookies and cache, but it just happened overnight, not after I changed any settings. it seems that the problem is not from the browsers but from above, somewhere...

tip: To be able to access my account anyway (its limited but enough!) try http://m.facebook.com/ which is teh mobile gateway.

till it resolves itself...

I'm so relieved to know I'm not the only one with this problem! I can access any site except for facebook.com. It allows me to enter my name and my password, but then it won't load. It keeps acting like it's trying to, but nothing happens. It's so frustrating!! I can log-in fine at home, but it's a pain to do it there since I only have dial-up. Could someone please help us all?!!

I've gradually been able to access less and less of the site over the last 4 or 5 days, now I can't access it at all! Its only on my desktop, its fine on my bro's laptop and we're on the same router. Its not only facebook though its the same with hotmail.com, I'm not sure if this is due to the same thing but when I load hotmail its just a blank page and it says 'Done' on the bottom left side of the screen. With facebook its a case of forever loading. What the hell couid it be !!?!?!

I've sort of found a 'solution' to the problem but maybe because I'm lucky, we have desktop anywhere like most universities, which means I can access university computers anywhere so once desktop anywhere is loaded I can access the internet through it and facebook and hotmail are fine. Not really a solution as such but its letting me access them so can't complain.

hmmmm, also same problem for three weeks. very annoying. also tried multiple setting changings also, no joy.
no joy when i use explorer either.
all quite strange.

oh yeah, problems first started with texas hold'em not working - giving me a 'port 6996' or something error for a few days before the whole thing packed in. The last thing i did was add the fake 'profile watcher' application before complete failure.

any ideas!?

I am also having the same problem. I can occasionally get to the login page, but once i try to login it just waits endlessly at 'static.ak.facebook.com'. It started with random pages timing out, but now it has progressed to complete unavailability. I haven't been able to access facebook on my personal pc for weeks. But downstairs on my girlfriend's laptop there are no problems. I have no idea what is wrong. I'll be watching this thread to see if someone comes up with a solution.

Same here. No matter which browser I use on my personal PC (Safari, IE, or Firefox), I cannot get into my account after I enter my user id and password. I am able to login using my computer at work, but not at home.
I have found a way though to get logged in to facebook using the mobile route. It gives limited info about your account, but at least it allows me to login. The link is:

But once there, look at the bottom of that page, where it asks if you are having problems logging in, there is a hyperlink to log in using HTTP. You must click on the HTTP log in link and then enter your user id and password from there. This will log you in, but as I say, this is not the full access to your account; only the limited mobile information.

Hope this helps some of you as well as frustrated as I am. I'll be checking back here also for a possible fix. Oh, I've also sent in feedback/help into facebook. I got an automated response that they received my request. I'll await a response and will post it once received.
